    How to repair/ replace the rubber intake tube connecting the air filter to engine, for the Honda Odyssey. This is a common problem for old Honda's. The intake tube is rubber; and when it gets too stiff sometimes it will crack, break, tear, rip, split, etc.

    Great video. Thanks for taking the time. For anyone trying this easy repair, I suggest removing the air filter box lid. This makes it much easier to put the hose on the box lid side, and then the whole thing slips back onto the engine side.

    This was very helpful. Thank you for making this video. I don't fancy myself anywhere near knowledgeable about cars but I can't afford the high prices my mechanic charges for simple jobs. I've come to the conclusion I need to learn to do some simple maintenance and repair on my own. I found getting the old part out super easy once I was able to unplug the sensor (it takes hand strength I don't have, but getting the new part in super hard. The new part is harder and less flexible so it took some elbow grease but I got it done! Knowing and seeing the step by steps before hand made the whole process less scary and less frustrating. So thank you again!

    Thanks so much for this! We got it done in no time, thanks to this. -- Ours looked almost identical to yours, right down to the duct tape sealing the leak. Now to see if that makes the "check engine" light go off. The Honda dealership wanted $750 to replace the O2 sensors. I'm hoping the $30 replacement solves the problem.

    I’m pretty proud of myself finding the reason my emissions light was on, a cracked air intake hose and got the part, ($50, was that reasonable?) It took me almost 3 hours to install. Not the 5 minute you tube demo! Still, not bad for 63 year old lady, with no car knowledge or mechanical aptitude or decent tools. My 98 Honda accord v-6 has a canister that attaches to the bottom, I realized after cutting the broken hose in half,getting it off and reconnecting everything that I should have attatched the hole in the bottom of it first, it was really difficult getting the rubber over the opening of the plastic canister and screwing on the metal clamp., but I didn’t want to undo it all and start over.. I was feeling so confident I thought I would change the air filter, but the screws to the air filter box are stuck, rusted in and strip as I try to turn them. Any thoughts on how to remove them? And my emissions light remained on and the car is still hesitant to start, which, before it always started right up. Still, I appreciate the knowledge, if I can do it, anyone can.I just hope that bottom part hold up well.

    Disconnected battery first. Throttle began to fluctuate erratically because the computer was out of control an hour later. Had to reset the computer about 4 times. Turn off the cruise control. All because I changed the cracked hose for a new one. Also dont drop the hose clamp while doing this.. never found it after it fell above the transmission labyrinth of gaps.

    Main reason these Break is because the engine mounts go bad allowing too much lift especially when it’s in reverse. So please check motor mounts as well if you have this problem. By the ways these Odessa’s has always had issues with mounts.

    Mine is currently being replaced at dealer. $15 for part, $26 for labour. What symptoms did you experience with the cracked tube? My 2013 civic jerked at 3000rpm.

    What is that tube called that you pulled out of the intake hose? And where can you get that metal clip that was used to fasten into the intake hose? (Name of the clip?)

    I have noticed that Honda has many small issues like this. Some have issues with a condenser, all of the callbacks, and the air intake hose gets cracked easily.

  • @petrucioci07

    Thats because when u take it in service the guys from there they just pull that thing hard. They dont care it gonna break it

      Service center guys are told to create extra work.
      $28 oil change income is not their target. "FREE" 28 point inspection cost users a lot more than needed.

    was that duct tape on the old hose?
    I want to temporarily do something for my cracked hose and wondering what that tape was on your old hose.

    • @blutsx
      @blutsx  9 лет назад

      I think duct tape is fine. I had some heating/ cooling tape in the garage and just used that. I think its fine for a couple days just so no dust and dirt gets sucked it. It's certainly better than leaving it open at least.

    • @KatsyFGA
      @KatsyFGA 9 лет назад

      nsaeturn815 I used duct tape on mine, when I discovered the crack the day before leaving on a 1,067-mile, 15-hours-in-one-day trip. The "check engine" light had already been coming on intermittently, and it was attributed to the O2 sensor or some other minor problem, so I felt okay with going. Worked fine -- in fact, the "check engine" light stayed off after my 2nd fuel-up, 2/3 of the way home, which made me feel a lot better.
