In the case of the shooting by the police, they were informed that these guys in the Range Rover were armed criminals, probably non Dutch speaking. In the Netherlands chasing armed criminals is a very rare situation. In this case the pursuit was going on for some time and these guys were not impressed by so many police cars. They already rammed one police car just before. Then the warning shots in the air are the last level before shooting aimed at the criminals. Then another difference with the US: if police starts shooting at a person, they are trained to shoot one or two times. Not the complete 12 rounds from 10 different officers. It's not shooting to kill like the US, but shooting to arrest.
the range rover was impounded by police and these guys were bold enough to break the entrance to the impound lot and take the range rover back what started the chase
fun fact, the dutch police uses bullets with zink, so when they miss, it shatters on a wall etc. meant to be less dangerous for the public. they also aim to stop, not to kill.
It is a monumental building, restored into an apartment building now. But in these situations they still call it the nick or prison. And every officer in Rotterdam knows where that is in this neighborhood.

The best coffee were served at the police stations in Rotterdam West, Centre, North, East and South. Drinking too much coffee is unhealthy people!
They were not firing at the car itself or at the driver. They got information that the driver may be armed. The shots they fired were slightly into the air, that's also why you see them move the gun up into the air when firing. The shots were warning shots.
@mavadelo Yes that is ALSO correct, but you can hear the them saying they fired warning shots in order to get the drivers attention and let him know that they should do what's being told.
Here in the Netherlands you can run from the police knowing you won't get shot in the back. But its still embarrassing to get caught and they do not care if you're comfortable after that
This is in Rotterdam, it's one of the largest harbors on the planet, they have tons of high quality drugs and other illegal stuff coming in every day and people come from all over Europe to buy them. They need very efficient police; it's surprising that they "only" had 24 people killed by cops in 2022, compared to 1,096 in the USA (of course, it's much smaller, but still, 13.7 for 10 million people in the NL vs. 33.1 in the USA). Which is relatively high compared to other European countries like Germany (1.3 per 10 million in 2018, or 0.5 in the UK). Amsterdam is very chill compared to Rotterdam, if you've been there on your last EU trip. If you check the Europol most wanted list, you'll find several people from the NL, even though some are naturalized immigrants (and from the nearby Belgium, Luxembourg etc.), so if the cops drew their guns immediately, maybe it was somebody wanted and dangerous.
Hi, you got the number of 24 persons killed by the police in 2022 on a Wikipedia page with police killings listed for almost all countries in the world. Now the Dutch police is more trigger happy than almost all other police forces in Europe, but that number 24 is totally incorrect. If you check the link on the Wikipedia page you find a website called "ControlAltDelete". This is not an objective website with numbers following the definition that goes for other countries. You can see on their page what qualifies for every case and then it becomes clear this is a complete different definition: it counts people who died (and in a few cases were killed) with police in any way connected. That could be a regular but deadly traffic accident involving a police car or motorcycle. So no shooting or chase, just a "normal" accident. Then several people died in a police car or at the police station after they were arrested or found in a very bad condition. The Netherlands is not known for regular police misconduct of drug addicts, criminals or people in distress in the police cars or at the station, although there are a few cases that earlier medical assistance could have maybe made a difference. Then there are several people who died when they were chased by the police because they made a deadly collision with another car, an object or because they drove into a canal. Tragic, but in my opinion you can not call that police killings. And then there was even a suicide case of a man wanted by the police who jumped of the roof because the police was at his front door. So in reality there were by my counting 4 people were killed by police in 2022. Two of them were shot, one was deliberated killed at the last moment by a police car when he tried to kill a hostage and one died of a heart attack after he was tasered.
In that first clip the driver was turning onto a highway in the opposite direction. As soon as he did that it got to a point where it's always going to end in a crash one way or another, no point in waiting for it to involve innocent other drivers.
Why did they pull their guns on the driver of the Land Rover? First of all the vehicle was stolen from the police station after it was conviscated after a crime. Secondly it rammed a police vehicle on purpose during the chase. Thirdly it was believed the suspect was armed and finally the police believed the driver tried to ram the police again after it backed up a little when he drove into an dead end street.
It's a smaller part of an clip on pro247. All the info is in Dutch, but it gives an much more detailed backstory ruclips.net/video/IsLnX5dbtXY/видео.html
the black range rover was stolen from a police impound lot. They were also highly likely to be armed and dangerous. Normally dutch police dont pull guns after a chace but this was a special one
that one at 9:00 is what they call btgv 'benaderings techniek gevaarlijke verdachte'. this translates to 'aproaching technique dangerous suspect', this is used only when the supect is known for aggresive behaviour, history of being armed, or when they exhibit extremely dangerous behavior. it is someone in the control room that decides when to do it, not the cops themselves. in this case the range rover appeared to try to drive into the cops, so they shot his car as a warning.
In the grand scheme of things this probably ends up being cheaper anyway, because those people fleeing from the police are definitely not as well trained as the police is! 😂
pit manoeuvres are rare here too, they avoid them after a few bad cases.. but if they go against traffic than it's easy choice; avoid them reaching the highway going wrong way at all costs. cops shot at the range rover when they thought he was backing up into them (he did not get convicted for that), got 2 yrs for stealing the car (from police impound lot after an armed robbery, thus was suspected to be armed, must be juicy pre-story) and for attempted manslaughter (crashing into a cop car)
1:38: they did the pit maneuver there because he was driving into oncoming traffic onto the off-ramp of a highway - if they had waited any longer it would've become far more dangerous to perform it. as for 9:50 - this vehicle was impounded after an armed robbery, the occupants had broken into a sealed off parking lot where the car was held and stole the vehicle, they had also totalled a police car that was blocking the road earlier in the chase, then at 8:05 they reversed, possibly trying to ram another police car as officers were trying to get out. Firearms are generally used when the suspect is likely to be dangerous (BTGV) - and this one definitely counts as that. As for the last clip - that's basically a SWAT raid, and they found a firearm in the residence.
To your question why they shot. 1:he had previously rammed a police vehicle already. 1: it would be my guess the driver was registered as known to have firearms or firearms related crimes.
Hello Joel. Very exciting chases, but it makes you wonder of the consequences, as justice and prison systems vary US to Europe. I commented before that my dad never carried a gun in thirty years in UK, but my first memory is of him on TV, kicking in the door at an armed siege for armed officers. I also commented how I rugby tackled a crashed car thief in my garden and handed him in to police. At first feeling proud,, I recalled a previous time I had chased someone trying to break into his car years back. He had told me off, for rushing in without knowing if the two would be thieves were armed. Best left to professional officers like these in the video.

In the video they said the suspect is dangerous and may be armed. That was a technique to approach individual like that. I don’t think they shot the suspect but rather the tires of the vehicle
At 0:50, the car was going on the offramp in opposite direction onto the highway; That's why they did the no-delay pit-move, as the risks of him going wrong direction on highway outweighs the risk of the move.
I love our cops ❤ Even being on the wrong side off the law (sadly due to stupid choices in my early 20s) I still have the upmost respect for our real life hero's 😊
It’s not like in America or Australia where the roads are wide and open it’s easy to get high speeds. The Netherlands and most of European cities have tight narrow streets so getting high speed pursuits aren’t going to happen. Great videos though 👍🏼
6:15 i know the story of the black range rover ! that car was impounded by police ! these guys were so bold that they broke open the entrance gate at the rotterdam police headquarters to take back the range rover , which started this chase
Rotterdam does have some issues with organised crime relating to drug smuggling at the Port of Rotterdam, most likely the situation with the guns was someone known to be armed and linked to organised crime.
I love how at 3:27 they don't even draw their gun (idk wether the Dutch Police even carry guns). I feel like in the US both of the officers would of had their guns out as soon as they leave the car. Thats one of the many benefits of not having a heavily armed population.
Yes, whe do carry guns, but is verry rear to pull them. Normal citizens in the Netherlands are not allowed to carry weapens, so only criminals do..... 😆. In normal interaction or trafic stops, it is not to be expected to encounter firearms. Whe carry pepperspray, a batton and a taser. Using our service pistol is a last resort....
Did you really just watched this video about Dutch police and say: “ I don’t know if they carry guns” 😅. Didn’t you just see these officers with pulled guns? Really dumb comment.
They do, but even drawing their gun results in reams of paperwork that need to be filled out to justify it. In the video too with the black Range Rover, they fired warning shots in the air - and that too results in another ream of paperwork to fill out, plus a judicial review (if I remember correctly). For @MoreJps at 9:55 - the reason the officers had their guns out is that they received information that the suspect was possibly armed, and they perform a "BTGV" (Benaderings Techniek Gevaarlijke Verdachte) procedure. Translates (loosely) to "approach technique for dangerous suspect".
@@hanslaro917 5:01 and 9:46 .... also a dutch police-man pulled a gun on a farmer protester and fired a shot, in 2022. Look it up! No, this is not "fake news". I am Dutch myself and it was in the news everywhere here, also international media reported it.
Standard equipment is a bullit proof vest, Walther p99 pistol with 15 rounds and 15 reserve, pepperspray, metal extendable batton, handcuffs and a taser. Whe do not have personal weapons or rifles in the car. It is verry rear to pull your weapen in the Netherlands and it is only allowed in case you are actualy alowed to use it, whitch is verry strictly regulated. In case of the chase with the Range Rover, there was probably info of weapons in the car, or they where preveously involved in a incident where weapons where used, whitch started the chase. The Range Rover had foreign license plates..... In the raid inside the apartment, you can hear a femaie officer shout "vuurwapen", or "firearm" to alarm her colegues. Performing a pit manouvre is not a common thing here. The poliice vehicles are not equiped with bullbars or any other protection.......
A lot of them actually have "hidden bullbars", Dutch police cars are anything but spec, depending on where the car is used (Rotterdam harbor, border with Germany, rural area's, etc) it will have some upgrade package that you usually can't see on the outside.
The chased person always has the disadvantage of petrol. When a chasing police car runs out of petrol, another can take over. But, the chased car can't get some new petrol.
The use of firearms by police in the Netherlands is very rare. Not only compared to the US (because that would be cheating) but compared to many countries in Europe as well. Especially given our position as entryway to Europe with Schiphol and Rotterdam Harbor. The shots at the car were most likely warningshots. Use of firearms is permitted when they are attacked with a deadly weapon (the reversing of the car counting as use of a deadly weapon) but warningshots are of course mandatory. Maybe it is fun for you to watch a "normal" police officer during their shifts. There is JW who works for the national police (Landelijke eenheid) and does shifts in cities like Utrecht, Amsterdam, Rotterdam etc. Ususally with an officer of the unit he is visiting but also solo. He does both shifts on motorbike and in marked cars. Highly recommended, new vids every Sunday. His channel is called "Politievlogger Jam Willem"
Within city limits the main concern is of course the safety of everybody else - who are there, and not expecting cars going across the streets. Btw ‘BTGV’ stands for Benaderings Techniek Gevaarlijke Verdachte: approach protocol dangerous suspect. So when the officer shouts "BTGV”, that’s when you see the firearms - there must be a previous chapter to the clip.
BTGV is especially a thing calling for radiosilence, as they than expect that someone (or even the perp itself) could be listening in on the radio-communication and thus this could give him or her an advantage they don't want them to have. There's not much that happened before that clip, the car was impounded by police earlier and one or two perps gained entrance by force and took the car from the impound lot again. Especially this got police on edge: they usually don't fire so many warning shots without so little advance verbal warning or time between drawing the fire arm and the shot itself.
These are more like arrests and not real chases because you can't see the beginning at all. I recommend this video or the channel from this video for better police chase videos from the dutch police. ruclips.net/video/7LsM8y84gjw/видео.html
The first two chases had been going on for a while, you only got to see the last moments. That Ford Focus with the flat tyre and the sparks coming of it was attempting to get on the highway driving in the wrong direction. That's just to much of a risk to the general public, that's why they pitted him
The first driver drove against the direction and crushed in many cars, so a fast pit manouver, was necessary to avoid more damage. Interesting difference to US videos, in the US you always see the faces and you usally have two policemen in any car.
second last clip is 3 minutes walk from where i lived, zaagmolenstraat in Rotterdam (its a hellhole but alas). The reason why they shot is probably because the suspect was 'vuurwapengevaarlijk' aka he had a firearm, which the police really doesnt like
It wasn't the Dutch Police was it Joel? An interesting post again Joel. I really enjoy the videos on this channel as much as your other channel. The Dutch police are really no nonsence with the car chases, perpertrators car rammed on off the road, no long chase, no delays by the look of things.
You've said several times you are going to be visiting the Netherlands. When you do and you happen go to Rotterdam, i have some decent suggestions for places to eat and such if you are interested. 😊
The manouvers and organisation are impressive. Not trying to demean in any way, but it is stil wordt mentioning that this are promotional video's from the police, so the obviously are exclusively selecting situations were the police agents acted flawlesly.
On the cars not stopping, if you stole the car and get away they are not knocking on your door, they are telling the owner. Many of these will be drink and drug related with a helping of 'mental health' and stolen cars on top ;-) [ knew too many car thieves in the 80's & 90's ]
Female friend of mine panicked for no reason the first time she got pulled up by the police and tried to escape in a fiat Panda😂 She raced up the road then made a quick left into a cul de sac😂
At 5,36 it was obvious you had been away for a fair time coz the video had gone to night time. Gotta hand it to the cloggies with their organisation when you can't understard a word they're saying.
I am enjoying these videos, but as a brit it is slightly funny seeing the car choices, VW sherans, VW transporters not exactly pursuit cars, our bobbies have the standard Vauxhall astra and other cheap crap cars, but pursuits are done in high powered golf R, BMW 3 or 5 series, new Volvo estate R models and that sort of things. if you can't get away from the dutch police in a VW transporter you should never drive again.
These chases are (fortunately) quite extreme and don't occur often. This compilation video is actually not that good, it only contains the last few seconds of each chase from the orginal video... The first case was drugs related, the driver was just not able to think straight. So was the second. The police doing a pit manouvre is the very last resort any police officer would avoid like the plague. Sometimes it is just necessary: that first car drove on the sliproad to a highway, against traffic, while under the influence. Many of these clips were taken (stolen?) from the PRO247 channel just here: www.youtube.com/@PolitiePRO247 It is really worth it to check that channel out. The main difference with the US police is the organization and availability of colleagues, so any chase can end quicky and safely. And don't forget that there is no gun violence, and if there is, there is a special police force to tackle those rare situations.
When the police pulls their guns like that, it usually means they received information that the suspect is (probably) armed.

@@hanslaro917 5:01 and 9:46 .... also a dutch police-man pulled a gun on a farmer protester and fired a shot, in 2022. Look it up! No, this is not "fake news". I am Dutch myself and it was in the news everywhere here, also international media reported it.
in the netherlands, the gun only really comes out when it's organized crime, cuz they have uzis
Hans, doe wat aan je Engels. T lijkt echt nergens op😂
@@faas9806 joh, doe jij eens een riedeltje weggeven dan? Put your money where your mouth is, as they say...
A lot of them actually have "hidden bullbars", Dutch police cars are anything but spec, depending on where the car is used (Rotterdam harbor, border with Germany, rural area's, etc) it will have some upgrade package that you usually can't see on the outside.
I would think the worst bit is getting caught by a VW Transporter van 😂😂

Advanced information about the person,,,, could be someone that’s been under surveillance for a while.
The first two chases had been going on for a while, you only got to see the last moments. That Ford Focus with the flat tyre and the sparks coming of it was attempting to get on the highway driving in the wrong direction. That's just to much of a risk to the general public, that's why they pitted him
Watch Jan Willem politievlogger he also explains how the Dutch police works.
They draw their guns, because that suspect was armed, which is crazy in Holland.
The first driver drove against the direction and crushed in many cars, so a fast pit manouver, was necessary to avoid more damage.
Interesting difference to US videos, in the US you always see the faces and you usally have two policemen in any car.
The Dutch Police is driving more German cars and dance the German police, many German police cars are from Ford
Whe drive VW and Mercedes as standard 👍
You should watch some clips from Police Interceptors (UK).
What you are talking in kilometres per hour now????? And really nice manoeuvres from the Dutch police to quickly bring things to a stop.
Yeah in Australia we're km / hr , so 100 makes sense to me as that's a common highway speed for us
The last clip is a raid on a house but the officers see a firearm on a table
1:15 They didn't wait with the pit maneuver because they were going in the wrong way towards the highway.
Nope - they just Sgt Catherine from Happy Valley . She'll take care of it
last one was a raid by the dutch police
Nice reaction! Could you react to ‘Dutch slander’? There are lots of videos and its quite funny. Greetings from Alkmaar (North-Holland)
second last clip is 3 minutes walk from where i lived, zaagmolenstraat in Rotterdam (its a hellhole but alas).
It was Dutch police
You've said several times you are going to be visiting the Netherlands. When you do and you happen go to Rotterdam, i have some decent suggestions for places to eat and such if you are interested. 😊
The car was going in reverse, so before the car backed into a couple of officers, they opened fire.
Dutch police equipment. ruclips.net/video/BLcfEMwZn-4/видео.html
It looked like he was probably going to use the range rover as a weapon by reversing at the police, in that case they are allowed to shoot.
Must say, the videos from: youtube.com/@Pol_Exp_Ope?si=unWJgmGXTBPtkjE- , have the best Dutch Police chases.
Rotterdam is a major port of Europe and you never know how you have to face you!
Nice video maybe you can react to the dutch Dsi (Dienst Speciale Interventies) ?
The manouvers and organisation are impressive. Not trying to demean in any way, but it is stil wordt mentioning that this are promotional video's from the police, so the obviously are exclusively selecting situations were the police agents acted flawlesly.
think they only show the end. have seen car chases that have lasted 30-40 minutes in europe, even from one country to another.
Did you say ? Obedience? Rustig broer
On the cars not stopping, if you stole the car and get away they are not knocking on your door, they are telling the owner. Many of these will be drink and drug related with a helping of 'mental health' and stolen cars on top ;-)
[ knew too many car thieves in the 80's & 90's ]
Female friend of mine panicked for no reason the first time she got pulled up by the police and tried to escape in a fiat Panda😂 She raced up the road then made a quick left into a cul de sac😂
The Police here waste as less time chase you as possible. Theynwant to end it fast to keep everyone safe.
It might be a stolen car….
If it is just a stolen car, is is not alowed to pull your service weapen in the Netherlands.....
America can learn something from the police in the Netherlands. They dont kill you right away
They pulled there guns and shot warning shots because he started driving back in the police’s direction
in arkansas the state troopers are the best with p.i.t...just look at that...youtube channel arkansas police activity
At 5,36 it was obvious you had been away for a fair time coz the video had gone to night time. Gotta hand it to the cloggies with their organisation when you can't understard a word they're saying.
the dutch police arent shooty. they try to handle it without guns but if youre a big criminal with firearms they are more cautious.
In the UK were I they all ways the there going to get away and yeah it's stupid because mine times out of ten they never get away
you ain't dutch you ain't much 💪
you have subtitles on youtube maby smart to usage and when the cops shoot you know why
Check out Australian Cops: love your reaction videos.

I don't recognise those communication methods, sorry.
