The Night Shift at 24 Hour Fitness

  • So over the summer, I got a job as an Overnight Service Expert at a 24 Hour Fitness. This has been my favorite job I have ever had. I was made for this job. I was already a night owl, so the shift from 10:30 PM to 6:00 AM wasn't too bad considering I only had to stay up an extra few hours. I worked Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. This was every week for around 2 to 3 months.
    Anyways, going into this job, I knew it was going to get boring fast. With nobody in the gym and with towel service ending at 24HF, I figured I might as well have some fun with it. My boss even told me the first day that he doesn't mind if I go watch some Netflix or listen to some music when the hours are slow.
    So then, I decided to try to document my experience working the graveyard shift. Every time I had a shift, I recorded just a short vlog either detailing what I did that shift or physically showing something that I was doing that shift. Either way, I ended up with a lot of fluff. As you might expect, this isn't the most exciting job in the world, so I did cut a lot of (at least what I think was) the boring stuff. Anyways, here is (more or less) what my experience was like working the night shift at 24 Hour Fitness.
    Hope you enjoy :)

    So you have a ton of downtime, but they prevent you from using your phone to pass the time when nobody's coming in and there's no cleaning to do?

    I’m thinking about applying for a night shift position at my local 24 hour, have you had a problem with your sleep schedule? And also is the position you applied to the service and sales overnight position?

      Yo RP, I start tonight as janitor and I'm looking forward to it. I am also curious of the sleep issue but I think it will work out fine. I just have to APPLY myself ya know? Good luck buddy!

      @@michaelmayes9532 thank you! Didn’t hear back from 24hr fitness yet but I also applied to other overnight shifts at gyms, my friend that works a 10pm-6am shift says that at first the sleep schedule is a little rough but after the first week it’s pretty normal!

      Not really, I could only do things that require little attention like watching a movie because I still had to stay vigilant throughout the shift. I definitely couldnt fit a whole workout during a shift

    Dont say that your stealing towels, that just confirms that you maybe should be fired. Also, wearing headphones, walking around, and the other thing that was said promotes productivity. May I suggest wearing one headphone, and getting up and walking around to give you movement and to see if anything needs maintenance. Im saying these thing because if you want something in life you HAVE to MAKE it happen. 👍🏻

      Yeah, you're probably right. This job probably wasn't for me if I couldn't take it seriously. I was just trying to make the most out of what was, to me personally, a mundane and generally boring experience.

    • @keegancan
      @keegancan 4 года назад +2

      It’s probably boring because people make it less boring. I did the night shift at a gym before, but I kept busy because if I didn’t I wouldn’t benefit from it. You can chose to see a reason for your life. Ironically, you actually did keep busy, now that I think about it, it was just in a non-productive way. Maybe make a video to help people stay productive on the night shift?

    I just listened to the cell phone usage which just means that if your on it, you may not care enough, so maybe find a job where you care more about it, than your phone.
