So many got to deal with abusive partners and stay too long in these non-nurturing deals, they get a form of PTSD and find it harder to deal with some types of personalities. Older men, are more like parental equivalents to some, and their words, even if unintended, some...tend to open old closed wounds, most of us would rather not recall in gross detail to ourselves, because, maybe, in some cases, not all, of course. They hear someone say a similar type of comment, tone of voice or some random thing the other person may say, and it triggers a defense reaction so strongly felt, they relive part of the past trauma in their dealing with new relationships. Stability is kind of what we all seek, someone to rely on and to have good amicable and fairly non-abusive partnerships. Sad to suggest that when we get really stabbed in our ego and self regard, it's a hard, sucker punch to our our sense of worth, and sometimes it goes from childhood to adult relationships and finds no one can meet the expectations of a partner, regardless of gender or preference, we all feel the same basic emotional set of feelings.
