I totally agree. I've been in both France and Italy a lot starting back when I was university age in the 1970s. As far as fashion and style, it's Italy in general for me and I love being in the city of Milan. Greetings from Los Angeles
At 60, I agree with you completely regarding hair and makeup. For the past decade or so, my focus is on good, quality skin- and hair-care products vs. trying to mask or hide my natural features.
I am 57 as well. I agree with you 100% - I don’t overdo my hair or makeup. I also found that incorporating trend accents into my wardrobe works better for me than going full on. Love and appreciate your work. Thank you.
Hi Leonie ❤ another great video. French style to me is chic, elegant and timeless. I loved the photos you selected!! My own style is eclectic and funky with a mix of classic timeless pieces :)
Finally...a French Woman Fashion video done right. You broke the code by highlighting fashionistas instead of average French women. Not all French women are fashionable. Love how you deep dived to find fashionable patterns. Love this video.
I agree, the average french woman is not better dressed than those in europe and Britain. However, they are generally very good at layering pieces, especially during the change of seasons. Usually when shopping they will encourage you to try belts, jackets and other accessories. I am mot sure it its genuine interest or commission based, but I am still wearing some of the items I purchased at their suggestions. I travel to france each year and have done so for a long time.
Oh, the “Less is More” thing is so true! I’m 61, and about 10 years ago I got my makeup done, went outside and got in my car, flipped down the visor and checked the mirror. I was MORTIFIED! I looked like a clown, or alien, or some unholy product of the union of both. I went back in, washed that off, and started over. I’ll never back down from a red lip, but the heavy foundation, blush and eye makeup-no more. I crashed a shoulder in 2017 and could not use my left arm for almost a year. I got a Pixie cut that took off the color and I can’t describe the feeling of freedom. I’ve grown it out again now, and I actually like my color-grays and all! (This is in NO way judgment any anyone’s look. I believe everyone should create and curate his/her own look, and I celebrate that fully!)
This is a great video to remind us to find our style and our muse. Sometimes it is easy to follow the trends and forget how important style is. Thanks for the muse info.
I love a "French women style breakdown" as it's attainable for all purses and so effortlessly chic. Though the women of Milan are simply french-kisses 😊
While there have my own style I am always interested in looking at other styles. Sometimes we can get stuck in a bit of a rut so it’s good to keep an open mind.
I live in 🇫🇷 and I think that only 30°\• of the women really dresses like "the French style" you describe. Most of the time they put clothes on. What you show is what you see on Instagram or other social media and they have been thinking about their outfits for a moment before making the picture on the perfect place with the perfect light.
It always amazes me how some women are unaware of the existence of the nude color strapless when they dress, particularly in summer. This was a great video! I was very fortunate to learn all those French tips from my grandmother and my mother, so much that they feel completely normal to me. Thank you.
Oh brilliant! Let me know how you get on with it Charlotte. It might take a couple of nights to get used to because it's very different to a regular pillow but once you do there's no going back x
Your hair is perfect for you, and it is an established element of your style that complements all your fashion choices and projects ease and approachability. Beautiful. Thanks for another thought provoking video. I have been drawn to some of the RUclips street style videos from Milan. I am intrigued and mystified by what makes fashion look French vs. Italian vs. Japanese vs. Korean vs. Scandinavian. I like the images of older women enjoying their exuberance through colors, patterns and shapes. I am 67. There are days I need to run out of the house after barely pulling a brush through my wet hair and then brushing it again before I get out of the car. The open-window style by Mother Nature is good enough for an early doctor's appointment where I am mostly wanting to make a statement that simply projects "clean and pleasant". Otherwise I struggle with doing a very minimal blow dry even if it's just to get rid of the frizz. I am retired and don't have the motivation to maintain an "office standard.". It's the one thing that makes the biggest difference with how I look and feel. I have worked with my hair stylist to go with a sporty, wind lown, beachy look that is easy to care for, but I am envious of how polished people look in some of the street videos because their hair always looks so intentional. If you were to do a side by side of the same person in the same outfit with and without their hair done, it would not matter if they were dressed up or dressed down, the intentional hair pictures would win every time. Makeup, on the other hand does not seem to have as great of an effect. My theory of the greatest impact on how someone's appearance ranks as: 1. Cleanliness 2. Posture 3. Hair 4. Clothing 5. Makeup Then voice, personality, movement and other things come into play. Sometimes it's noticeable how these impacts overcome, or maybe "outshine" is a better word, characteristics like age and fitness. At this point in my life, my goal is not to be perceived as "fashionable" but my goal is to use fashion as a tool to be perceived as friendly, fun, approachable, creative, competent, happy, tolerant and easy going. Ok, I just decided to put this list on my phone as a test for whether or not to buy something. Bringing my thoughts around to the beginning, you consistently project the goals in my list and your hair choices are part of that. There is integrity with where you are in your career and your life right now and that makes you a tremendous role model. Just know you are appreciated and keep on being true to yourself. Well done.
French fashion is based on good cut, good fabric and fabulous underwear, a French woman will have the best underwear no matter where she goes, classic styling with trend twists, it’s how they always look well put together
Love this video! All the examples of pics really made this interesting. And if I may give you personal feedback…love the red on you! I also love all the make-up you’re wearing. Your eyes stand out so much and look beautiful. One last thing. You seem very professional in this video, yet personable. Stick with the ‘professional’ bc you ARE a professional. Don’t worry about ‘not’ being personable or making us ‘happy’ - in other words- we (myself included) can all be too nice trying to please people. The professional side with your bold style/self really shines today- that’s what I love & want to see more of. :-)
I’m younger than you and there are some things that you pull off that I cannot, simply because of my body type and height. Good style is ageless if the fit and proportion are right. I’ve noticed that European people value quality over quantity and it doesn’t make sense to them to buy low quality items. That means they will invest in one pair of well-made trousers rather than several cheap pairs, and they will wear that one pair on repeat. I really enjoy the style of Camille Rowe. I watched a video by one of the French women you featured and was surprised by how much effort French women put into their diet and exercise. It’s not that I think they eat croissants and drink wine all day, but I was surprised by how much they invest in quality everything, right down to their supplements. I think that affords them the freedom to go basic and minimal with their hair and makeup. As with their clothes, they invest in the basics, and that includes investing in the health of their bodies, which is the foundation of every outfit.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with your hair. I think you look great. Fashion and hair are a personal choice. That’s why I agree with the French woman, I wear what I feel good in regardless of the rules, sometimes sticking to the rules can age you.
I like fashion. I like to take some of the trends & not always wear them they way of suggestions but incorporate them in with what I already enjoy of my own. I don’t want to copy a woman from another country , get ideas yes, but make them my own in the good ole American way. I’m proud to be an American & I enjoy other cultures but I believe in not exposing everything , classy looks with a touch of trend. Also comfort is important. Fashion being fun in a classy modest way. I enjoy my home, the clothes I wear, my God especially,& love people. I enjoy my life . I enjoy your videos. I take the good & the bad & make the most of them.
I spend more time in Spain and the Spanish women (and men)certainly know how to dress well. Lots of inspiration! ❤️🇪🇸 Do French women actually wear baseball caps? I’ve been to Paris many times. Don’t recall ever seeing any actual French women wear baseball caps. More Scandinavian young women perhaps? French?????
@@Kelly-pp1et Yes, but not always a good style. The Milanese often love too much drama in their styles. Some styles and trends are stupid. For example Kinee boots during a hot summer weather wirh 35 Grad. Or wide leg trousers which are so long, that they clean the floor during a city walk. Or old women who are walking in shoes with 10 cm heels, but are not really able to walk nicely in this shoes. Or women who show half of their breast during a walk in the city, daytime. I could give you much more examples, what you will not see in Paris, Perhaps only from tourists but not from realy french women.
This might be the most endearing form of generalization/stereotyping ever. 😂❤ So many compliments! I feel alive, as you describe, wearing yellow or orange in my outfits… even the teeniest pop of colour will do! (Think hair accessory, bold hat, etc)
Why do people just swear the French are the “it” women?? I do not find this to be true. Go to the streets of Milan for real stylish women. Paris isn’t it anymore and hasn’t been for like 2 decades but I think people like the nostalgia of Paris and what it used to be…. I mean, yes, there are some stylish women and stylish bloggers from France, but that could be said for literally any country. There are going to be stylish women in all places it doesn’t mean that it applies to the whole gender of one specific country.
I get my inspiration from Milan , the fashion capital of the world. The Milanese women are on another level.
I agree!

And many of them are following every trend, even if the trends look stupid and ugly.
European women are so classy. Thanks for the inspo 💕

Do not idealize the style of French women. They are most of the time poorly dressed in average clothes..
Exactly what I’ve been saying. Having visited both France and Italy, I know that the Milanese women are way superior in style.
Don’t you think this is quite a generalisation & depends on your very personal aesthetic & opinions of what being well dressed really is?
@@Happinc the video is dependent on generalization 🤦🏼♀️
Agreed. It’s nothing special, very average at best.
