Shawn Wright I had the honor to have Chris in one of my classes when he was at msu. he was one of the best students I've had since I began to teach in 2003 in terms of intelligence, active participation in class, and politeness.
Nothing makes me cry more than thinking about the blind of our society. I remember going to work early in the morning around 6 am years ago and seeing a blind lady that was ALWAYS there, I assume going to work, and struggling like the rest of us, using her cane and navigating her environment. Around that time I was very discontent with my life feeling sorry for myself, but when i saw her EVERY day doing the same thing I was doing, going to work out of sheer necessity, without the miraculous gift and privilege of sight, it made me weep like a baby when i was by myself in my room thinking about her and others in her situation. It's still hard to take. May the good lord bless their souls!
I am around chris just about everyday i work at winslow dinning hall he is such a inspiration on everybody. He amazes me on the way he handles life from day to day. And i always ask him about his day n tell him to keep his head up and be strong...thanks chris for being a inspiration on me n reminding me anybody can do anything as long as you keep ur head up n keep going.....doug smitley....
Very inspiring. I am a recently blinded woman in Milwaukee Wisconsin, and a writer, author, sailboat racer, and a musician, and I do everything I did before I lost my eyesight.
Wow this is heartbreaking to know about a person who’s freedom of the gift of life is degraded let alone being a person who is blind. I commend Chris for his courage and endurance.
I was born about 3 months too early and I weighed 2.2lbs in 1968. I was in an incubator for two months and had open heart surgery when I was two years old. We are both lucky to be alive, you and me, Chris! I am legally blind. 20/200 and 20/400. I'm 48 now. I went to college too at LA Tech. In Ruston, LA, the same town as LA TECH, they have a wonderful Center for the Blind there and I attended their 6 month program. I learned how to use a white cane, read Braille, orientation and mobility classes, computer classes using JAWS, and basic independence and life skills. I highly recommend LA Center for the Blind. We are lucky to be alive right now, with all of this great technology that helps us. My retinas didn't develop fully, nor in the correct location in my eyes, so I am suffering from exotropia (outward turned eyes -- strabismus) and also a severe nystagmus. Recently my vitreous liquid in my left eye is detaching and I am losing the little sight I have in that eye. This is a common thing for people with Retinopathy of Prematurity to possibly experience in their 40's- 50's, so I'm right on schedule apparently, hahaha. Good Luck to you, Chris! PS-- are you a member of the National Federation of the Blind? I am, they were a huge help to me all of my life.
Hi Chris and Gale. Your video helps to take the fear out of the unknown for those who may be losing their sight. Hope your graduation went well and you're following your career dreams...😊 from the UK
A truly amazing video on an inspiring man. Chris has empowered me to live life to the fullest and never give up no matter what. I wish him a life long and full of happiness. And one day a lucky individual will get the honor of marrying an authentic human being that is Chris.

@@albinoguidedog your dog looks super cute, btw! I'm just worried that noone would hire a blind person if there's a normal person who applied for the job, especially since I don't live in a very modern country. I'm sorry if I'm bothering you, but how can a (completely) blind person be a teacher when they can't see what their students are doing and if they're cheating on exams?
@don't let corona bite I was a teachers aid for a few years for a special ed school. Most blind people that are teachers usually teach other blind students. And sadly if a blind person and a sighted person both went for a job the chances of the sight person getting the job are higher then the blind person. Even if that sighted person has less qualifications then the blind person.
@@albinoguidedog yeah, here where I live we don't even have those schools. I'm still a teen but my sight is very bad so I'm scared about what profession can I have if the worst happens
My twin brother Justin was born blind too. He has caregivers that come over on Wednesdays through Sundays and they help him bathe and they make him lunch. He can play piano and beatbox (:
I am not blind yet but it is going that way. My left eye is mostly blind and my right eye might follow soon (glaucoma that is being treatment resistant) it is nice to see others coping without sight.
I had a dream that I think I was blind and I could only see colors, but not the actual image so someone had to help me move around. I could distinguish light and dark colors. I wonder if that' s how actually being blind is like.
Hello I just recently lost part of my vision in October in now carry low vision I was interested in attending some sort of line college ring do you have any suggestions on how to begin that process? Thanks again for the support and inspiration

Hi. Sorry it took me so long to see this comment. One of my friends told me that I had comments to this video. The watch is a braille watch, so it opens up ,allowing me to tell the time. This is accomplished by having three dots on the 12, two on the three, to on the six, and two on the nine. All other numbers have one dot. Thank you for watching.
Most blind people love to read! Between braille and audiobooks, we are some of the most well red people you’ll ever meet. Your comment is actually extremely rude.
No and this is a very frustrating question that anyone with a vision impairment is constantly asked. There are many different causes of vision loss, most of which cannot be “fixed“ by any current medical technology. It doesn’t mean that someone who is blind cannot live a happy, successful and fulfilling life, have a great career, raise a family etc. It’s unfortunate that someone who is visually impaired constantly faces bombardment with questions about why we don’t just wear better glasses or get surgery.
This is my grandson,, Chris. I'm very proud of you! What a great job you did on this video. I'm just beaming with pride!

For the same reason anyone else does. Blind people can still use watches
