Can we take a moment to admire the AMAZING job the pianist is doing? Wish I could buy this whole class music as a cd!!!!
Yessss
Thank you? I’ve played the piano for nearly 30 years. Playing for ballet class is THE hardest thing I’ve ever done, even though I danced and knew what the ballet master was talking about.
*!
@@ayladavis6257 Wow, you're the pianist from this class???? Thank you so much for your beautiful art, i keep coming back to this video not just bc of the dancers but bc of the music too!! If you dont mind, could you tell me what song was playing at min 47? Thanks :D
You know what drives me mad? that these dancers train just as hard, or even harder than most sports players. However, dancers make millions of dollers less than a professional hockey player.
The thing is that sports player have a bigger audience that is also easier accessible for the public. Ballet is still seen as something that only rich people watch and as a stiff and stuck up sport. It's not really a communal sport.
TheEternalScream
Ballet isn't a sport, it's an art! But you're right, most people just want to drink beer and have fun with their friends, so they go to soccer/hockey/football games, because they are pretty easy to understand and have no deeper meaning... -.-
Yep definitely agree with you, most people don't appreciate art though. There is a reason why museums sadly have to be funded by the government to survive.
Yes, ballet is beautiful, but what people are looking for is something that will easily entertain. Something that you can cheer for and have pride for, you know. You cheer on your team against some other one. That's why sports are so popular.
Like, dance is easily one of the most entertaining things to watch, which is why sports like rhythmic and artistic gymnastics, figure skating, etc. are always nice to watch and appreciate. The only difference is competition.
Edit: I think other thing is that people don't necessarily understand ballet. Everyone knows it's strenuous and a gorgeous form of art, but they don't know any of the positions. It also doesn't help that ballet isn't accessible to many. Ballet, I feel, is a very competitive art. It's like gymnastics, where you have to have a certain body type to really succeed (beautiful arches, hyperextensions, etc.). Furthermore, ballet isn't like a school club or anything, so kids aren't exposed to it in actual life. They aren't able to really experience it unless they join a studio, and even so, the studio probably isn't the best at teaching ballet. And, to do well in ballet, you [normally] have to start at a young age.
@@summertime7651 I absolutely agree. The companies and dancers are not necessarily the marketers to push this art to the general public, like Russia where ballet dancers are celebrities and have the higher social status. For that purpose, World Ballet Day in recent years is a great asset not only to the ballet world, but also the human race!
What an amazing teacher... not only how she directs or the nice flow her class has, but she's russian teaching mostly in English, giving precise remarks in French, and throughout the class I heard her correct and advise in English, French and Spanish! She really cares about her pupils.
jeyloui And Russian, too.
And Italian too!
I was lucky being a student in America (where we are embarrassingly monolingual for the most part) that my father speaks about 6 languages. It made adapting to following directions in French much easier. To see what if felt like for French dancers, we occasionally did class in English. For example: four stretched on the cross.
And italian
The lady directing the warm up seems lovely. She seems to be very helpful without being critical of the dancers. She is really looking to help improve them instead of just telling them what they are doing wrong!
That teacher is so gorgeous!
What a beautiful art.
Yes, she nags them and loves them at the same time.
That's ballet teachers for ya
That pianist is incredible
Claudia Dean absolutely killing it from 1:13:39 onwards! As much as I love her coaching videos, it's really nice to see her like this!
Didn't notice her until they started center.
Yes!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 that back leg UP TO THE GODS!
I noticed her while they were marking plies😂
What type of jumps is she doing?
she's at 39:00 as well
Ha ha! I love how she calls out the stragglers at 48:30! Just because you are in a company does Not mean you can just chill in the corner.
I laughed so hard at that bit!
Ballet dancers may be slim as a majority, but the muscle tone on these gals and gents is pretty intense. Not to mention, how robust their knees must be to keep this up hours a day. My knees would explode.
It actually strengthens the muscles around the knees. I have bad knees, but with ballet, my knee issues feel non existent
I read that professional ballet dancers make somewhere around 30-35k a year. Why do they get paid so little? They train their whole lives, push their bodies to the brink of limitation, and have to be perfect and elegant while performing in front of an audience. You would think they would at least make 100k. I know people will say they are doing what they love but, damn, that's no money at all. You might as well work an office job and make like 50k or something. I would be pissed if I was a ballerina and people like Kim K makes millions while doing absolutely nothing!
+ella122112
Exactly. Instead of promoting women who twerk and degrade themselves and the men rapping about negative things that damage communities; art like ballet among other classy forms of human expression should be the norm. It's disgusting how the world focuses on dumb and negative things. I don't understand anything in today's so called culture; maybe I was born in the wrong time period lol.
MickyMicky Mike
I am this generation and I think I was born in the wrong time period!
yep. thats what happened nowadays. you know in china, we have one kind of ballet that involve a bit more acrobatics, something from russia i guess. these dancers get train when they are very young and most of them suffer from back pain, hyperosteogeny and sequelas after their 30s. if they get famous, they get famous. if not, they ll lose everything, time and health. i watched a tv interview about a dancer couple. after they graduation they went back to their hometown and opened a little grocery store. the reason why they stop pursuing dancing was because the husband didnt want his wife to suffer more pain. so sad. they look like more people on the street. they had a dance on that show too. it was amazing!
Mate, this is easy to answer why they earn so little. Well because there are hundred of dancers in a company, and a company has to provide medical care, ballet shoes, the floors and the stage. The rest goes to the dancers, divided. Thus, this means little wage for them.
Principal dancers can make much more than that. It depends on what company the dancer is with. Even apprentices make more than that if they are with a top company. Also, look at Misty Copeland, she increases her income with product endorsements and commercial contracts =) But I agree dancers should be paid well! I would guess people like Osipova do just fine =)
I'm a frustrated ballerina, watching this brings me tears :') dancing is such a beautiful privilege
I love how the instructor is firm, but very nice. She helps her students, and points out everything and suggests how to fix it. Many people think elite ballet instructors are strict and mean, but this is a perfect example proving that wrong. I would LOVE to take that class!!
yes, i love love LOVE how she knows the names of all 100-odd dancers in the company, and is willing to speak to them in their first languages
Dear Koljuska,
We're conducting some research and development. When you use this video for home class - do you dance alongside the dancers? Would you be interested in an online tool that allows you to take Ballet Class with the Royal Ballet?
Royal Opera House Please do that. I love to watch and dance along!
Everyday I get online and watch every Royal Ballet Class that I can and participate along side the dancers as if I am actually in the class and would greatly appreciate an online tool that further allows me to be more active, in depth, and precise with my technique as I follow along. Thank you.
yes please! i would love a video dance along class. it is so frustrating when they talk over the music and the camera is moving constantly. if there was any way to focus on the teacher when she is giving the combination, then keep the camera still during each combination. and microphone on the piano.
This would be amazing.
I use this videos to guide my stretching and warm ups before I go to the ice.
My friends and I do figure skating so when we are not taking formal lessons videos like this are sort of a life line to better technique!
yes plz how can i take an online class i am a beginner and i really want to take ballet class but i cant take because i am far from the class
I've never taken a ballet class in my life and literally have no interest in it- yet I could watch videos like this all day. So much respect to all the dancers out there xx
Just noticed the pregnant woman in the grey top as well- so dedicated!!
Seal Fantamide me too! i have never been interested in ballet really but lately i am obsessed. it looks so light and classy
Seal Fantamide Thx. I'm a ballet dancer😊
Who else spent most of their time searching for their favorite dancers? lol :D Loved this video. I think I've watched the entire thing 3-4 times!
I go back and watch these all the time and I try to learn the combos as the class goes along and it helps in my regular dance classes haha
same
Abbie Martin SAAAME
The male principal in the grey was beautiful to watch
+Bella Hammond super!!
Edward Watson, rising star. I loved watching him too.
God Bless these people who are willing to dedicate their lives to such a demanding art, an art that gives such beauty in performance to the world. I took ballet lessons in junior and senior high school, consumed every book and treatise I could about the art, and knew what sacrifice is demanded of every dancer. Thank you all. I love the teacher in this episode too.
this teacher just looks lovely:)
I know! She teaches really great and you get the feeling, you want to take her home with you! Love that lady!
TrixiausNebra haha yes , exactly !:)
They all have such an amazing turn-out! Even the teacher is still able to do a perfect 5th position! Amazing and inspiring! Makes me want to work harder in all my classes =)
well they are one of the top companies in the world, it'd be a shame if they didn't have flawless technicality lol
Gaby Itzel Quirós
I know ;)
But that doesn't make it any less fascinating or amazing, does it? =)
Since ballet is such a difficult artform, you can't learn it with online tutorials or something. You need a qualified teacher who is able to correct your mistakes!
Michael Reyes you can't learn how to dance via a class video.
Violet Heroine
Agreed. I realize that these dancers, while beautiful, do many things technically improper from an anatomical standpoint. With all due respect. And I must say without reservation, these dancers and their teacher inspire me completely and fill me with gratitude. I love dance, and I love dancers.
That said: two of the things I see immediately are, that many of the dancers are not using the floor as in "tendu" (which means 'to stretch'). They lift their foot just above it and therefore cause unnecessary tension in their legs, hips and back, and feet. It is so much healthier to push the foot down and into the floor just enough to create a nice balanced pressure between the foot and the floor. This way the dancer will experience more freedom during performance of movement.
I see some dancers squeezing the glutei muscles while working. This is not necessary. Squeezing and overworking these muscles when they are not needed to perform various movements is called, "faulty muscle recruitment".
Learning to isolate certain muscles and muscle groups is key to quality performance of movement and purity of line, and most importantly --- a long healthy career.
Back to what you first said... yes, it is true that you need a teacher. And the teacher must always focus on 2 principles... efficient skeletal alignment (ESA) and functional muscle recruitment (FMR) as the basis for the lesson.
And further be able to choreograph exercises that give the student the opportunity to develop this institution of ESA and FMR.
It is a science to know how to prepare the body for something as intense and extreme as dance is on the body. One that avoids injury and establishes a technique that involves freedom of movement.
After learning these two principles, the dancer has the opportunity to become a true Master of their art.
I appreciate being able to comment. This is not meant to offend. Thank you for reading.
Pianist is great. Must be exhausted. Playing on and on and on. Wonderful
This teacher is amazing. I love how she speaks in about 4 languages in one class!
Wow, i've never seen calf muscles like the guy in the grey's!!
Welcome to ballet that thing is pretty normal
I wish those commentators weren't there. I know they're explaining things to people who don't know much about ballet, but I really just want to watch the class. Also, I am so jealous of their port de bras!
I feel the same way about those commentators as well, hahaha.
This is my Favorite Ballet Instructor!💖 I always come back to watch her, I truly adore her technique.😙
The teacher...she is IMPRESSIVE herself! Amazing warm-up, conditioning. Wish I could do any little bit of this.
I love the singing-like instructions of this lady
Diego Escamilla I have a teacher who does that... it's so funny
I'm definitely giving my future daughter (if I have one) the oportunity to start doing ballet when she's little... Not gonna put pressure on her but I'll let her give it a chance. I guess I lost mine... I've recently discovered that I'd love to move like that. It's just so majestic, so classy, so nice... I love it!
This is a very romantic take on a ballet dancer's life. I did it, and would never encourage my daughter to do it. There's a lot behind the scenes that you don't see..it's hard and at times physically and mentally destroying.
Yeah, but I don't think about professional ballet... just for the fun of it... but of course I wouldn't push her at all, but you're right, you may know better than me, apparently it's not always like that
If you see that she has a gift for ballet, keep training her. If she tells you that she wants to quit, make sure she's in the right frame of mind when she's telling you that. It's amazing to see dancers grow young.
Forest fields I disagree. I'm a ballet dancer (purely recreational) and I absolutely love it. Yes, it can be very hard physically, but it also gets you in AMAZING shape. As for mentally destroying… I find ballet to be just about the complete opposite of that.
PigPenguin91 You said ti, recreational.
It would be really nice if we could watch the whole class without interruptions. Not that the interviews aren't enjoyable too. They do say very interesting things, but maybe if there would be a separate segment of interviews and not interrupting the class? I think many people would enjoy it that way.
I agree, I would like to hear what the teacher said
LOVE Olga’s classes esp these old ones. Her barre is so thorough-and really shows the RBC’s emphasis on core strength.
I love the intensity and grace - and I also love how the interviewer says "That must get exhausting". Dancers are used to 5-6 hours a day of intense rehearsals. At the professional level I would go nuts if I weren't dancing 5-6 days. It would feel wrong.
The guy with red hair in the gray dances so well... he's so graceful😆
That's Edward Watson www.roh.org.uk/people/edward-watson
I was just thinking the same- he literally moves like some kind of supernatural being and his legs are literally awe-inspiring :)
The ballet mistress is gorgeous.
I've watched this a million times
We do the same beginning stretches to start my ballet class and I am no where near their skill level. Ballet is so beautiful to watch, I hope to be half as good as them all one day!
Wild, I've not seen Ms Evreinoff since I was about 16. When I was taught by her at NBS in Toronto... Wow, a lifetime ago. She looks fab!
Wow, you were taught by Olga!? That's awesome!
Don''t they all look so beautiful
The ballet mistress Olga is simply amazing! Strict and fun!
They make it look so criminally easy.
It's something called practice and being good
I LOVE how the teacher walks around and gives corrections to everyone!!! It’s such a big class and she manages to help everyone out while my old teacher had a class of 15 and couldn’t correct more than 3 people the whole class
This is so inspiring. I'm 23 and I'm in 4th year. I know I started late but I think that's not a problem but a motivation. I love ballet and watching this classes and the great technique everyone have there makes me want to dance and learn more and more. Thanks for sharing this with us
Don't let age restrict you from anything. I just started as well and I'm 13 :)
+Fawn Kongsiri and have you seen teen vogue strictly ballet season 1? Alec was 13 when he started ballet
LaFleur 5 days a week
I wish I went to ballet 6 days a week!
Crystal Dawn i wish that too
Indeed! I wish I had the money and time to do that!
I love how the teaches feels when she gestures the steps to do
And: she's so lovely speaking in Spanish omg 47:20
Gorgeous.. They are so beautiful!
Ahhh, I love Olga Evreinoff as a ballet mistress!! she's honestly so lovely to watch and listen to!
The most incredible teacher on the Earth and well Loved by Everyone Xxxxxx
Watching Nela in class is so satisfying. She’s such an awesome dancer! 😍🥰
I used to be a ballet dancer and I regret stopping so much! It really teaches you a lot of dicipline and it's a great workout, also it really helps you to get a sense of music and a feeling of tact
12:07- holy bum!
This is so wonderful!! I'm having such a great time watching :)
The ballet instructor is soo calm and sweet, her way of teaching just makes me want to learn from her!
I'm seriously distracted by the talking. Let's just watch these incredible dancers! 😍😍😍😍
yes i wish they'd shutup.
hell0hkitty 퓨
Yup. Just shut up and let us enjoy.
I really wish they hadn't done the little interview... I wanted the whole class.
Exactly! We could have danced along.
Edward Watson, the male in all grey, dances so beautifully. No wonder why he is a principal. :P
WOOOOW that guy in 1:9:59 on the left!! he is such an amazing jumper!!!
I die at "le braccia in prima posizione, Valentino"
"Get your arms organised, Valentino!" :'D
lianmm19lm when did she mention that?
1:14:38
Or "arms in first position, Valentino!"
This is such a good warmup... glad they shared
i love how she pronunciates very well all the steps :) plus she talked in spanish at some point!
Their feet are perfect! The way the girls stand on pointé(?) and make it look so easy is amazing
Ballet is beautiful, I just can’t live without ballet ❤️ ballet is a beautiful art and a wonderful exercise for the body and the soul 😀🩰 I practice ballet and i can’t stop feeling grateful for this form of art 🥰🤧
I can't believe it!!
Claudia Dean, marianela Nunez and I forget the name of them but the 3 girls from ballet through the years, all train in the same class
It's hard to believe that Claudia is such a great ballet teacher herself now!!!!
This is absolutely amazing! Ballet practice looks and is such a hard work,
but worth all the effort! Just stunning! Thank you for the upload!
"And second and.. Ooo look there's money there" 😂😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣
Didn't think I would watch the whole hour and fifteen but I couldn't take my eyes off it! Completely captivated by their strength and elegance.
They're all wearing the most random clothes lol like a sleeveless north face coat?! Hahaha
It's to keep there muscles warm so that they don't get injured:) haha
I love these company classes. I'd like to see more of them.
OMG!!! This was the most incredible thing I have ever seen!!! So inspired, so impressed!!! Wow...... AMAZING!!
So inspiring to watch the class. It feels I am there! And you can learn so much just by watching them doing the class! Beatiful dancers all of them!
it's a great form of exercise for pregnant ladies. ballet is hard but very rewarding once you get steps right and start finding your own musicality within steps....love ballet :)
I admire all of them! Beautiful! Amazing! The extensions, the flexibility, technique, everything is incredibly well done! Congratulations to all!
So perfect!!! Perfect way of learning such a beautiful art. Such demands but in the end all sweat and tears pay off. Loved the teacher!!
Thank you so much for sharing this great class. I am so inspired and grateful
Am I the only one who watches these things and goes along with the class taking other people's correction?
Nope me too
I love ballet!!! This class was so inspirational! Glad that youtube allowed the entire class to be posted!
Absolutely amazing musicianship! The class is wonderful and the master teacher superb!
Can we all agree that male ballet dancers have the BEST legs??
Excelente clases, rapidez de los profesores y alumnos y excelente ejecución de la pianista...hermoso !
I love the simplicity of the choreography at the barre mixed with the intense meditative state of the mind over body. It becomes so natural, like breathing. So very lovely to watch. I can almost feel myself dancing again.
Hi Lacey,
Can we ask you a question? Have you ever tried using any online tools to help you learn ballet or to get fit? Would that sort of product be of interest?
I am about to eat and watch every second of this
"Are you just chilling this one out?" Hahaha
This was so much fun to watch, and the dudes are all sooooo attractive.
Cannot believe this video was filmed 11 years ago!!!!
Did anyone See The pregnant dancer???
Yess, i'm impressed!!
Mara Galeazzi
+Mariana N I was just about to say that!!
+VIXEN where?
yes thats mara galazzie
The BLACK GUY is phenomenal and amazing!! Cant stop looking him...
That's Eric Underwood. :) I want to know why he skipped out of class about 20 or so minutes before it was over...notice that you don't see him at all after a certain point. Getting some physical therapy, maybe?
What a fantastic video. Brings back a lot of memories, lot of pain, but a lifetime of happy memories.
I love the Royal Ballet... you can really feel the joy radiating from the dancers.
I want her to teach me! XD She's so fantastic and happy!
Love Valentino's dancing.
god I love the ballet. I could watch this all day :)
Amazing! Amazing! Amazing! I have watched more than 20 times!
How do they pick up on the combinations so fast?! It takes me at least 3 tries. I feel incompetent.
Jessy , the teacher probably does very similar combos each day they have her.
Prsctice, that's how.
7:03 .... pregnant lady, you have officially earned my utter most respect.
I could watch this the whole day, such amazing dancers! I love ballet and it's beautiful to see the dedication and beauty of these dancers, i really hope to achieve such a high level in ballet soon.
I love how so many people are interested in what an actual ballet class is like...over 2 million views!
Mom: Is that one dancer in the gray pregnant? How Did She Find Time To Get Pregnant?????
Me: Miracles happen all the time mom
😅
I was surprised at how nice the mistress was.
I LOVE this video soooo much! It is beautiful and amazing!
Hi Emma,
Can we ask you a question? Have you ever tried using any online tools to help you learn ballet?
Once I got into dancing as an adult I noticed that every single ballet teacher I had didn't wear ballet slippers. They would always wear something other than ballet slippers. Socks only, varieties of jazz shoes, street shoes, bare feet but no ballet slippers of any kind. And now I see it's the same at The Royal Opera House.
This is amazing. I live in a country in South East Asia.. we don't have amazing classes like this... We don't even have a Ballet company in my country. Please let me know if you have more vdos like this so I can practice with it. I hope I will be as good as your dancers one day. Thank you so much for making this vdo!!!
I really recommend doing Kathryn Morgan she’s an excellent teacher you’ll progress so much with her!
