As a long time Canucks fan, I'm not thrilled with the idea of Vegas winning the Cup in their 6th year. I actually don't like them but I am reluctantly having to face up to the fact that they're good. And I hate conceding that, but I can't live in denial any longer. I truly felt after Florida beat Carolina in game one that they were a team of destiny. Beating the heavily favored Bruins and then going 8 and 1 in the next 2 series was enough evidence for me to say they'd win the Cup. Vegas probably has the best D in the league and D is more important in the playoffs than O. But it is very fortunate that they suddenly get an inexperienced goalie playing lights out. And the strangest thing : Vegas owner predicting a championship by their sixth season. How weird is that! And with a championship Vegas will overtake Philadelphia as the youngest ever franchise to win. Philly did it in their 7th year, but Vegas will do it in 6. And the truth is that I kind of wanted Florida to take it so now I probably won't watch unless the Cats make a miracle recovery. But those scorelines make that idea appear unlikely. Thanks R & D! You two are the best in the biz! With all due respect to Elliot and Malik who are also good, but not quite as good. 😉
11:15 is important for folks to hear. I think some have a hard time appreciating the nuance of checking as a means of pressuring the puck and/or puck carrier, and not just as kind of a lazy synonym for hitting. The checking player is allowed to choose whether to attack the puck or to body check. If the offensive player who already has possession instead makes that choice for them by throwing a hit of their own, that's interference. So interference has become normalized in the game to an extent. Understandable, at speed it can be hard to tell who initiated contact. It becomes dangerous though, when the "reverse-hits" are so huge that they become essentially an enormous hit to a player that has no obligation to expect that its coming.
Most “reverse hits” occur when the hit initiated by the defender is well underway. Rarely are these hits delivered to unsuspecting defenders. It is essentially a counterattack.
@@kftc1980 Yes exactly, those are not usually dangerous because both players are playing the body at the same time, they're both expecting the contact. The dangerous ones are when the checking player is trying to either make a play on the puck, or skate up-ice toward their defensive zone, both of which they are allowed to do without being interfered with. But the line does begin to blur, especially in the speed of the game.

There are both timing factors, and also I guess what you would call level of force. We don’t really want rules that discourage players like Forsberg and Barbashev who just happen to be incredibly strong, and have the presence of mind to make it plays like that. Reverse hitting has its place on football (Walter Payton), I think it has a similar place in hockey. Maybe the interference rule just needs a little more tweaking. “When in the commission of a hit on the puck carrier, both the hitter and puck carrier are eligible to be hit.”
