    Hey Cara. Thanks for the tips. I think I'm going to add this one to my JET playlist.
    I always enjoy seeing your videos!

    Love the tips! I'm planning to apply this year and it puts my mind a little more at ease that most of the tips you suggest I am already doing / have! My Only problem would be the SOP and how to translate that into a good 'story' about myself >.

      ah! Thanks for the link! Just watched it and it has given me a lot to think about as I am a more "mature" applicant with non-teaching experience, so I want to make sure I can reflect this within the PS. Guess I'll start writing it soon while I also hunt for my 2 references

    Yay! New video!!! Well, I'd say it's a bit late for this year's application process ;) but watching it while I'm waiting to hear from the Embassy is actually quite comforting... Somehow... Thank you for your videos! And, f you want to talk about how competitive the application might be, let's talk about France please: we have 1 spot this year and I can tell you that waiting until June to hear the final answer is killing me! Can't wait to watch your new videos! :D

    Oh hey a new video! Thank you for making these videos, they are so helpful (I just found your channel a couple of days ago)! And you seem like a really lovely person too! I'm still at university in Australia (majoring in Japanese Language, although I've only been learning for about a year and a bit now) so I'm a while off applying, but I really do want to. I do have one question! How competitive do you think it would be to apply in Brisbane? Totally fine if you don't know of course!

    • @Caradventures
      @Caradventures  6 лет назад

      Heya! Welcome to my channel :)
      I think Brisbane won't be too difficult! Sydney and Melbourne are the most competitive I'd say... Plus you're majoring in Japanese language I think you have a good chance. But of course, it still depends on your statement of purpose and other experiences!

    Love these tips!!!! Been following your videos on JET for a while and I want to say thanks. By the way, how long does the SOP have to be. I know what to put in on paper about how I started learning Japanese in middle school and how my love for the culture and through Japanese From Zero by author George Trombley really motivated me to speak intermediate and conversational Japanese. Other reasons as well that would help my SOP be great. What you think for my SOP? Also, what kind of Volunteering should I do because I only got two years for my Bachelors so I want to make sure that I do as much as possible so that by the time I apply for the program, I'll already have done so many things and participated enough to have a strong application to go alongside with the SOP and the qualifications of course.
    I would be applying from New York!! Please any helpful info and advice from you would be really grateful!! I've learned a lot from you and I want to apply for the program after my Bachelors and I would like to stay in Japan for the maximum 5 years that they allow. How was the whole application process like?

      @Caradventures  6 лет назад

      Hey, I think this video I made on writing the SOP will answer your questions: ruclips.net/video/O4kl99ELc7w/видео.html
      And for volunteering, like I said in this video, it'd be great if they were Japanese or teaching-related. I'm sure there are many opportunities where you can volunteer teaching at an elementary school or something like that in your city.
      Good luck! The process wasn't that difficult for me I don't think. Just be confident and you'll be fine!

    Hey Cara been a while since I last commented on one of your videos, I really like the advice you gave in this video, I managed to get an interview for the 2018 intake however due to an oversight admin error I was sent the wrong email saying I was in JET when I wasn't, had someone from the consulate ring me the next day and break the bad news, I was really bummed however in September I will be flying to Tokyo for ten days so that will help me in writing my revised sop

    • @Caradventures
      @Caradventures  6 лет назад +2

      Omg that's the worst error they can make -_- I'm so sorry to hear that Hydra!!!!!!!! You've always been so keen for JET. I hope your trip in Tokyo will give you more insight about Japan though and help you reapply. Let me know if you need any help!

      Caradventures Thanks for your kind words Cara I still don't understand why this happened, I did well at the interview plus I have previous teaching experience and a TESOL certificate don't know why I wasn't selected or taken off the list, yes I will be reapplying in October I'm hoping my trip in September will help my sop stand out I'll send you a draft when I get around to writing it, thanks again for brightening my day! :)

    Hey Cara, I just recently started watching your videos and I've enjoyed them. I had question which I'm not has been addressed. I understand that during the time that school is in, you teach. But what about when they have their breaks? Such as summer break. What is it that you do in the mean time? Preparation for the when school starts again?

    • @Caradventures
      @Caradventures  6 лет назад +1

      You still have to go to school during school breaks and honestly, there's nothing to do most of the time!!! For my town, we run an English camp each summer so you can prepare for that, or study Japanese, read online news, or like me, write for websites. Haha, gotta find a way or two to kill time!

    Hey Cara I've been watching your videos for about a year since I first became interested in JET, and I applied and was accepted this past round but unfortunately wasn't able to accept due to family related circumstances. I'm now looking at applying again next year, so I was wondering if you knew anyone in a similar position or if you had any tips about that. I assume I need a new SOP and am considering getting a TEFL/TESL to boost my chances since I already was accepted without, maybe they'll want something more a second time?

    • @Caradventures
      @Caradventures  6 лет назад +1

      Did you mean if I knew anyone who applied for a second time? Yes--in fact, many got in after their 2nd or even 3rd try! If JET knew that you weren't able to accept due to family-related circumstances then you should be okay without a TEFL... But of course, having it won't harm! I think just being honest about your past situation and reminding them about your interest about coming to Japan would be enough. They already liked you!

    • @moeyday
      @moeyday 6 лет назад

      Caradventures thank you for responding! Yes I'm just afraid they won't want me to submit the exact same application and they'd maybe want to make sure I was still doing things in preparation for it! For example, if I had the same people write my letters of recommendation I wasn't sure if that would seem like I haven't been doing anything in the year that elapsed lol

    • @Caradventures
      @Caradventures  6 лет назад

      Ah that's tricky. I guess the same people would be okay, but maybe have them write a different LOC with regards to what you're going to do in the next year? A new SoP with more depth would be beneficial too for the same reason!

    Would being fluent in Japanese dramatically increase my chances of getting in?

    • @tsunderesama9967
      @tsunderesama9967 6 лет назад

      Oh well, I think I still want to become fluent before signing up for JET, I have about six years before I plan on going and when I get there I can probably fake my fluency to make it look like I know basic phrases and can kind of understand what they ask during the bonus round. Or what do you think?

    • @juandenz2008
      @juandenz2008 6 лет назад

      +Tsundere Sama . I wouldn't over think the issue too much. I certainly wouldn't fake being bad at Japanese if you are actually quite good, that would be stupid ! In my opinion knowing some Japanese probably helps, as does a commitment to improving, but being an expert may not help or hinder your application that much unless of course you want to be a CIR. In my opinion they are looking for friendly, well rounded and adaptable people. Coming across as some sort of Japanese language nerd or weeaboo would be bad.

      It can help dramatically depending on the position(s). Watch Cara's video "JET Paid Me to PLAYYY!" (approx. 4 months ago). She went to a JET-sponsored program that was attended almost exclusively by high-fluency JET people. She said that what saved her was her ability to read Kanji very well. Not all JET positions are ALT (English teaching jobs). The non-ALT jobs are for people with high fluency. I think the non-ALT jobs also pay better, because you actually work at a company, not a school. Even if you go for the ALT job also, market you skill to your advantage. For example, many of the negative comments (seen on RUclips) about JET program ALT jobs is the loneliness at work and in everyday life. So, at the interview, tell them that your Japanese fluency will allow you to be more interactive with your coworkers and community in Japan. I haven't yet applied to JET. I've just been trying to research about it over the last year or so. If you have citizenship with Japan and somewhere else, I think you have to give up your Japanese citizenship before applying to JET. 頑張って。
