Yaki udon! I love yaki udon and soba, I used to get some at a local restaurant all the time when I studied in Osaka. Even the yaki soba in konbini is delicious~
Awwww...so cuuuteee. You remind my me of my high school life in Japan. Just a remark: most of us (students) usually stay silent when the foreign English teacher asks questions. But the foreign teacher was superccool like you :)
Hey! Haha yea I noticed that Japanese students don't talk very much! But I think my students have been affected by my genki now... they are very active in my classes :D
Can you give an update on some things you learned? Maybe some advice on things you that no matter how many videos you watched or how much you tried to prepare you didnt learn until you got to Japan? Some things the videos like this never taught you, etc.?
I'm moving to Fukushima next month and gaaaaaah I am so excited but so nervous!! I watched this video maybe like 2 years ago when preparing for my interview and now I'm back for revision haha
I love the energy of this video. Videos like this are awesome for me. I eat up any video like this I can find, as it gives me a wider understanding of what I am getting myself in to. Your videos always bring a smile to my face. I find myself looking forward to watch and every one. Depending on how long you are in Japan for, I'd like to get the chance to introduce myself to you when I finally get there
Congratulations on hitting 1000 subs, and thank you Cara! This is really helpful for me as an incoming JET! You have great energy and I look forward to your future videos :D
Cara, you're amazing, thank you for doing such a thorough video on your intro lesson!! That's so helpful!! And congrats on your subscribers! You've more than earned it
You're always so sweet, Desirae! Good luck on making yours, and let me know if you have any questions! And can't thank you enough for the continued support hehe. Hope to meet you one day in Japan!
Caradventures haha, thank you! I've never prepared an entire presentation about myself, so it'll be interesting! And YOU'RE so sweet! 😊🌸 I'm definitely looking forward to meeting you and hanging out sometime! ✨
Yea it's a weird thing to do for a lot of us ALTs LOL so you're not alone :P It's never too early to start thinking about how you'd like to do your self-intro though so ;) Have fun!
Caradventures will do! I'm even more pumped for it after watching your video! I'm not so worried about it after having such an awesome example to refer to 😉
This was great! You look like such a fun ALT ^^ I know you're municipal, but I'm going to be a SHS JET. Do you think this style will still work for the older students? I've only ever worked with kids, so I'm quite nervous!
Hi Kristen! Hmm good question. I guess for high school students you could use more complex sentences and tell them a little bit more about yourself than just the background stuff. That said, I think that students would always enjoy an energetic ALT so keep your energy up! And pictures are never a bad idea--they would help your students get a much better idea on what you're talking about, even if they have good English ability!!! Hope this helps, and thanks for your support for my channel as always! :)
OMG!!!! I looooooove your accent! Do you remember when I commented on one of your videos where you watched Ohno Satoshi's drama? Hahahah! This year, I finally decided to apply for the JET Program. I just watched your video for writing the SoP before this video. Kyaaaaaaaa I'm so nervous about my essay but I finished it in 3 hrs after watching your video! I hope everything goes well and take caaaaare!
Love this! I was watching a lot of your videos yesterday and it made me really think if I even want to do this because I dont think I can teach for anything! I thought it be like the alt we had at my high school. We had an alt from japan every year but they didn’t teach. They simply assisted the teachers and help;ed the students if they ask.
You can definitely step up and teach! Work with your JTE teacher to see if you can do some of it. It's a great learning experience to know how to teach and make people listen to you :)
lol yaki udon is your favorite food! Thank you for the video! It is really helpful. :) How long are the classroom introductions usually? Does it depend on the ALT? Could you make a video on how you present a regular lesson in your classroom?
Glad to hear that you find this helpful, Alyssandra! A lesson usually goes for 45-50 minutes (depending on the school schedule) and you may be allocated as short as 10 minutes to as long as the whole class for your introduction, so be flexible! And, yes I'll think about how to do that!!!! (I can't film at school, but I'll work on that XD)
Thank you! This video was very helpful! What kind of game did you use for the Elementary Self intro! I have a few 1st and 2nd graders, I don't want to make something that is too difficult! :D
Hey Cara, this is a super helpful video for an incoming JET so thank you. I wanna ask though, was this self-intro aimed for SHS or JHS? I'm worried about how much my JHS students will understand even if I tried to make my intro basic and interactive like this.
Hi Erica! This is for JHS. Actually I use the same pictures for EMS but much simpler language. But like I said, don't worry about your students not understanding! Your Japanese teacher will probs jump in and help translate if he/she thinks that what you're saying is too difficult for the students to understand :)
yes! ive been waiting for these... thank you. btw I love nodame cantabile also both anime and the live action. question, did you provide the pictures? what I mean is, is it your expense to print those and laminated it? And how much time was given to you for your intro?. thanks a lot cara. and congrats for having 1k subs.
YASSSSS nodame cantabile!!! Gosh such an oldie but such a goldie! For my pictures I just used the school's printer and laminator haha you shouldn't have to pay out of pocket for those, since they're for lessons :) For my intro I was given the whole class (45-50minutes) to do it, but sometimes in elementary school I only have 10-15 minutes so I just don't do the worksheet! Gotta be real flexible about that! Hope this helps, stay connected! xx
Hi Cara, This was a great video on self introductions! I really like the energy here too. I look forward to doing it myself when I get to Japan. Keep it up. :)
lol wow what a trick question for the sibilings question, and I also love chicken wings!! Also a quick question, what is the reason you used the verb tomoshimasu instead of desu when you first entered the room? And nice video, really helpful hehe
Both are fine! Tomoshimasu is just more formal haha but I don't think your coworkers would care too much since we're not Japanese and aren't expected to use keigo as well as they are! Glad to hear that my video helped!! Good luck :)
Hey Cara! Question for you, do any other ALTs that you've meet or run into have tattoos? Do they cover them up everyday, are schools okay with it, or do people generally not get hired who have tattoos?
I'm trying to decide between doing something like this or making a self introduction video... Or maybe both? Do you know anyone who has used a video effectively? PS this is suuuuuper helpful, as always :)!!!!
You can certainly do both! Like I said, taking a video of your hometown is going to be real interesting to your students (or anything that you can't take after you arrive in Japan). I'd say at least do a mini wrap-up or conclusion to the video cos it wouldn't be super engaging if the students are just watching a TV screen, you know? It's much more valuable to have you talk and interact with them in my opinion! Good luck!
Watching this before my JET interview later this week and now I'm nervous, I know this video is from 3 years ago but I hope you see this, how long did it take for you to become confident as an ALT or was it pretty easy for you to pick it up and start?
Hey there! I prepared everything at school so I wouldn't worry too much about having it completed before arriving in Japan. Like I said, though, try to take pictures or videos of your hometown and with your family and friends to let your students get to know you on a more personal level! THAT you can't prepare after you arrive in Japan so :P Good luck!
Hey Cara, just a follow up question. Did you print your pictures in Japan cause I think it's a swell idea! Incoming JET myself and your videos are very helpful! ^^
Yep I did everything in Japan. I have my pictures saved in google drive/facebook though so if you'd like to print your pics when you're in Japan, prepare them in advance! Thanks for your support for my channel hehe I hope you stay connected! :) x
Sensei! Always sensei. They may call you ~san, but since most teachers are likely older than you, ~sensei is safer than ~san. Just more respect for them haha :)
Yea I try to not speak Japanese as much as possible in class! If the students don't understand what you're asking, your JTE is most likely going to translate for them so that shouldn't be a problem.
I secretly acted as your students and answered your questions :p
HAHAHAH sooo.... WHAT'S MY FAVORITE FOOD??????
Yaki udon! I love yaki udon and soba, I used to get some at a local restaurant all the time when I studied in Osaka. Even the yaki soba in konbini is delicious~
Yaki Udon!
I actually followed the video time rofl
dude I know right??? Yakiudon is literally the thing that I can eat every day yet still don't get sick of LOL
You shall receive a sticker from me ;)
I wish I could be as happy and upbeat as you always seem to be.
coming back to this video a week out before I have my first lesson. Thank you Cara
This is really helpful! I'm coming to Japan as JET ALT in August. Thank you very much! :)
I won't be able to apply for two years, but I really appreciate that you've made these videos!!

I definitely will I'm so nervous haha xD
How is it going so far?
probably busy af but how is it? i wanna try teaching in japan next year but im nervous lol
Can you give an update on some things you learned? Maybe some advice on things you that no matter how many videos you watched or how much you tried to prepare you didnt learn until you got to Japan? Some things the videos like this never taught you, etc.?
Thank you soo much Cara! I really Appreciate your effort! Great Work!
Thank you for such kind words Sanath!!
This is really helping me have an idea of what to do in a months time! thank you :)
Your student are really lucky to have you as an ALT haha I would enjoy your classes so much! And omg you like Tamaki~~~
Aw thanks for the compliment Jouci! I hope they enjoy my classes too XD
Do you like Tamaki too?????????
I'm moving to Fukushima next month and gaaaaaah I am so excited but so nervous!! I watched this video maybe like 2 years ago when preparing for my interview and now I'm back for revision haha
How was your experience on the program? I hope it went well!!
Such a wonderful example! As an Aussie incoming to Okayama Prefectural JET for 2017 this has given me tons of great ideas! Thank you!
Yay I'm happy to be able to help! Where in Aussie are you from??
Radelaide! So excited to get over there, this last month is crawling!
I admire your jolly personality! :)
I smiled through the whole video omg I think all the kids sure enjoys your fun lessons!!
Aw I hope they do too!!!! I try to make my classes as fun as they can be cos man, I don't wanna be bored in my own lessons LOL
Thanks Cara i'm leaving for Japan in 3 weeks and I am pretty nervous !! Awesome energy, thank youuuuu !!
How is it going for you? :D
I love the energy of this video. Videos like this are awesome for me. I eat up any video like this I can find, as it gives me a wider understanding of what I am getting myself in to.

Aw thanks for the compliment! I hope we can meet one day too :) Good luck!
Really helpful and insightful, thank you! I'm departing in 3 days to Tokyo for the Jet orientations! Super excited but hella nervous!! >o
Good luck!!!!! You'll have a blast in Japan!
I like your presentation, it is so detailed and interesting
Congratulations on hitting 1000 subs, and thank you Cara! This is really helpful for me as an incoming JET! You have great energy and I look forward to your future videos :D
Really happy to hear that you're enjoying what I do! Let me know if you want to see anything from my channel :) Good luck on your JET journey!
Cara, you're amazing, thank you for doing such a thorough video on your intro lesson!! That's so helpful!! And congrats on your subscribers! You've more than earned it

This was so helpful, I really got into it!! Keep up the good work, I hope my self introduction could be anywhere near that good
Thanks for the compliment! Let me know if you have any questions!!!
I had so much fun listening to your presentation !
Aw thanks Samme! Letting my audience have fun is my biggest goal :D
This was great! You look like such a fun ALT ^^ I know you're municipal, but I'm going to be a SHS JET. Do you think this style will still work for the older students? I've only ever worked with kids, so I'm quite nervous!
Also I'm very excited for your next video!
Hi Kristen!
Hmm good question. I guess for high school students you could use more complex sentences and tell them a little bit more about yourself than just the background stuff. Great video, Cara! Keep up the good work!
Thank you, I will!!!
This intro lesson makes me want to join the JET Program more
haha you're super adorable when you're "talking to" the kids.
soooo I'm not adorable when I'm talking to adults? D:
you are ;-;
OMG!!!! I looooooove your accent! Do you remember when I commented on one of your videos where you watched Ohno Satoshi's drama? Hahahah! This year, I finally decided to apply for the JET Program. Hahahaha thank you Heidi!! Hope you make it in this year. Japan will be a blast!
your videos are very helpful, as always.
also the background music is very catchy hahahah
Thank you for liking what I do!
And HAHA I put serious consideration on my BGM choice ;) (Only if I could have BGM in an actual class tho...)
It was very helpful!
I love Nodame Cantabile!!
me too💕
Good stuff. Your light's pull cord needs work, but your teaching does not! Favorite Food... Kangaroo?
James I swear you always notice the weird things in the background!!!!
And yea why not, kangaroo is yum............. o_O
Love this! I was watching a lot of your videos yesterday and it made me really think if I even want to do this because I dont think I can teach for anything! Ohhh what's the 水 kanji poster in the back called? I wanna buy that decoration!
lol yaki udon is your favorite food!
Thank you for the video! It is really helpful. :)

Lots of junken would be great for 1st and 2nd graders!

Hi Cara,
This was a great video on self introductions! I really like the energy here too. I look forward to doing it myself when I get to Japan. Keep it up. :)
Glad you liked it! Let me know if you have any questions :)
Grats on 1k :)
Thanks for your continued support, my dear neighbor ;)
lol wow what a trick question for the sibilings question, and I also love chicken wings!! Also a quick question, what is the reason you used the verb tomoshimasu instead of desu when you first entered the room? And nice video, really helpful hehe

Glad to hear that my video helped!! Good luck :)
Caradventures Oh okay thanks! I still have long ways to go for being an ALT but it's still helpful to know beforehand, thanks again (:
No problem, let me know if you have any questions along the way!
Hey Cara! Question for you, do any other ALTs that you've meet or run into have tattoos? Do they cover them up everyday, are schools okay with it, or do people generally not get hired who have tattoos?
I do know people who have tattooes! You just have to cover them at all times. And fill out a form when you apply to the JET Program.
Hello. After you introduced yourself, did you also let the students introduce themselves? Can you give us an idea how? Thank you so much
LOL this is amazing.
Hello love! May I just ask, will another jet always be with you translating words in japanese language? Hope you can reply. Thank you!!
Not other JETs, but there'll be a Japanese teacher there with you al the time!
I'm trying to decide between doing something like this or making a self introduction video... Or maybe both? Do you know anyone who has used a video effectively? PS this is suuuuuper helpful, as always :)!!!!

Right, that's what I'm thinking too. Thank youuuuu!
is that a guitar case?? if so did u bring from home?
Yep I did
@@Caradventures I'ma do the same! Thnx
Watching this before my JET interview later this week and now I'm nervous, I know this video is from 3 years ago but I hope you see this, how long did it take for you to become confident as an ALT or was it pretty easy for you to pick it up and start?
How did you interview go?
want to know the name of your background music
this video is awesome :)
I'm actually learning alot about Australia
Do you get time to work on this once you arrive in Japan? Or are you expected to have this pretty much completed before you arrive?
Hey there! I prepared everything at school so I wouldn't worry too much about having it completed before arriving in Japan. Like I said, though, try to take pictures or videos of your hometown and with your family and friends to let your students get to know you on a more personal level! TOE-MAH-TOE SAUCE🤩
I love to swim too, but butterfly is way too tough for me XD
Are you Kim.... as in, Nessa's friend Kim?!?!?!?!?!?!?
(ignore me if you're not; sorry for being weird XD)
yup XD
dawww thanks for checking out my channel!!! XD
Caradventures :D
How do you address the JTE? Would you call them せんせい or 〜さん?
Sensei! Always sensei. They may call you ~san, but since most teachers are likely older than you, ~sensei is safer than ~san. Just more respect for them haha :)
Caradventures Thank you! I love your videos!
How come you spoke Japanese?
I could've not used any, but the words I used would grab students' attention better!
Iluv u
u asked questions in English ??
Yea I try to not speak Japanese as much as possible in class! If the students don't understand what you're asking, your JTE is most likely going to translate for them so that shouldn't be a problem.
great :) thanks senpai :P
You're really beautiful. You're my type.
What you spoke is Cantonese dailect not Chinese
Great energy! You are so interesting!
