I think you really captured some of his sounds and did a great job explaining. And now that i listened to you breaking down his techniques, songs sound clearer to me. Btw listen him play 19. Jam at the end jam of 2006 chorzow consert. You can really hear the techniques you talked about!!
And John Frusciante is probably in my top favorite guitar players, too. He's truly incredible. It's a shame he's switched gears to electronic music since then. He's not nearly as good at that as he is at guitar.
I reckon he so thoroughly found his voice with guitar - think about how amazing niandra lades is with just a clasical guitar and a tape recorder - that there wasn't any further to go. So a new medium had to call. I can;t blame him for quitting RHCP because for him that journey had gone as far as it could go.

What comes naturally to me playing is nothing like John but i love his playing and wish i had more of his vibe when i play. He's a phenomenal and original player. His solo in Dani California is amazing.
It's pretty good for me to revisit his style. I was in a freaking mood of playing, kinda his way, in 2014-2017.But after a long break and many downs in life, including hearing loss gettin' worse, I choose to came back to understand this style again. out of the bunch of "Frusciante's guitar style" videos I found this to be the most practical and helpful so far! Thanks a lot, it's inspiring and very well explained in my opinion.
Dave Simpson literally goes over the theory John uses, the tone, the way scar tissue is made and how you can make a scar tissue like song, he teaches you how to come up with embellishments for the songs and how to solo the music, is it "practical" maybe not but it certainly improved my playing and my ability to make music by miles

The obvious suggestion after a Frusciante video is to make one on the techniques of his supposedly favourite guitarist (that virtually no one knows of or cares about!), Vini Reilly of The Durutti Column.
I can understand that using thumb and middle finger is easier to play. But pick is the key to get the tone of Scar Tissue. In the riff you can hear something like gnawing. That’s because his uses the pick to hit the two strings amid (muted). Also, don’t strum it hard, do it mildly, just like quickly going through an arpeggio. Then you ll get the magic scar tissue tone: clean yet dirty, warm yet despair. Also, Frusciante never does hybrid picking. It’s just stupid: your pick hits the low string and your finger hits the high string, which makes the low F sounds louder
The-Art-of-Guitar thanks for responding I want to ask you something I started when 12 now I am nearly 14 and I can play ok by that I mean I can play hard riffs and some solos but I am not than good with making my own stuff that might be because I don't know much music theory do you have any advice.

Just saying, on the third intervals, I learnt it explained that it was the root and the note that determines if it's major or minor on the regular chord shape

John always said that he used to mute strings with his left hand so he wouldn't bother being precise with his right hand : Just look at Can't Stop for example, loads of strumming with some massive attack and that left hand mute to compensate for the lack of accuracy

And if you learn the techniques of Page and Hendrix you’re really learning an appetizer of BB King, Elmore James, and John Mayall mixed in with psychodelia and hard rock. Everyone had hero’s, it’s making it your own that forms your technique.
Can't stop is a great example of the muting strings thing. Lots of people try to play that song playing only the strings woth the notes, and it sounds like ass. Play all thr strings and mute the ones that don't have the notes, and it becomes a great riff.
Finger strength, practicing vibrato and bends, pentatonic knowledge (it's such a basic scale/pattern that it's almost instinctive when you've been playing for a couple of years). So basically just normal guitar experience/practice lol.

8 hours a day? damn don't your hands hurt playing that long? do you do any hand stretches or any strengthening exercises?
Obviously you can't start practicing 8 hours a day off the bat, but as your hands get stronger then you can definitely build up to it.
