One added tip that KVD didn't mention is to remove tail feather hook before storing other wise it gets messed up and won't act right in the water.

Running hot water over the feathers will help revive them

Man I would love to go fishing in my lake behind the house, only problem fwc sprayed it until the grass is gone and low oxygen so our bass have died off its a horrible problem.
