A bit about me:
Not your average bloke in camo..
Hello! I’m Ellie, English female detectorist, beachcomber, mudlark and artist. 🇬🇧 Follow my searching journey metal detecting the UK countryside and shoreline, as I learn about British history through objects.
Have I found any treasure? Well - I’ve really been putting in the time, and in my first year of detecting I have collected Roman artefacts, old gold, hammered coins and medieval finds. But the REAL treasure is in the stories each object tells about people and places. Sometimes it’s the mystery objects that I love best - cracking the code of time with plenty of help from my team of trusty subscribers!
Miss D.

The hobby of metal detecting is really great when it makes you happy and it shows on your face. Congratulations. I'm already waiting for your next video.
It’s coming it’s coming! Later today - and I can’t wait for you to see what else I found on that land! 🤍🤍🤍
I love the way you speak to us all watching your videos. That was a clear coin you found. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you that’s nice to hear 😊
Great coin & pottery 💥💥💥💥💥 Just Brilliant 👍👍 Cheers from Mississippi 🇬🇧🇺🇸
Thank you for watching my U.K. adventures!! 😊
What an amazing location to be able to detect. I'm envious we don't have the same history in our country! G'day from Australia!
I’m so glad you’re watching from so far away! 😊
I was out in weather like that a few weeks ago and was about to give up after 2 hours and nothing but rubbish, then dug a beautiful Henry II penny in super condition from the quagmire, it made battling the mud and rain all worth it!
Sometimes the rain brings good things and at the very least it’s a bit of fresh air! 😊
Wow, what a determination, detecting in such brutal weather. Congrats on the beautiful Roman coin. 👍👍
Thanks it’s a lovely coin - I actually love big weather! I had a three day opportunity and I grabbed it rain or no rain! Check the next vid to see the REALLY good finds! Loading shortly…
Greetings from Canada! That site's going to produce well. Keep at it and you'll be rewarded! ps: I bet you'll top 1K subscribers soon...
Not long I don’t reckon! Seems to be racking up quite fast doesn’t it! Thanks for watching and yes I agree what a top permission!!!!! Next part loading in an hour or so! So good!!!!!!
Well done cracking on in that. I’m still waiting for my first Roman coin. Another enjoyable watch, thank you 👍
I’m excited for you to find your first one! Maybe in 2024 🤞 😊
we all like a bit of roman ..well done for getting stuck into it
Haha yep I’m very excited about Roman stuff - especially as I originally come from Bath!
Shared you out .. congrats on being over the 500 mark ... let's get you to the next milestone of 1k ✌👵
Thanks for the share that's so good of you! Yes 1k here we come!
Very wet and very muddy you were! Your dedication to this hobby is total! You are definitely hooked... Your astonished round eyes tell the tale. Nice little roman coin and shards of pottery. A good George the 5th penny too with a lovely patina. About shot gun shells, as they are really annoying, you can notch the signal on your Deus 2 for the detector to ignore most of them (they usually sound at around 57 on mine - hope you could determine the value to notch on yours). Thank you for sharing with us.
Thanks so much for the tips! I was looking at the numbers - all the shotties were different 😩 plus, some of the Roman coins come up similar … but one day, I’ll actually open the manual and have a read how to do that 🤪
Well done Ellie, love the way you get stuck in. Sometimes, the best feeling is getting out of the rain and warming up. I sensed that from your latest episode. Lovely button too. Have a great New Year.
Check the next one when I load it later. Bonkers finds! Absolutely made up! Worth the effort and drenching!
Theodora not that common of a coin, great find, super jealous of your hobby, down here in Oz, our coins don't go back that far, keep up the good work and a have happy new year
Happy new year to you! Thank you I need to look into that coin, planning a bit of a clean up today!
Wowee very impressive!! Well done on such a great permission! 🤙🏻🍀😊
Cheers! Check part 2 then 😂😳 crazy good finds! So so fun
Your videos, sheer gritty determination and smile always cheer me up and hope your ghostly Roman Centurion leads you to his hoard in 2024. The greyware rims are certainly Roman and love the Roman coin and hope you find many more
Thank you so much for your lovely words! I cannot wait for you to see the next part. On the subject of ghostly - I cropped out loads from this vid - there was a definite funny feel to one area. I then spotted an ‘orb’ in my film during the editing - have a look at my latest Shorts upload and see what you make of it - weird! There’s a part two to this vid dropping later today 🤍👍🏻
I saw your short video and I hope he leads you to the spot. I used to detect a field in Lincolnshire and it had a fair bit of Roman pottery and some nice coins but would often feel like you were not alone and I never stayed after dusk. @@miss_detectorist
@@dm51964 oh you think it’s a he! Ok! I thought maybe it was connected to my coin which had an empress on the face…
It could well be a lady and I hope she brings you luck@@miss_detectorist
@@dm51964 I hope whoever or whatever it is, it’s happy buzzing about the Westcountry 😂🤍🤍🤍
Well done Ellie top effort mate you put in and you got a brilliant reward
Now see what the next day kicked up in part 2 😃🤩✨✨✨✨✨✨ thanks for watching my vids 😊
Awesome! Your on it now can only get better😊
Sadly not my usual area! But yes I’m so excited to have this as an option for a few visits a year 😃
Wow.. very nice site, now planning on getting back out there,, your an inspiration 😊
Do it!!! The fresh air is a tonic. Later today I’ve got a ‘part two’ for you and if you weee inspired by that - just you wait 😮😮😮
Congrats on your Roman finds! I saw your channel from Grandma Kelly.
I'm so glad you found my channel - thank you Grandma Kelly for the share!
Wow well done with that amazing Roman coin great detail 👍🏻
Thank you!!! That was just the start! Check part two 😮😮😃
@@miss_detectorist watching it now Miss Ellie 👍🏻cheers to you and yours for the new year 🍻
@@ablettgone same to you! Have a good one! 😊
Congratulations that site looks very promising for next year. The pot shards look roman or later as early ones have a dog biscuit like compound.
Yes, black Samian ware or black burnished ware it looks like 👍🏻 really fun looking for the shards
@miss_detectorist it's looking like a 3rd century site unless you turn up earlier coins or red samion ware which would make it earlier
Nice video love keep finding them treasures🔥🔥
I will do my best 😊
Didn’t you notice the Saxon shotty ends you had there ? They’re the ones with the ring and dot pattern. 😂😂 But seriously, great find on the Roman. Well done. I loved finding those bits of pot while there also. A couple take pride of place in my display case. Cheers from Oz.
I love ceramic definitely keeping those! 😊
Grüße aus Österreich 😊
Hello and thank you for watching from Austria 😊
The pottery was certainly the star of the grim weather day until you found the Roman Coin. The slit windows of the ancient barn in the outro are very unusual and very neat like archery slots.
I believe they were for ventilation for the grain - it’s a stunning building - absolutely huge.
@@miss_detectorist
It just occurred to me that it almost certainly has a dirt floor and would be worth detecting if there is any space in it to walk.
Lovely to find roman coins,,if you ever find yourself on the norfolk coast ile take you on my roman/saxon fields finding 10 odd Romans in a couple of hours isn't uncommon 😊
Sounds absolutely A1 to me!
@miss_detectorist are you far from norfolk
@@tobysmith5776 imagine the furthest away 😂 But planning a road trip with some friends this year.
Thank you for braving the weather to make another interesting video the dark pot looks Roman. Looks like you have a good permission by the amount of pot on the ground. Happy new year Len
Len it’s fantastic wait till you see what I found in part two! 😮
Well done in them conditions
Haha cheers 😂 ☔️
Persistence always pays dividends 👏👏👏you deserve that cracking coin for carrying on through that weather 👏👏👏
Chuffed to bits with that - now watch part two 🤯
@@miss_detectorist I just have and wow👏👏👏👏
Hello, nice digging session 😃.
Is your spade the Nokta one ?
He is still straight.
My one is crooked.
Thin material..... Be careful
Regards from Germany 🐕
It is - mine is very good. Strong! Sorry to hear about your spade!!
Enjoyed your vid just subscribed
Great! Welcome. Did you see the part two?!
@@miss_detectorist yes so both enjoyed them thanks
Hi Ellie love your grit.i have never been fortunate to get a permission
I have recently purchased a house in Central loire in francaise, so I'm going to try and see if I can get a permission in francaise.
Good luck.peace nick
Hi Nick! Loire - beautiful! Im not sure how it works in France - is it true there are some complex rules around metal detecting? hope you can get your authorisation you need there! And hope you can find some wonderful things.:)
Great video! Is it demineralized water in your spray?
Yeah - I use deionised and distilled water in my spray 😊 if you watch part two of this video, I forgot my sprayer! I used a bit of saliva - gross - but I wanted to see the artefacts a bit - and saliva has no ill effects on bronze!
@@miss_detectorist thanks but… deionised water???
@@Outdoorandguitars yes… ‘Treated to remove most of the corrosive impurities present in untreated water’ I get it from the garage - what do you use?
@@miss_detectorist for now nothing special, I’m beginner. I’m looking for the right method to clean up my coins in the fields. Thanks for your precious advices 😉🙏
@@Outdoorandguitars I’m just about to post a vid about this!! Subscribe and set an alert. 👍🏻
Women after my own heart.. out in no matter what weather 😊
