    I used this formula for a recent two week trip. One week travelling around Italy and one week on a Mediterranean cruise. I packed five tops, four bottoms (including shorts, skort, and a skirt), three scarves, two dresses and one bathing suit. It all fit in a commuter style backpack. With the accessibility was good for everything from a city tour to formal night on the cruise. I was worried it wouldn’t be enough but it was perfect. I rinsed out three of the tops and I did pack underwear for every single day. I watched others struggle with large wheeled bags and was so thankful I went this route.

      I love hearing success stories like yours!! I always struggle with packing like a minimalist, but I'm getting better! Carrying your wardrobe in a backpack like you did must have felt so freeing! Especially when others are struggling to lug their big suitcases around.

    Carry-on only here for over 2 decades. Under the seat. Always learning and honing. Off to Poland in 4 days and packing 3 shirts, 3 vests, 2 pants, 3 undies, 1 bra, tech and toiletries in 2 small pouches. Also a grocery bag that folds into a small item. Small day bag that fits inside. Thx for all your tips. Makes me motivated to pack minimally. 👏🇦🇺

      It sounds like you have a lot you can teach me! I am super impressed that you're not only carry-on only, but pack under the seat. Thank you for the tips and inspiration as well. Have a great trip!✈️

    bundle packing! i think i read about it in Cosmo 25 years ago (of all places) and it has really served me well. I have been able to pack business suits for job interviews without any wrinkles. love it

      I love bundle packing too! I used to love Cosmo magazine back in the day, ha ha. I think I first saw bundle packing on an old episode of the Oprah show. Thanks so much for watching and happy travels!

    Ditch the hard shell luggage, expandable or not. And, depending on where you're going, ditch anything on wheels. Useless weight, protrusions, and "unstuffability"! BTW, 5'1" 65 y.o. female here. If you can't carry it, you don't need it!

    We are using a version of this for a trip to see family and the airline only includes a personal item. But for a beach vacation, 3 swimsuits are essential for our family. We swim in the morning and usually again at night. Then a dry 3rd bathing suit to start the next day. I’m not a fan of rewearing bottoms, especially in warm weather, but sometimes it’s necessary. I’m team packing cubes for carryon luggage!

      Packing 3 bathing suits for a beach vacation is smart! I hate putting on a wet suit, lol. Thanks for sharing. And I love packing cubes too!

    Good advice! I’m also a bundle packer. I’ve done 30 days in Europe in a carry on. Hand washing underwear and socks etc along the way. Did one load of laundry also. No checking in luggage and no worries about it getting lost either.

      Bundle packing is the best! You are a total travel rockstar, doing 30 days in a carry-on. I need to challenge myself to build up to a month with just one carry-on. Thanks for the inspiration!

      Bundle packing works well for a cruise or staying in one or two hotels. If you’re moving around more use packing cubes or kon marie folding.

    I love that you used the bundle method. So few do. I think it is the method that is the most wrinkle free.

      I personally notice less wrinkles when I use the bundle method, but I know a lot of people swear by rolling their garments. I guess whatever works for us and makes us happy is totally fine. Have a great day!

    Hi just found your channel. It peaked my interest when I saw a packing video, always on the look out for any packing suggestions. But I took a look at your shorts and found you have arthritis. I too am an arthritis sufferer from the UK. I have both hips right knee and right shoulder. And I’m trying to find exercises that will help me get my muscles stronger to help ease the pain. I would love to see some more of has helped you. Thank you for the inspiration 🌿

      I'm so sorry you're dealing with arthritis too. It's such an awful disease. Strengthening your muscles will definitely help you, not only to ease the pain, but also to increase your flexibility and mobility. I've made great progress in just a few months. Most of what I have learned is from Alyssa Kuhn who has the RUclips channel @ArthritisAdventures. She has tons of videos for all kinds of arthritis, including knees and hips. I've learned more from her than from my doctors and physical therapists. Good luck and I'm wishing you healing and lots of muscle strengthening!

    Brilliant ideas.
    What would you suggest fir a month away, all casual gear with plenty of walking, with temperatures expected between 3 degrees Celsius to 20 degrees Celsius please?

    • @ThriveAfter55
      @ThriveAfter55  4 дня назад +1

      For a month long trip definitely pick neutral pieces that will all coordinate with each other. If packing in a carry-on with the 54321 method, I'd plan on doing laundry once a week. Here's what I'd do: 5 tops (all breathable like athletic fabric or Merino wool, 2 long sleeve, 2 short sleeve for warmer days or layering, and 1 light sweater or hoodie). 4 bottoms (maybe 1 pair of jeans, a pair of leggings, and 2 pair of joggers or athletic-type pants like hiking pants). 3 outerwear pieces (a medium weight coat, a warm coat, and a waterproof jacket). 2 shoes - comfy sneakers and then a sturdy pair of shoes or boots, maybe waterproof or hiking style boots. For the singles, definitely include a hat and gloves, and then things like pajamas, underwear, maybe a small backpack in place of a purse, etc. I hope this helps! It sounds like you have a fun adventure planned. 😀

      Thanks - this has also helped me! I will be doing a coastal walk for 1 month in UK. I have tweaked what I had planned to bring (reduced it!) based on your suggestions. The only additional items I will bring are thermal layering pieces (2 vests and 2 thin long sleeved thermal base layers) - these I count as underwear!! Thank you - videos like this really do make a difference👏🤗

    How long a trip does this wardrobe last? 5 days?

    • @angelrosee73
      @angelrosee73 6 дней назад

      To really pack light you have to be okay with wearing bottoms 2-3 times and some tops if they are Merino wool can be worn 2-3x also because they don't hold bacteria & odors

    • @ThriveAfter55
      @ThriveAfter55  6 дней назад

      If you choose your pieces wisely (so that the tops go with all the bottoms, etc.) then you can easily travel for a week, possibly 2. Choosing fabrics that are easy care and can be washed out in a sink if you don't have access to laundry facilities. I hope this helps!

    You didn’t pack pajamas or any undergarments, socks… How often do you do laundry?

    • @ThriveAfter55
      @ThriveAfter55  6 дней назад

      I had pajamas on top of the bundle right before I started folding. I brought one pair of undies and socks for each day of the trip and those went in a small packing cube on the other side of the suitcase where I put my extra pair of shoes and cosmetics. This was just a one week trip and I had access to a washing machine. If I was traveling for a longer time frame I'd absolutely have to do laundry on the trip. Most of the pieces I brought are easy-care and can be washed out in a sink. I hope this helps!

      I find the bundle method only works if younare going to one destination. But if you are changing lodging daily ornevery couple days, then it is cumbersome as you have to unpack everything to get to one piece. Time consuming.
