  • I had permission to ride and film this elevator. By their request, the location will NOT be disclosed.
I'm not sure of the exact history of this elevator. This elevator would have most likely been gated originally, and the hoistway swing doors appear to be older replacements (very similar to 1950s-1970s swing doors found on hydraulic swing door elevators in northern California). The controller most likely has been replaced at least once (given that this elevator is not single speed), but it definitely seems to be an old relay logic controller.
Some of the fixtures (including the 1st floor hall station, and the car station) were replaced with Adams, but the basement hall station is still older. The basement hall station is labeled Pacific, though I don't think it is original, and Pacific may or may not be the original manufacturer.
Unfortunately, this elevator does have some issues. Once arriving at the basement level, the car door tried to close by itself, despite no one calling the elevator. They tried pulling/pushing the car stop switch to get the elevator to work correctly (this is what they were referring to by "resetting" the elevator), but the elevator was still acting up. For this reason, the video ends in the basement and I took the stairs back to the 1st floor after the video ends. I'm not sure if the elevator broke down completely or if it started working afterwards, but it definitely needs to be repaired. (this video was filmed over a year ago, so it may have since been fixed)
Fixtures: Adams Survivor, vintage Pacific hall stations on basement level and possibly some other floors
    Year installed: Circa 1907
    Date of recording: October 2022

It certainly is a winding dram elevator, I looked at the top of the hoist way as to the placement of the ropes, angled machine beam, sheaves and counterweight. Its very quiet in operation, likely a DC motor with a DC rectifier. This type of machine often has a chain linkage to the floor selector. The inner cab door bounce open/close might be a fault with the door open/close relays on the controller.
