    Ragu has been an all time favorite of mine growing up.
    The first time I had it I was probably 8 years old at my childhood friends house. His mother would make it on special occasions. This was a Viet version.
    Years later, I had the Lao version which I equally enjoy.
    In Laos, I normally see it served weddings.

      It’s so special when this is served and probably why it’s made for the weddings in Laos

    OMG I only have this dish at a Laos wedding or special occasion! It's like beef stew but more of a tomato base which is cool that there's spaghetti sauce named Ragu lol even though I think it's unrelated 😂

    Wow! I had no fricking clue that there was something like this in the Lao repertoire! So this was adapted from Italian cuisine long ago? Looks SO good... I sometimes add nam pla to my Italian ragu, so yes the umami boost to tomatoes is magical!

      We had ragout in the Cambodia of my childhood too (1960s and 1970s). Thanks for reminding me of it. In my family we made it with pork chops mostly and it was served with Maggi seasoning. I would just like to say that the addition of LSG is unnecessary as there is already MSG in commercial oyster sauce. Padek (what is it exactly?) is unknown in Cambodia so kapik may have been used in some households instead.

      @pelqel9893 4 месяца назад +1

      @@vickocambodia8349 I believe "prahok" is the Cambodian analogue for padaek? Padaek is made from cleaned fresh-water fish, salt, and usually a coarse powder of roasted rice, but sometimes rice bran or stink-bean and left in a closed vessel to age/ferment for some time (usually 1 year).

      Yes just let the beef slow cook in the pot until tender without the carrots, potatoes, and onions until you’re almost ready to eat and then put them the veggies in the pot an hour before serving.
