    Built the same thing 12 years ago. I put BB's in the canister.

    Nice new opener man! So I did this same thing a few years back as I too wanted to save some money. I think you are going to find as I did, that it just really does not work well. You can try to add some like scour pad in there for a media to catch the oil and keep it from sucking back out, but the design isnt really adequate for this. The oil for the most part will just flow right through it. Also, great points on the drain nipple because again, most people do not talk about it or address it. I had one with a valve and capped the tip and it still leaked from time to time. I think the design you got is a little better in that regard.
    Overall great video man. Just work on fixing that cropping man!

      Yea.. i figured it was worth a try.. if i catch a spoon full..thats still a spoon full that didnt go into the engine.. we shall see tho.
      The cropping i dont have a clue on..but i got a lot to work on. On my phone it doesnt look cropped tho..i also gotta work on keeping the camera more steady..

    Won an ebay auction for a Chinese copy of a ProVent 200, $19 landed.
    Has the stainless filter, which is reusable (I just spray it out with degreaser every filter change,) and more importantly it runs the blowby gasses through that filter, which removes a whole lot more oil than just letting some drop out. You've made a good DIY system that's better than nothing, but for the cost, I'd say it's more worth it in the long run to spend an extra $20 and get a can with baffled airflow and a proper filter. It doesn't have to be a name brand, cheap copies are fine, just get one that pushes those gasses through a filter.

    That's cool catch can. Does your car have excessive blow by? Hence all the oil. On my xterra when I unhook the pcv hose it has noticeable vapor coming out (smoke) and it's using more oil than it should. I want a catch can to catch that oil.

    • @TheModAddict
      @TheModAddict  3 года назад +1

      Mine doesn't have excessive..but any bit I can keep out of the intake the better. Mine usually have about 2 table spoons every 3-4 months when i check it

    You could put a mini 1/4 turn ball valve on the bottom.

      Yea..i should mount it and do that..but the way i have it in the groove of my valve cover it wouldnt fit.

    The line with no oil is your air in the Pcv line is your air out

    • @TheModAddict
      @TheModAddict  5 лет назад

      There is no "air in" its a vacuum.. the pcv has vacuum on it which leads to the intake

    Hi,
    Do you have any idea how much exactly this catch can increase the pcv pressure because the filter restricts the ventilation and shoud increase the pressure?

    • @TheModAddict
      @TheModAddict  2 года назад +1

      This is a blow thru design. There are not check balls sonit doesnt increase pressure.

  • @lenf2
    @lenf2 4 года назад +3

    Just curious, did you see any problems when you reduced the flow of the PCV to the intake from 3/8" to 1/4"? It would seem that a 50% reduction in the flow would increase the crankcase pressure by adding an increased restriction in the line?

    • @M91211
      @M91211 4 года назад

      I've done it before on a V8 and it was like hell, the engine wasn't responding quickly and you can hear the engine struggling to breath and you will hear a high vacuum sounds coming from the hoses and the catch can that if the hoses didn't collapsed on you :)
      So just don't do it try something with the same hose size

    • @TheModAddict
      @TheModAddict  4 года назад +1

      I havent had a single issue. Car is still very responsive especially for 23yrs old.. no noises or struggling.

    • @lenf2
      @lenf2 4 года назад +2

      @@M91211 Yeah, I kept the 3/8" all around because I suspected that would happen. But I ran into another problem when I put a catch can on the air intake side going to the valve cover. I made the mistake of placing a check valve between the catch can and the breather tube (to stop oil from being drawn back from the can to the intake) and found that the air goes BOTH ways in that tube (duh) so instead I capped the line coming from the breather to the catch can and plugged in an after market filter on the air side of the can. Now the problem is gone. Moral of the story - don't use a check valve on the air intake side.

    The material for the plastic is not heat resistant ,that could be a problem

      It would go between the valve cover tube if it has one and the a line that leads from intake tube.
