Hey! There’s a possibility I’ll do a full breakdown on the character later, but this video was made in an afternoon as a little summative thing on the project. When I first got into 3D character art my personal biggest pain points were the initial model and rigging the character. I’d suggest looking into a basic video on sculpting in Blender or Zbrush (whichever you choose) and remember to work from big to small. References also help a ton in nailing the look of the character. Rigging is deceivingly complex, and for a quadruped character you can get away with adjusting the bones on Rigify’s (blender plugin) basic skeleton. Other than that looking up your software’s name (blender for example) and then the category I list in my video (retopology for example) will bring you to tons of great tutorials. There are tons of resources out there and I wish you luck on finding a process that works for you!
I haven't tried it yet, but apparently you can just add bone groups for extra limbs or anything like that. For example, you can just duplicate all the bones for the arms and set them accordingly and scale them for a four armed humanoid. You'll do this with the metarig and then the final rig will reflect that. There's another way to do this thru submenus I believe, but it's easy to just duplicate and place.
I was actually looking for something like this! Unfortunately my computer isnt strong enough to run blender but my college gives me access to 3D modelling computers >:)
"or you can do it manually if you hate yourself" felt so targeted........ I.... I do it that way... 😢 I like to think about it like "if this was a plushie, where would the seams go?" Which gets me, a beginner, pretty okay results all things considered. It took me an embarrassingly long amount of time to discover you can select edge loops though so I was picking vertice by vertice..................
At this point Blender you can get you all the way there without the need for plugins. CG Boost’s “Retopology In Blender” is a pretty good look into the retopo process in Blender. On Mars 3D’s “Blender 4.0 How to UV Unwrap Anything” is a good vid for UV unwrapping and packing.
