I signed up for her B-School thinking it would *fix* my small business. I blamed myself that I wasn't making tens of thousands a month after getting stuck attempting to work through the program - it set me back emotionally and not to mention the money I lost paying for the program 🙃

I had to smile when you mentioned Makeship. The Emotional Support Demon by The Click was actually the latest plushy I bought. Thinking about it the only plushy I bought for myself in probably 30 years. 😂😂😂
And the quality is amazing. I have never felt something so soft and fluffy.

Being an entrepreneur is good if you have a skill set that is in demand in the marketplace. In order to make a living there needs to be some base of people who are employees who are customers for entrepreneurs to have a sustainable income.
If everyone could manifest millions of dollars by charging thousands per hour the inflation spiral would crash the economy.

If people want to invest into their business they should invest in actual courses that teaches them measurable skills. I am talking about budgeting, advertising strategies, branding, bookkeeping, actually building a homepage (not just “This aesthetic attracts customers), video editing, how to record a podcast, …
You learn something useful, you have actual skills that are not only “mindset”.
I can only suggest a page like Skillshare that costs about $ 100 a year for everything. But there is also so much free material available on RUclips. It is just not curated.
I think one thing you always mention is the most important thing that everyone should keep in mind: Their way / history is not anybody else’s. Do they have some privilege that they don’t mention? They never mention that to stay “relatable”.

    • @itsdanielleryan
      @itsdanielleryan  Год назад +3

Yessss!! So true and so important!! Skillshare, Udemy, etc. so many other and affordable options (probably more valuable too tbh)

I agree, I spent thousands of dollars on courses and in hindsight, the best ones taught very specific skills, like SEO or a framework for writing a better blog post. On top of that, those course were "only " $300ish, not $2k, like a lot of "I will teach you how to build a multi million dollar business from scratch" course cost.

The problem with a lot of payment plans is that the interest rate is ridiculously high. For a 12 month payment plan for B-School, you are paying an interest rate of 19% ($199x12=2389 --> 2388-1999=$389, meaning you pay an extra $389 for the payment plan --> 1999/389 = 19.4%)
I've seen some that are even worse, like 20% for a 4 month payment plan, which would equate to a 60% annual interest rate!!!
And worse, people can make monthly payments, and put hundreds of dollars in...but if they miss a payment, I'm sure they're out the money but lose access to the course.

That "feeling love when you're paying your bills" thing is also in "The Secret" as a way to change how you feel about money, which will supposedly attract more money.

I’d love if more people would talk about these coaches. It’s ridiculous what some of them charge…
There is a German business coach who sold her 3 month mentorship for 50000€…I mean what?????
Do you know Amanda Frances? I bought her course about manifesting money 🙈….I wish I didn’t.
It’s so much about just wishing for it and praying etc. 🙄
Maybe you want to look into her stuff aswell.
She is super successful and just talks about the same stuff over and over. In my opinion her business is way too successful for what scam it actually js 🙄🙄🙄

40:00 - THIS! I've gone to a couple of different shrinks, and they never pushed 'packages' on me. One had a conversation with me about realistic expectations, ie. 'since your case is complex, you'll probably have to go to therapy for a long time to see true change' - but there was never any specific amount of sessions pushed (or pre-paid).

They all sound like Marie Forleo because she's the "Girl Boss" blueprint 🙄. She's been doing this longer than any of them and when she first started, everyone wanted her website, business model, and profit. I did B-School back in the day (2009?) and it was 🤷🏽‍♀.
A few notes: Laura Roeder and Marie co-founded ("Rich, Happy and Hot") B-School. Laura was initially in her mastermind, then they became business partners. Laura left after year 3(?) and went on to found MeetEdgar and other tech businesses.
It used to be that all B-School graduates could be affiliates. Then it was only a select amount of her handpicked industry "friends" could be affiliates. I don't know that it's back to everyone now.

SO glad I stumbled across your channel. I have been railing against these people for YEARS. These are all just different forms of internet marketers. These are the used car salesman of the internet. One common denominator I find fascinating is a shit-ton (majority?) of them are failed entertainers/actors. They all seem to have a deep-seated need for adoration from an audience. Look into many of them and you will see this same thread. None of them actually DO anything. They have no real expertise; their one true and innate skill is that of being smooth-talking, charismatic grifters. Like you so astutely point out, it's all just a bunch of coaches selling coaching to other coaches so they too can coach others how to coach coaches. It's so slimy. Of course, the people who fall for all this garbage and worship at these cult-of-personality altars are a whole other can of worms. They almost deserve each other. People want to believe the BS so much they lose their critical thinking ability to see through the scam.
I've been in online business since the 90s. I've watched many of these people from day 1. Yes, B-School started as a partnership between Laura Roeder and Marie Forleo. There was a parting of ways that was publicly portrayed as amicable, but smelled of something more abrupt and not so amicable. Laura Roeder was someone who arrived on the scene overnight, seeming to be a very young internet marketing wunderkind (which is NOT a compliment; these people are all cut from the same cloth and run in the same circles). After the split with Marie Forleo, she went on to create the social media management tool, Meet Edgar (which she later sold). BTW, Marie Forleo's SO is Josh Pais, an actor whose biggest claim to fame is playing one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. His acting makes me cringe, but for some reason he continues to get roles and bit parts in projects with some big names. Whatever his pull is, his influence and connections definitely seem to have helped her make the leap into the upper echelons of the internet marketing scene.

i want to hear your stories, Danielle, because i came in little later, so i missed the situation with laura, but watched marie for a time and was tag teamed by some in her band of flying monkeys. when i expressed to the person whose affiliate link i had signed up for that i was interested in marketing, she told me "you don't wanna be another marie forleo," but what she should've said was that "you don't belong in her inner circle." this was someone who was positioning herself as a value add for ✨ personal branding ✨ the stupid thing is: they actually want carbon copies 🙆🏽‍♀️🤡

It's also condescending to talk about cooking at home as a tip. Who is struggling that doesn't know cooking at home is generally cheaper? What if they are working 3 jobs and don't have time? It also just continues to prop up the myth of personal responsibility-- which is what allllll self help is all about. Being empowered to make new choices, yes. But you are poor because of all your own choices? NO.
