As a Tomy/Plarail/Trackmaster fan, it’s so sad and almost frustrating that they’re sold at unreasonable prices. You’re telling me that I can never get a Tomy Donald and Douglas set with two pieces of plastic shaped like mini snowplows under $950, or an Oliver under $150??? And I’m only talking about some of the ‘not rare’ ones… the real rare ones like TM Hector are just plain impossible to find. I wish people would sell them at reasonable prices…
I just can’t understand it myself.. I totally understand rarity and respect the people who try to truly collect Thomas stuff to the highest degree; but I just don’t know how a Thomas train can be over $300 if it was ever mass produced 😅

As a wooden railway fan, I can relate. You have to pay 10,000 for a dead tree just because it has a white face 🤦🏼

The TWR listings are only getting more and more ridiculous. I've been seeing lots that are worth like 100 priced at 600 or more
It’s too rare to find a rare track master or wooded railway engine for 50 30 or 10 dollars
I found the twins each at 120 dollars
I actually saw one yesterday. It was a wooden railway lot for $500 usd for 72 engines and some of them were thomas wood. If thomas wood is included, why even sell it at all?
Collecting any kind of toys and wanting older products can get really annoying with these kinds of ridiculous prices because at the end of the day its almost always just a handful of plastic
as a lego collector this hits way too hard

One of my friends went to a hobby shop recently, and they were selling a $200 dollar wooden Flying Scotsman. Things are out of hand.
You know what this reminds me of? That period from late 2016/early 2017 where people tried selling their Disney "Black Diamond" VHS tapes for thousands of dollars.

If you’re wondering why those Plarail Donald and Douglas toys are expensive, it’s because they came in a set with snowploughs which is very hard to find. And they have their snowploughs on.

I remember getting the Thomas ultimate set when I was 6. It was 2012 and I lived in an apartment with my family. It came in a plastic bin being a second hand set. I remember my mom telling me that the set was rare and to take good care of it. I still have that set to this day but Mighty Mack’s powered coach doesn’t work. Still a fun play set though, full of good memories.
Trackmaster Douglas is expensive because he was never released singularly by Tomy himself. He was only release in the winter snowplow set or whatever. At least that's what google said. But I still don't know if that's reasonable or not. :)
Edit: Same goes for Bash. He was only released in a set.
Tomy Douglas was released by himself in 2006, just not in Japan. Same goes for bill

I seen some theories about listings like this that they're used to disguise money laundering. There was once a listing for a single Nerf dart, those things that you can buy in 20 packs for $10, that was listed as 1 million USD at one point. So that could be what's going on with some of these. But, more than likely, these sellers are just ignorant on what they have and how much it's actually worth
Why not also cover some Hornby/Bachmann/Tomix listings? Believe me, there are plenty of them out there asking for silly money.

I’ve seen a Hornby Murdoch going for $3,000 dollars on eBay once.
Prices for the hornby models are mad. It's mainly because their models are no longer made and seem to be better quality than the Bachmann versions. I still have my Thomas Hornby model but it's from the early 1990's and has seen some action. Currently trying to get him up and running. I also have the mini Hornby Thomas which was one of Hornby's 040 chassis locomotives with a Thomas body on it, which came in the my first Thomas train set.

I once spent over $200 on 13 ERTL models that I was using for my series and I still have them today.
This is why I quit buying TWR products. It just kept getting ridiculous and I lost interest in the brand. Ironically it was right before the announcement of Thomas wood.
One time I was on eBay looking for a Tomy Oliver and I happened upon one that was, and I kid you not, OVER $1,000...

On the subject of rare Thomas items, I'm surprised that I still have a TWR bronze Diesel. He's still in good condition but I have no idea when I got him.
Once I saw an eBay listing of three 1992 tenders of Henry, Gordon, and James. For $5,000.

I used to now the Golden Railway Thomas as a kid, most of these are in horrible condition, considering, these were given to kids to play with
You should see how much Plarail Douglas alone goes for, I once saw a listing of him that was around $500, and between 300 or 400 without Tender at that. Then I look at Trackmaster Douglas and get upset

These are toys meant for children. Children can't afford any of this, and most parents sure as hell can't either. I wish old wooden railway would get a re-release, just so I don't have to see these ridiculous prices.

that Donald and Douglas is in fact pretty overpriced, going for like 500-600 at the moments, but its because Douglas was only made by Tomy in that one set
