Stay Swanky My Friends!
I work at Chevy.... newsflash haters. Chevy designed these trucks geometry with the key set at max height, then they lower it once the engineering is finished for ride comfort. Mpg, etc..... on the z71 models they raise it higher than a normal GM truck/SUV..... so shut the fuck up about his angles and wearing suspension, as long as you get an alignment youre fine, end of story. And the alignment just corrects camber and caster, etc. Your torsion keys were made to be at max height and still be safe.... wtf do you think we do at GM dealerships when customers whine about sagging front suspension.
THANK YOU!!! I've pinned this for all to see! It is funny how people freak out about this though. Especially when you can tell this only brought my truck back to stock-ish height ha-ha.
What about if the back of the truck is uneven?
@@scottpduke leaf spring bushings/shackle bushings. Maybe a cracked leaf..
Well for starters I stay the FUCK out of the stealership.
@@ridered7262 nobody cares, the soccer moms pay more than your share of repair costs 😂
I did this to my 2019 Duramax and it worked perfectly! Nothing better than a free upgrade! 👍🏼
Nice! Yeah man!
Hell yeaa i need to lift my 05 escalade. Did pretty good in houston flood water. Need to get higher tho
Thanks bro did what you suggested, worked perfectly my vehicle now has a much better stands.😎
Good deal man, I'm glad to hear that!
Thanks so much for this video helped me out a lot and keep the wheels bro
Glad to hear that! No problem!
I seen this video numberous times i had 20 inch wheels with spacers that always rubbed i decided to bump up to 275 60 r20 on bridgestone all terrains luckily the guys installing my tires let me use my liquid wrench and my ratchet n do 6 cranks now im level and very minimum rub thank u so much bro ur a life saver doing a 500 mile trip tomm i would never been able to fit these with out your help hats off to you
Wish i can send you a pic i also have ballistic wheels that are different with 2 inch Rough Country spacers
That's awesome man thanks! I'm really glad to hear it helped! I'll bet those look really nice in a 20! I went with some different wheels a while after this and wish I'd have gone a little bigger, oh well at least the tires are cheaper ha-ha.
Thank you man, i was looking for this!
Glad to hear it helped you out!
Appreciate it i was do a 4/6 drop but decided to just level the front to the rear an see but yeah i domt like that droopin either in front
I have a 04 1500 Chevy Silverado and the ride height was exactly the same as yours before you did the cranking so now I can add an inch to the front so it won’t look so stupid 😂. I was looking for a free way to do it
Rims look good.
Just got my 16 Silverado and I love it. Tinted windows and got weather tech mats. Looking good, I just need to have front end lifted about 2 inches. That will make truck level with back end. Why does GMC do this? Pulling load? I wish Chevy would do this at factory.
Your black wheels look good I am going to tork my 3500 up thanks I put 9.2 boss plow on and tires were rubbing in the tight turns it's a 91 cheve with 454 it cool truck
Nice, I drove a 1500 with the 454 in once. Cool sounding motor!
YEP. I did my 3/4 Crewcab. Looks alot better level. As for wheel. I suggest center blk/ crome outer for ur color truck.
Nice! That's pretty close to what I went with!
The problem is your upper control arm will take a beating of you do this. You can change them to after market ones that are designed to be at an angle, but the factory ones will eventually break if you max out the keys.
If its your style keep them if it was my truck i would put some offroad tires and some Full rim rims
For everyone saying don't do this. You can do this to restore factory ride height. If your not sure what that is, look at your CV shafts with the vehicle on the ground. They should be between straight(level) across, or down just a hair toward the wheel end. It's when you see 30 to 45degrees down hill to the wheel that you've gone way to far
Very good point, thank you!
When I bought my '16 2500 the previous owner had turned the torsion bars as far up as they could get them to clear the new rims and tires they put on. This left the upper control arms with very little room to travel and makes my truck ride terrible. Hitting a bump in my truck is spine shaking.

Stay swanky 👍
Are the two 18 mm bolts right up under the transmission inside that little frame right there to crossmember
Im getting this truck. And its so low. So i need to make it higher u know?. And im not a Shiny Show off rim kind of guy ima offroad tire and rim kind of guy! Love how tall the truck is
I saw your video and I have a problem on my silverado of 2016 it stings the nose to the front left and rear left I could join you a photo could you tell me how to solve this problem thank you
Catman I have my F-150 set up an inch higher in the front like an off road racing truck lol ; P
Longrider Nice! I did the same with my 91 chevy, tires still rubbed! Ha ha.
I like the rims.
What does the change do for the four wheel drive?
It levels out if you actually put some weight in the back ;)
I can't find them on a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado four-wheel drive are you sure they're right there in that spot
keep those balistic they look very good on the truck
Thanks!
Just found your channel, awesome!!!
What size tires if u don’t mind?
Thanks Al. The tires in this video were just stock size. Now I'm running larger 285 70 17s on pro comp wheels. Thanks sir
Sure thing!
Keep them like the truck level
What size tires you running?
Cool rims bro
Thanks!
Rims r Cool 👍
Thanks! my front end of my H2 is sagging. Gotta start cranking...
No problem, glad it helped!
Was wondering how the front axels are after you have drove on them for awhile herd lot of negitive things about doing this just curious thinking about doing it to mine thanks?
If you over crank them and the A arms are over extended (angled down to much) that can cause issues. In my case my torsion bars were worn out enough that even by cranking them all the way up like I did, the A arms aren't over extended. In fact it probably sits pretty close to where it did when it was brand new.
Sweet! I want to do this now! Will this mess with any sensors or air ride suspension? Also, why does it look like you have a lot of play in the steering wheel?
It shouldn't no. I was over steering on the gravel siding around ha ha
Great video. Thanks for the info
Thanks! I'm glad it helped!
This is exactly what I needed to know for my 2008 2500HD work truck. Thanks Bro.
No problem 👍
I cranked mine all the way up on my 98 k1500 suburban and it made it feel like I was driving a pogo stick..lol I put 20x12.50x33 on the burb but they were scrubn on the fender flares a little so I cranked em up and it stop the rubbing but now its bouncing will longer shock fix this with alignment????
Yeah if they aren't worn out like mine cranking them all the way up will make for a rough ride. You could try getting the shocks rebuilt out replaced to calm the spring action down but you might be better off lowering it to a comfortable ride and then trimming your fenders so the wheels clear.
Trying to do the math (Was it 5 or 6 full turns?)
If the bolt was 18 x 1.0, 6 turns would be 6mm = 1/4 inch.
??
So wait you said you did 6 full turns on each side?
So clockwise crank lifts the truck, thus counter clockwise lowers it? I'm getting annoyed of having my truck lifted. Wouldn't mind and inch or two lower. Nice truck btw!
Yes that is correct. Thank you!
Keep them
Looks like your getting that truck built! I've got zero experience with torsion bars, but if they are maxed out..they might be pretty weak and it'll drop again soon..dunno...?
Getting there! Working on it to night a bit too. Yeeeeah that is a good point haha I'm not sure how much faster they will lose there spring now that I cranked them up but it certainly won't help preserve them that's for sure. I've never heard of anyone replacing them but it would give me more adjustment! Haha.
No it just ruins ride quality, have to get an alignment as well
@@nickrobb7719 yup so true, after a year of driving my 06 1500 with the torsions cranked up I had to replace so much shit in the front end. Went through 3 axles as well. I suggest buying a whole lift kit.
@@angelr6524 yup it destroys everything buy a kit thats made for it don't put extra stress and change ur angles
@@nickrobb7719 It destroys nothing, its made specifically for the trucks adjustment from the factory.
Thx
No problem, hope it helps!
Yes👍
Would it work better n a Chevy suburban 2007
I believe an 07 Suburbans front suspension should look and work very similar to what's shown in the video, yes. To the best of my knowledge this process should be very similar on any vehicle with Torsion bar suspension.
Yes it's the same bro I have an 02 Tahoe and rebuilding the front end it's the same 100%
I watched this up to the 2:41 mark, when you told the dog to "Shut Up"
He was probably telling you to Shut Up...
A.H.
You think this will work on a 2016 Silverado with 4x4?
If you've got torsion bars and keys you should be able to adjust them the same way.
Can you do this to a 2007 Chevy Suburban?
As long as it's got torsion bars, yes!
One inch in the front gave you a new perspective on your wheels? Lol
do you need to put longer shocks ?
Nope, they have enough travel in them.
My 04 Chevy z71 from factory had the torchion keys all the way up already and I'm very confused
Really??? I've never owned a truck since new I guess but I've never seen that. Usually they are about halfway up. I guess I did have a lifted 2000 that the bars started to ware out on after while and they were almost all the way up but I assumed they had been cranked up after the lift was installed.
@@SwankyCatProductions yeah that's all I could think of is they just wore out or something
Wheels look good
Yeah...I almost wish I'd have kept them... oh well.
For the location of the same area he's working at
looks like you have little head room geting into the garage! the truck looks great c-ya peace out
Thanks Jay! Haha yeah only about 2 inches of clearance the way it sits today, cuttin it close!
Does that for every car or just for that brand
There are a few manufacturers that use torsion bars so it'll work for anything that has them.
what size tires could you clear stock?
I've got 285/75/17s on wheels that stick out just a tad now. I had to trim an unnoticeable amount of plastic off the bottom of the front bumper but they fit great now and don't rub off road. I've got a video on that too.
I have 2018 Silverado will this work?
Should yep.
What type of camera are you using
GoPro Hero 3.
Chrome!!!
Haha that would look good! I went with a 50/50 mix of polished aluminum and black paint. Looks aight!
What’s the name of the intro music I need help!!!
Uhhh, that's just me singing?
Are there any problems I should know about before doing this, like some problems after jacking it up in the front for example is your steering feel weird or anything like that
TheGamingLucario truck rides like shit.. you’ll feel every bump very stiff
@sharla1754 lol I don't even have my truck anymore lol this is such an old comment
Can I do that on my 08 silverado z71?
Yep should be the same.
@@SwankyCatProductions thanks!
U should color match everything
Make all the chrome black you mean?
Did you have to get a realignment after this?
Cooper Griffis he did, it may drive straight but it’ll wear your tires over time
Jacob is correct. Your tires will lean in, causing them to wear unevenly if you don't get an alignment.
where our torsionn on gmc 04 pick up
Should be the same unless its 2wd then you wouldnt have them
Trucks look better level and not squatting like a dog taking a piss. Yours looks good brother.
Agreed, thank man!
What size tires are you running ? 🤔
These were 265 75 16s. Now I've got 285s on it.
SWANKY CAT oh okay cool i just got some 35s but don’t think just leveled would be enough 😅
Mmm if you do a lot of cutting it might haha otherwise you'll need a bit more lift to clear um
SWANKY CAT hahaha true
Give it a little lean drop the back like 1 1/2
Looked for the torsion bar for an hour. Finally realized I don't actually have one. Does anyone know what that does to your truck?
4x4s or 03-07Silverado super sports trucks have them
My new to me 2000 Chevy Astro is sagging on the driver's side about 3/4". I'm guessing that 3 turns should get me leveled out. The previous owner weighed over 300 pounds.
This will work on a 89 chevy k2500 right? And how important is a alignment afterward, like could I go a couple months without a alignment.
Yep, any of the K series trucks should have torsion bars you can adjust. Not getting an alignment done right away will negativly effect your handling and will wear out the inside of your tires.
@@SwankyCatProductions ok thanks
Alighned?
Yes, the front end needs to be adjusted so the wheels aren't tilted after this adjustment.
@@SwankyCatProductions I know I'm just teasing over spelling...You mean *Aligned 🤠
What kind of effect on your MPG?
I didn't notice anything until I put on larger tires. I've actually got a video about that too.
So what is the "proper way" (if any) to get a small 1 or 2 inch lift from the front? My tires rub
Depending on how far your bars have wore from stock height you might be able to get the amount I did without putting your A arms at an angle that'll make your front end components wear faster. Everyone seems to think I put to much stress on my front by doing this but my A arms are not even close to an extreme angle. My bars were just really worn. Another misconception is that new torsion keys are somehow easier on your front end and provide a better ride. Which couldn't be further from the truth, new keys just let you crank the bars up even more then the stock keys. Otherwise a small body lift isn't to noticeable or difficult to install... they are a pain though.
@@SwankyCatProductions I'll get under there and check, thanks yo
Never do this to a stock torsion bar set.
Why not?
@@SwankyCatProductions Because the truck is not designed for it unless you replace the keys with modified keys or you can have the suspension banging up against the frame.
No...the suspension is specifically designed to be adjusted... Hence the adjustment bolts. The bars ware out over time and adjusting them can help correct both ride height and camber during alignment. Aftermarket Keys don't do anything other then let you over adjust the torsion bars. In turn putting extra strain on the suspension and steering components.
James M this is an old wife's tale to get you to spend more money. The only time you would need an indexing key is if your torsion bars are sagging beyond what the stock key can lift. The key twists the torsion bar, how far the bolt is threaded means nothing as the bar index or twist is relative. The real issue is lifting so far that your wheels cannot be aligned (top is being pulled in) and you put a hard angle on the CV shaft. Ride leveling back to stock is just adjusting the sag out of the spring.
Funny
Thanks!
why?
Wheel clearance, ground clearance & aesthetics.
Sure, I get why you'd want to lift a truck (i would never do it but I understand). But why torque the shit out of your torsion bar and ruin the handling of your truck just to gain an inch or two? Makes no sense. @@SwankyCatProductions
Steering a little loose bro?😂
Mmm not really no? Just turns easy on gravel I guess...
My tires squeal on gravel like the Dukes of Hazzard. Is this something i should be concerned about? Lol. Truck looks good and rims are tuff.
Sell them to me for cheap!
Sorry man, I sold them already.
Truck looks cool but dude that's way too much. Got an 03 Avalanche and I put in the leveling keys, less cranking, less stress on the bars. You'll get your height without the bounce.
Thanks! My bars were a bit worn out so even cranked way up its not really any higher then a new stock truck would be and it doesn't effect the ride. Unless there's some magic to them that I dont understand new keys just dial up the rotation of the bars so you can rotate them even farther.
SWANKY CAT Exactly. Not sure what makes people believe a lift key changes the properties of the torsion bar.
I think putting a key it has the same effect on the bar, except that u can lift it from 1" to 3" so is just repositioning the bar fro 12 to 6 or so, still have the same waiht supporting
Bye bye ride quality, might wanna make sure ur lower control arm is maxed out
On a newer less worn in truck you would be correct. However torsion bars tend to wear out after while and the front end drops. So by cranking them up like I did I really just brought it up to a little higher than stock ride height and A arm angle.
Get rid of them and get OUTLAW Wheels!!
This will cost you money in premature wear on the suspention and steering parts
magna89242 you accept this when you lift your vehicle
Wrong way to do it.
Mmm no, as long as you don't over do it it's fine. There's a reason the adjustment is there.
Burn it
Let me know if he does, I'll park my sierra next to his so it gets it too
So this is an instructional video with no instructions?
Sell to much black
Agreed, I went with some silver and black pro comp wheels.
DONT DO THIS! It will literally destroy your trucks ride quality and your truck will feel like you are nonstop riding a bucking bull...
Only if you over do it. Mine rides just fine.
Don’t do this. Get a BDS 6” kit and be done with it.
Not everyone has $1000 sitting around to blow on a lift der guy. Or in my case a lifted truck wouldn't fit in my garage. I actually sold my lifted rig for that reason and because I was sick of getting 12mpg now that I'm a half hour from town.
Go ahead , crank the shit out of them , and be like me with a 2k front end repair job from the previous owner who did it to my truck
If they are worn out like mine were cranking them up to the height I did won't hurt anything. I specifically said that and that you need to watch the angles of your A arms as not to crank them to an extreme angle. Also front end parts do just wear out... they are wear parts.
@@SwankyCatProductions thank you for the reply . I'm currently putting a front end in and have to crank mine down what should be the stopping point to level the truck ?
@Five hundred 20s uhhhh. I guess I could of bought cheap ass a chinese parts that would of lasted 30k miles ..
rims are awful on that
You just stripped the threads off those adjustment bolts fool
Noooo... I didn't?
@@SwankyCatProductions If you did it while the truck was on the ground you did.
Big Truck Little RV that's dumb, a because he clearly shows the lift in the front and b because it's just not true.
@@tomlindo2863 Those bolts are not designed to be turned with the weight of the vehicle on them. Idiot
