Glad I watched this last night, went to local fishery today and nothing on lures so remembered you were using an egg fly in the second part, stuck one on under the bung and had 8 in 90mins. Top bloke👍🏻👍🏻
Brilliant! I fish a lot of lakes wherelures are the go for most regulars .doing something very different like fishing an egg static can be devastating ,especially in clear water .
Great video, you never seem to be like most anglers always in a rush to fish,Great you show how to mix it all up and do different things, very informative, keep all the content comming and fly tutorials.
This video was an absolute joy to watch and it looked like a ton of fun !!! The trout looked like very healthy and seemed to have plenty of fight in them. Just a few more days, I’m hoping, and my waters should be clear of ice. Great content, video and fishing, thanks a bunch!!!!!
Hi Tim Another great video, and don’t you make it look easy, I didn’t see the person to your right catch one fish, 🤣😅😂 Keep the videos coming, they are an absolute pleasure to watch, thanks. Bob.👍👍👍🎣🎣🎣
Enjoyed that Tim and a perfect example of how to treat a fish you plan to C&R, I was picked up on this on my last video and must admit I couldn’t disagree with the comment 😢
Sometimes handling the fish is unavoidable but for the best part its should be quiet simple when using barbless hooks and a good long handle landing net . Thanks for watching mate .
Great 👍 to see you out and about. I hope your well. Love to watch your vlogs. One of the best and very informative. Have been sub of yours for several years. Will we get to see you tie some next year or may get a few product reviews. Have you every thought of going north bound to fish new waters or even Ireland .
Thanks , I am glad you enjoy the content . Yes lots more tying vids in the New year . As always any requests just drop them in the comments . I do travel around through the season , I spent a week in Ireland last year with the England youth team on Lough Lene . It can be difficult mixing work and making the vids but I am definitely going to make the time this year to vary the venues as much as I can . Thanks again and happy new year !
Fantastic video as always mate, gave me the itch to get over there soon (I also much prefer the videos with no music, in case you ever wondered what the audience likes 🤷)
Brilliant video tim m8 cant beat a good old rolly polly lol waters still quite clear there even at this time of year i remember it being crystal clear blue in the summer brilliant fishery 👌least now ur panda eyes can heal this time of year mine has 🤣 hope u had a good christmas m8 🎄 keep the vids cummin and all the best to u n ur family for newyears m8 🍻🎉🎣
All the best to you and yours mate . Yes Rook hall is still like tap water , Home water is perfect at the moment with a tiny tinge of colour and thats why the fish will come to the pull on that lake . Glad you enjoyed it again buddy and I hope to catch up with you in the New Year .
I fish all over the country . There arnt that many day ticket venues in Essex unfortunately . There Thornwood in Epping which is a nice little well run complex . I fish Walthamstow reservoirs quiet a bit in the winter . But thats really it for day ticket waters in Essex .
@@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 Norton is a nice fishery not far from Thornwood Springs. It’s in Stapleford Tawney. Bert that runs it is a nice chap. Catch some nice fish there. Check it out, give Bert a call.
Yes a size 12 white egg . I had about 3ft between the indicator and fly , that is the usual taking depth in Winter on that water . It will vary greatly between venues .
@@infinity_reload White or pink are definitely my two favourite winter colours for clear water venues . If the lake is carrying colour then Orange or Black
Very encouraging video Tim. I'll definitely be trying BFD/Cormorant combo and the bung/egg method next week. One question Tim .. at the start of your video you said the fish were in the top two feet of water. How did you know this? Because of the recent cold weather, I've assumed the fish were down deep on the lakes I fish. I think I've been making the wrong assumption as my success rate has been low - as usual :)
I to think the same.cold weather sends them deep. Alo rain running up to when you fish puts them downs. So can you explain Tim why there up in the surface layers please
Hi Rob . I think you hit the nail on the head when you said you had assumed the fish were deep . Fish dont read the text books ! When I approach a new water I will start fishing high gradually working my way deeper until I get a response . This is easiest done with a floating line and a weighted point fly . The floating line gives you maximum control and by using counting the flies down each cast you can effectively search the water column . When you find the fish you can then make a decision on what line would be best . Trout are remember cold water fish , they love the chilled water unlike cyprinids . When we fished together at Walthamstow I targeted the trout on the bottom not because the cold had sent them there but because they were feeding hard on blood worm in the silt ! When there is little food in the lake as re Chigboro at the moment the fish will usually cruise about just in the top half of the water and will always move up to hit a fly . I think the best way to approach your fishing is not to have any pre conceived ideas and assess each lake as you arrive on the bank . We should have a day on your lake soon !
@@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 if a floating line has more control, why did you start on an intermediate fly line instead? Would this have made a difference to the angle of the retrieve when you did the slow roly-poly?
@@infinity_reload The lakes had been busy that week as you can imagine . Talking to anglers that morning they were all saying that the fish were coming short , just nipping the flies so I assumed they had seen a lot . I made two changes , one was to scale down both flies to 12s as I guessed most locals were using big stuff , the second was to use an intermediate line that wouldn't leave such a conspicuous wake on the surface as I retrieved the flies . So in this case the line choice wasn't about depth it was more about presentation .

Hi Tim which Wychwood rod were you using ? Great tips and advice 👍🏻
01:30
Wychwood Truefly 10ft 7wt with the intermiediate and I used the 10ft 8wt on rook hall to cast the indicator as there was a very strong cross wind
Do fish many other Essex venues beside Chigboro?
