    I did a protein treatment by mistake a little over a year ago and I thought I’d have to cut my hair out, I couldn’t even touch it without it snapping. I’ve always had healthy natural hair and that had me in TEARS. I avoided anything with protein in it for months. My hair is back and healthy again!

    The issue is that most products for afro texturd hair has protein in it and I believe is the reason we are having so many set backs with our hair. I feel like it should be treated like iron, only purchase it if you need it and never be added to any product. My hair went from being very moisturized with define curls and waves to dry, brittle and hardly no curls. My hair doesnt like aloe or water anymore, if I use that my hair would frizz up and become dry and crunchy like I had used a protein treatment.

    How does coconut oil make hair brittle? I've never heard of an oil doing that. The protein overload I can see, but not the oil, but you are correct. I found this online: "But for low porosity hair, it's hard enough to get water into the strands, so if you have coconut oil taking up space, then hair may not get the moisture that it needs, therefore, it dries out."

    • @rqhstlouis
      @rqhstlouis Год назад +1

      Idk the science behind it, behind my hair also hates coconut oil. It might be simply because oil and water don’t mix and too much coconut oil blocks the hair from getting moisture in.

    Such a great video thank you! Question: how do you remove the protein making your hair brittle?

    • @shelltalkshair
      @shelltalkshair  Год назад +1

      You can balance it with moisture/protein balanced products and staying away from protein treatments for a while.

      @@shelltalkshair thank you sm!! I washed my hair last night and took the advice from the video and it feels way more moisturized! I think my aphogee products helped the balanced moisturizer with a light oil 😮‍💨😭

    Does the heat from a silk press help with breaking down some of the excess protein?

    Hiw do you know if you have protein overload? Ugh, my hair sheds a lot. I don't know what else to do to help with the shedding.

    • @jk9084
      @jk9084 Год назад +2

      It's very brittle and breaks off in small pieces when you do nothing, comb or touch it. You have to go on a 2-3 week moisturizing routine avoiding all protein (check product labels) to get your hair back to normal. Did it twice 😅.

    Coconut oil does not come into my house in any cosmetics, skin care, body care, or hair care. It is too much for my hair and breaks my skin and scalp out.
