      Hi Ed Thanks so much for the love. The 30 is a great middle range choice I think and a very useful size for all round shooting. That is really an in-depth review. Great - thank you very much! Just a question concerning the waist straps. I'm 179 cm. I'm a little concerned that with the Explore 25 those waist straps are rather belly straps because of the small height of the E25. The size of the E25 would be perfect for me (Fuji XT3 with some lenses). But what about those straps? Are they really around your waist or significantly above?

    • @etchd_
      @etchd_  3 года назад

      Hi Stefan , thanks so much for the kind words! Without having seen you in person, I think that the straps of the 25 could sit a little too high. On me 171cm tall with a relatively long torso, the straps sit about 1/4 on my hips and 3/4 above. However, the weight I'm carrying is far less than I would with a larger bag so it is ok. You may need one of the larger bags. Shoot me a message on IG and ill send you some pics of the bag on me!

    Hey Matt - thanks so much for addressing the airplane under-seat topic. I'm still picking between the 25L and 30L of this backpack and whether or not it will consistently fit underneath and airplane seat is the only reason i'm not immediately jumping on the 30L. You mentioned taking the X30 all over the world on planes, and I believe this is almost exactly the same size as the Explore 30L. I know the 25L Explore is the safe 100% bet, but personally, do you feel the 30L of this Explore series would work under all airplane seats, even if it's a tight squeeze?
    Thanks for the insights!
    - Brian

    • @etchd_
      @etchd_  Год назад

      Hi Brian, thanks for dropping by! It is a really tough question ahah and honestly, I can't be sure because every seat is different. But the 30L should fit in, especially if you use the medium mirrorless core unit and pack your camera so that it is flush or under the height of the unit. That unit isnt as tall as the DSLR so you can flatten the bag ever so slightly. But it all depends on how much gear you take. I rarely put bags under seats because i have too much equipment now so it has to go in the overhead bin. Is there a reason it must fit under the seat and not above?

    • @briansteph
      @briansteph Год назад

      @@etchd_ Hey mate - thanks for the response and insights! This is all very helpful.
      My wife and i generally try to only travel with carry-ons. We've had some rough experiences with lost luggage in the past, and also try and pack as minimally as possible. Our upcoming trip will be 3 weeks in Europe, so we will each have a small carry-on suitcase for our clothes on top of our "personal item", which in my case will be the backpack with all of the camera gear along some other personal items. Since the suitcase will be in the overhead, I'll likely have to put the backpack under the seat.
      As far as gear goes, I'm bringing my Sony A7IV with 2 lenses (17-28mm & 28-75mm, so nothing crazy large), my DJI Mini 3 Pro with the remote control, and a GoPro with almost no accessories. I tend to use my backpack for snacks and small travel souvenirs as well. So a fairly modest set up, just enough to do some basic travel vlogs.
      It's been hard to know without getting my hands on one of the backpacks if the 25L would be enough, but I do feel confident the 30L would be enough...so long as I could put it under the airplane seats basically 100% of the time.
      Based on what you mentioned in the video and your response, plus a little of what I've seen from others who have the bag on YT, I feel fairly confident that I could get away with it being my "personal item" on the vast majority of flights, if not all of them, so long as I'm intentional with how the bag is packed.

    Thanks for showing the extra depth with the core unit. I’ve got the old Explore 40 and so was looking at the new 25 for a smaller/lighter carry but was a bit concerned the core unit wouldn’t fit my D810 with an RRS L bracket. But seeing that part of the clip makes me pretty confident the height won’t be an issue. Would be great to hear if you think otherwise! 👍🏼

    Hi Matt I really enjoyed your review. I am really impressed with the Shimoda bags. I like the look of the material and it looks so much lighter than other bags. I love that I can the straps can be adjusted as I am short and have a small frame. I always struggle to get the sternum straps in the right place. I do have a question please. I have looked at the Kickstarter page and am little confused about the options. Does the SHELL only option come with a core unit for the lens and camera. The other option is the Small Kit that offers a mirrorless core unit and I think it is an extra core unit but not sure. Hope you can help. I must say you have a very calm voice that makes it so much easier to listen to. Thank you.

    Since you are also familiar with action X, your opinion might be useful to me.
    I hesitate between the Action X30 and the Explorer E30 V2. I'm more in the sound recording, in different places, with mini photography equipment. We can say that it's a bit the opposite of your case (A small camera and several microphones / audio recorders VS A microphone and several cameras and lenses) ^^
    So it will be mainly for audio recording but also for traveling with some clothes while following European standards...
    Thank you

    • @etchd_
      @etchd_  3 года назад

      Hi Ahmed, thanks so much for stopping by and watching!
      It sounds to me like you would benefit from either bag, however, the Explore V2 would be more versatile in that it looks a tad less 'adventure' and would fit in better when walking around the streets of Europe. Being an audio guy, you'll have more cables and smaller items which would be accommodated in the new bag with all the extra pockets. Having that larger inside back pouch sleeve will also be super beneficial for you. I myself, would actually like a 30ltr version for myself, but just have too many bags ha. I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any more questions and I can hopefully answer them. If you do decide on a bag for whatever reason, it would be awesome if you could support my channel and use the link above to explore the store! thanks so much.

    Do you see this replacing your X30? I’m tempted to pick up both a 25 and 35 to replace my X30. I don’t do anything extreme, so the added comfort and organization is more appealing than the durability and expandability of the X30.

      Hi Pete, thanks so much for the message. It is difficult to say, but it sounds like the form factor and added comfort of the new models might suit you better. I really love the roll top of the X30, and I still use it as my workhorse, but it isn't as practical for an everyday bag, plus it definitely looks way too adventure to duck off and do city shoot ha. Would you sell your x30? you may be better off just keeping it. Aside from looks, it can do everything the new ones can, just has a different amount of pockets and comfort.

      @etchd_  3 года назад +1

      Hi Chris! To me, this is a no brainer. I have had numerous mates with the Wandrd and while they are great bags, they really aren't built for adventure, at least not the PRVKE models. If you watch my Action x 30 review I talk about some of the downfalls with this bag as an adventure bag. It is a great street and general purpose bag where you might drive somewhere, walk 1/2 hour to a spot shoot then back to the car, but it really inst made for adventure. The materials are heavy, straps aren't very comfortable when loading the bag up, the rear access pocket is thick and pools water at the top. I think with their adventure centred bags they address some of these issues, but if you are looking for a dedicated adventure bag, the Shimoda wins this hands down. Not sure of your body type though and what you are after!

      Hi there! thanks so much mate. That is a bit of a broad set of questions there with too many variables to give you a proper answer sorry. Even my 25ltr fits a gripped body standing up, it will be the size of the lens that will be the limiting factor i think. You will have no trouble getting the camera out from the side access, no matter which bag you choose. As for flight compliance, that will depend on what flight you are taking. The 35ltr should pass as carry-on when put in the overhead locker. To be safe though, the 30ltr will fit for all flights.

BUt usually I have with me the 40-150 mm pro lense and an laowa 10 mm UW and at 50/50 occasions the Haida M10 filter system with some glasses. When I travel I always like to have some food and a sweater and/or a very light rain / wind jacket with me. Does this fit into the 25L? I am 171 mm height so not tall. Would appreciate your comment.

I just packed the bag with exactly the same items as you listed here (swapped the LAowa with my 7-14mm f2.8) and it all fits easily. The issue with square filters is where you actually store them, regardless of the size of the bag. The filter holder and filters will easily fit in the back sleeve, however, you would still need to be careful with them. Size-wise for everything else it will fit fine! Not quite shure which one to choose (25 or 30). Mostly I carry a mirrorless body with L-Bracket, a 24-70 and a 100-400 + some filters. Do you have a recommendation for this setup - especially as you're also an owner of the X50 (with medium DSLR core unit)? @@etchd_ so this would be able to be packed inside a larger travel bag in a lay flat position? I'm trying to figure out because this would be s great companion to my Peak Design Travel Bag. The camera cubes would fit both bags (Shinoda or Peak Design look like they have the same dimensions)

    Hi, thanks for the amazing video! I have the ActionX 30 which I LOVE for hiking but I am traveling Europe so I think I need to get one of these explore. I feel the Action x30 was too big for my frame (156 cm) so I really want the explore 25L.. but I'm wondering if you think there is enough room for my Fuji XT4, 3 or 4 small lenses, and a drone? I think most likely not but I really want a smaller bag.

    • @etchd_
      @etchd_  3 года назад

      Hi there Ana! thanks so much for the kind words :)
      Ahh you are quite short, so the 25ltr would definitely suit you better along with the female straps? If you stored the Xt4 on its end, and the lenses were small you should have no trouble getting at least 3 in there. But adding a drone would be out of the question i think unless you had it in the top pocket. What drone do you use? the new MAvic Air potentially could fit?

    The size difference sounds minimal between the 30 and 35, I’m wondering if i’d miss that extra storage up top with the 30l. My first shimoda bag, not sure what to expect. An in shorter doesn’t sound like much, 2 inches more shallow, not sure.

      Hi Chase! Ahh that's a tricky one. What gear do you normally shoot with and what did you want the bag for?

      @@etchd_ Right now I’ve got a sony Rm4 with a 24-105, and my old a6000 with a small 35 and 12mm. A couple batteries and chargers for each model, a wolverine filter case, cable and card cases. Ideally I’m looking for something that could potentially hold up to the 200-600 sony or now rumored sigma, while i travel. But for travel, i like that top space for hoodies, gloves, snacks or whatever?

      @@etchd_ You’ve been so helpful, would you mind answering one more question? Kickstarter bags cannot be returned so now the pressure is on to get the right one. The only reason I’m looking for a bag is I’m concerned about the weight of the OneMo bag I recently purchased (and am on a deadline to return), but the e35 with large icu is nearly a pound heavier than the OneMo. So my question is, do you happen to know if the large mirrorless insert can be configured the same way as the large DSLR? It looks like it comes with different dividers but I like the setup of the DSLR, at least from available photos.
