I've always kinda believed game Sonic had that kinda rule and mentality. If not, he would've offed Eggman a long time ago. I know he technically can't cause ya know it's the main thing for the franchise, but still, there are other villains too he couldn't killed but didn't even tho it wouldn't effect the main conflict and story of the series

If he doesn’t have to kill you, and you haven’t done anything to hurt him personally, he won’t kill you. But if it’s for the sake of the mission, he’ll do it. For instance, he kills King Arthur in cold blood not even knowing his deal, who he is really, or if he’s a knight of the underworld. But because it’s the right thing to do and the only answer to the scenario he does it with a smile on his face, not caring if it’s all that heroic.
@JakeTylenol yeah makes sense for me with the whole Mr. Tinker thing I felt it was simply because the opportunity presented itself like he wouldn't try to convince him normally, but since it happened, he was hoping it stuck like maybe when he first met Eggman he tried but after one or two adventures he decided he wasn't gonna budge and gave up and the Tinker thing just brought up those old feelings and he thought it was a fresh start and because those feelings were brought back up that's why ge tried convincing him even after he was set back to normal

Drama Someone says they prefer blue to yellow? Drama Is dialogue changed in a game from the original? Drama Furthermore, this argument is entirely valid since Sonic is actually not a person to cuddle. The way he hugs everyone including Shadow is just cringe and out of context. Sure, cuddling isn't cringe, but the way he did it in prime was. He looked like a kindergarten kid seeing his family again.
