    i have been using ampegs since the 1980s i bought my first ampeg svt in the mid 80s and i still have it today along with a ampeg svt3 pro a 4 pro and a 6 pro.there is nothing that sounds like a svt thru an 810.i mean yes my all tube svt is a pain lugging it around but i wouldnt give it up for anything.

    The big thing is that Ampeg really puts the bass in that perfect area that other amps don't do. Other amps can give a cool effect to your sound, but I would never want to use any of the other guys on its own. Combining something else with Ampeg would be cool.
    The ones I would use other then Ampeg would be 70s Musicman or Sunn amps. Otherwise, Ampeg all the way.

    I have an SVT-3 Pro and SVT-810E for many ears. I tried many different amps and cabs but this is the preferred sound and feel for me. I tried some Preamp boxes with DI but they are not doing the trick for me. I found recently that if the bass amp and cabinet are good it will sound good even with cheap basses. The SVT-3 Pro is the best of both worlds with a sold-state power amp and 5 tubes in the preamp even with the wonderful tube gain option that changes the voltage of the tubes and the sound can be modulated from tube like warm sound to pure solid state. Also the 810 cab has each pair of speakers in their own enclosure and this way there is less speakers battling for air than in the 410 cab. The sound is tighter and more focused than the 410 cab. This combination is wonderful and can be used for literally any style of music - from jazz to grind core and everything in between.

      I 100% agree that when it comes to sound a better amp is much more important than a more expensive bass! Thank you for sharing! T

    There's something special about a 300w tube amp with an 810. You've gotta try it. In my opinion, that 810 is just as important as the head. It is by far my favorite. Do yourself a favor when using it, you gotta get out in front, past the monitors, for whatever reason, those cabinets just really open up like 12' out

    • @TylerSpicer
      @TylerSpicer  2 года назад +2

      Definitely! They beam due to the phase cancelation of all the speakers working together - much like a Marshall 4x12, they end up being very directional. There is definitely something about having all that speaker pushing out behind you that's incredibly satisfying!

      that was my first amp. I was beyond stoked to bring it to a recent outdoor gig, everyone there kept talking about how good it sounded. modelers are great, truly, but something about having the real thing behind you, especially nowadays, is VERY special.

    I always use the B15 or SVT plug in w/ compression, and some DI mixed in. Always creates a strong tone in the mix. Ampeg bass amps just have "that" sound w/ the low mids sitting in the perfect spot. Nobody else has it. Fender rumble gets close w/ the vintage button, but not quite.

    There is no substitute for a real Ampeg amp. I have a B25b and a V4. I used to use a Fender Rumble with a pedal that was supposed to sound like an Ampeg.... It was close but it just couldn't cut it. They sound beautiful. They have a growl, they can be clean, dirty, just break up a bit.. I love them. I use a B25b (2-15 cab) and a V4 (4-12) cab on these. They sound glorious. I still need to pick up an SVT 8-10 cab.

    I will never use anything but Ampegs from now on. I have a PF-50T, an SVT-CL, and both an 810 and 212 cab. I really want to get the V-4B, however. That's probably my favorite Ampeg tube amp that I've tried.

    I just bought a BA210V2 after my Fender Rumble died, big difference. I spent my first night with it plugged directly in, no DI or pedals and fell in love with the tones. All I need now is an extension cabinet and I'm set until I have an SVT one day.

    Even though it almost never happens these days on backline gigs, even if it isn't one of my tube svts, whenever I see a fridge and an ampeg something on it I breathe a sigh of relief bc I know it's going to give me exactly what I want. I will say if you've not, give a tube one a try. I know that the 3 pro is half tube and very good(and prob my fave hybrid ampeg) but I gotta say man there's magic in the classic rigs and I can't explain it. Wouldn't give mine up for anything.

    SVTs we’re originally designed with two 8x10 cabs. Ultimate bass tone. To use an SVT without the 8x10 is counter productive. All bass amps by all manufacturers are designed with the SVT in mind.

    I bought an Ampeg RB108 as a practice amp a few months ago. I am impressed enough to consider an RB115 or RB210 as a gig/jam amp. Very impressed with Yamaha ownership of Ampeg. I used a 1969 Bassman w/2-15" cab for 50 years. I'm 67. Too big for me now!

    I've run other amps, but at the end of the day, it's Ampeg for me. I have a PF-50T for home recording and an SVT-7 Pro for live use. All I do is bump the bass knob to about 3 o'clock and cut the treble to about 11 o'clock and that's it. Nothing else. Perfect tone.

  • @JAMPROSOUND

    My main bass rig was a first generation SVT3 Pro and an 810e. Great rig, lots of versatile tones and tons of power. For larger shows, I'd rent a second 810 and another amp, lay an 810 down on the side of the cabinet at each side of the stage in a side-fill configuration. Tons of great coverage for the band/stage and the level could actually come down. If you grab an SVT3 Pro, try to find the original. Other than the occasional oxidized footswitch jack (from not being used), I never had any issues that others report.

    I'm using a BA-108 v2 for home playing nowadays. It's the first bass practice amp I've heard that has a big amp tone to it, and it's the proper "Ampeg tone". I saw they they are phasing the line out to be replaced with the Rocket series and I'm a little concerned that they might be doing this to cater to players who want the "modern" bass tones. I wish I could find a comparison video of any of the BA series vs a same-wattage example of the new Rocket series to hear if they've gotten off track or not.

    I'm from St.Louis where we saw almost nothing but Ampeg on every stage and in every basement and garage next to the Alvarez and Crate stuff. I've heard probably every Ampeg made from the 90s to now and plenty of the older stuff and I love them all. I currently own an SVT-CL running either double 8x10's or 8x10/2x15, an SVP-CL preamp in the studio rack, and a Portabass PB250 head with the pb110 in the studio and the pb210 for light gigs. Also got a 410he and a 115e kickin around - I've run a 3pro and a B4R through that setup on different occasions. And in a garage somewhere there's an old SVT 70T 1x15 combo amp. That T series is equivalent to your old Peavey firebass and Max series amps imo. Even the old BA15 combo amps you see EVERYWHERE, usually with a crackly output jack, sound awesome. I've never heard a bad ampeg. The new portaflex's are awesome, the PF500 with the compressor is dope. Love the flip tops. Can't wait to try these rockets. The original B100R's with the diamond cloth, insane.
    Maybe I'm biased, but when I'm told not to bring an amp - there will be backline - and I show up, and I see whatever bullshit is on stage that doesn't say Ampeg on it, I frown. I occasionally get surprised with cool amps, but they're far and few between. No I show up and they almost always have like an SWR workingman, or a GK backline 600, if you're lucky it might be an old peavey, but nah it's probably the old fender rumble. If you go to gigs in the city you get these doctors bustin out their GK1001RB with the neo cabs or like the mark bass gear and shit. You never walk onto the gig and see Aguilar, or EBS. Nah. You get the old trace elliot, no not the cool one, the OLD trace elliot. You know which one I'm talking about.
    But when I see that A logo, it doesn't matter if it's some solid state blue line T series shit from the 90s they found on craigslist for $75, or the most maxed out svt4-pro bi amped stereo rig into 4 8x10's shit money can buy. You know it's going to rock.

    There's something I don't really understand how to do. Is it possible to use a preamp/DI like your Sansamp through an amp and keep as close a sound as possible to the sound coming out of the DI as what's coming out of the speaker on your cab? Do you have to keep the levels on the bass amp flat? Do you need to run your signal chain into the effects loop? What I would like to do is be able to run out of the DI directly into front of house but use my amp on stage as a monitor and be able to hear what's going to the PA more or less but I always think that my amp is also coloring the signal. Or is it just better to run the signal chain into the amp, get the sound you want coming out if the amp and then use the DI from the amp?
    I would love to have some fantastic amp like an SVT and all that, but I just can't afford anything like that and using a preamp pedal seems like a more affordable shortcut to getting a sound I want, but no one ever tells you how to use one in a gig setting (or even in a band practice setting when you're running through another amp).
    I would love to see a video on how to use these things when playing in as group - getting your sound, being able to hear it and figuring out what works best alongside the other musicians in the group (the mix).
    I hope this makes sense.

    • @TylerSpicer
      @TylerSpicer  2 года назад +1

      The cleanest signal will be to run it into the effects loop. I did that this weekend so the backline festival amp is just a power amp and speaker/monitor for you. I think you’re best off doing this as you know your tone is consistent Show to show and you intended at the FOH. I’ll add that idea for a video to my list! Thank you for the suggestion! T

      @@rome8180 I think it's stupid to think that nothing will ever be better. Even right now... Darkglass, Genzler, and Bergantino are better than Ampeg. Ampeg shot themselves in the foot for not creating the revamped Rocket Bass sooner. You really expect me to believe that they couldn't create the RB Line sooner? They just didn't want their cheap stuff to sound as good as their expensive amps, because their high end amps are more profitable. It's stupid to think that something that was created in 1969 can't be made in a fraction of the size, and cheaper too.
