This sounds good. I remember years ago wanting to get a Sunn Colosseum because Chris Squire was using it, and in those days. the sound I heard from the Ampeg was "thump thump". This sounds much better. Back then, I used a RIC 4001 with RotoSound Roundwound Swing 66 strings.I still use those strings to this day. Sunn is gone. I've gone 5 string now, using an Ibanez BTB-575 with active Bartolini II pickups and and an Ibanez Soundgear SR1305 with active/passive Nordstram Big Single pickups.I love the BTB575, but the SR has a thinner neck which is much easier on my fingers. When I can afford it, O'd like a RIC 4003 5 string with the triangle pickups, or a Warwick bass.
Thanks! There are a couple of pedals that do that. Probably the most famous one is the Tech 21 VT Bass. There's also Ampeg's own pedals, the Darkglass Vintage series, One Control Silver Peg, Broughton SV-Pre, etc.
I liked the Brought SV-Pre, but the best so far is the Master Effects Super 300. It just sounds right. When I turn it off I immediately want it on again. Check it out!
Hi Ivan! Love your videos! I bought this amazing plugin after watching you dial in this wide range of great tones. Plugin Alliance/BrainWorx also have a superb emulation of the punchy Gallien-Kruger 800-RB. It’s fun to put pedals in front of these before going into your DI. Comps, EQs, chorus and especially clean-blended drive or fuzz. Cheers!
You get the thumbs up and bell treatment...Plugin sounds good. But damn you man!... Now I have to buy an Ampeg SVT? Here we go - on ampeg svt demo/review marathon first! I am srating at the Ampeg website. Cheers!
Ivan, espectacular info!
Awesome. People talk about bass a lot but amp talk and classic settings is something that should be discussed more. Thumbs up
Thanks, Alexis! Glad you liked it!
So helpful. I didn't realize how much difference the amp sim makes in the mix! Thanks for making these videos!
Thanks for watching! Happy to help!
Very informative, thanks!
Great video, Ivan! You had me at 2:47! My VT Bass DI is back on my second pedalboard. The sound in a mix is just so good.
Thanks, Bert! The VT DI is great 💪🏽💪🏽
Great explanation from bassist!
Happy to hear you liked it!
Amazing vídeo Ivan !
Glad to hear you liked it, Marcio!
You cant go wrong with an Ampeg bass amp !!!
Classic stuff! Thanks for watching!

Love the sound of a roaring SVT. If only the entire setup wasn’t so heavy 🥲🥲🥲
Nice video Ivan. What pedals can be used to get an Ampeg tone in live situations?

Thanks for the suggestion!
