It has always amazed me that the Easterlings, Haradrim, and other mannish Sauron forces could tolerate being on the same field, let alone working in tandem with Orc's and Trolls.
Probably afraid that Sauron would turn the Orcs & Trolls on them or more concerned with how much loot they could get. Gondor had off & on been at odds with the Haradrim & Easterings for centuries.
@@DominionSorcerer True some of them were undoubably evil but Sam wondered during the ambush in Ithilien what had drew the dead man from his home and if he had always been evil.
@@romandacil3984 Fear and worship, though I would argue that none of the Men following Sauron were _evil._ Rather, I think more they were misguided and kept under Sauron's sway by centuries of careful manipulation. Which shows in how easily Gondor was able to, after a fashion, make peace with them after Sauron's final defeat.
The reason why there are so little easterlings featured in the Gondorian battles is that Sauron ordered them to attack Erebor so at the time Minas Tirith is besieged most of them are actually preoccupied cutting off the armies of light from potential reinforcements coming from the lonely mountain
He did have an army of Easterlings attack the Kingdom of Dale. But in the ROTK Chapter "Battle of Pelennor Fields", Tolkien stated that "Gothmog Lt of Morgul flung them into the fray; Easterlings with Axes & Variags of Khand". There was an Army of Easterlings & Orcs in Anorien that was suppossed to bar help from Rohan but was waylaid by the Rohirrim after the Pelennor and fled back towards CAir Andros. Also there was a force of Easterlings & Orcs that tried to Ambush Aragorn's Army in Ithilien as it marched to the Black Gate. Another Army of Easterlings also crossed the Undeeps into the Wold Of Rohan but were met by Ents.
You can also Easterlings standing next to a catapult right in the beginning of this breaking of the gate scene when the scene opens with the armies of Mordor firing flaming projectiles.
2:11 Actually, The Orcs in the tower are actually Easterlings, I can recognize their weapons, Is a Halberd, Orcs don't really use such weapons like the Easterlings, The Orcs mostly use Pikes, swords, and long spears. The Halberd can be seen. I also see the Orcs are mixed with the Easterlings there.
Good catch. I had never noticed it, despite having seen that masterpiece over a thousand times in my life (my favorite movie of all times). We need a complete version of that diamond of trilogy, with all the deleted/unused scenes in 4K Blu-ray.
One of my subscribers clued me in so I had to go back and take a slow motion look. Same as you I had seen these movies a 100 times but never noticed it. I really wished they had added all of the missing characters and monsters in the extended versions
@@romandacil3984 Cool. On my channel you can find the rare deleted scene of Aragorn VS Sauron at the Black Gate, remastered and improved in 4K by me, using some parts of the movie.
I spotted here some Easterlings, when Gondor was defending, they were rushing in the background, is kinda hard to see bc it fast but here at The Lord of the Rings (2003) - Battle for Minas Tirith - Part 2 [4K] at the minute 3:41. They are rushing towards Gondorian Army
I didn't see them at first either. You really had to slow down the speed to get a clear picture of them. I wish Jackson had them close ups of them fighting Aragorn, Gimli, Legolas ect.
Hadn't thought about that one. The only time the Haradrim get used in battle it seems is when they are attacked by Faramir's Rangers, the charge of the Rohirrim and the arrival of Aragorn. Should go back and see if they are used at any other time. I really wanted ro see the Men of Khand and the Half Troll like men from the book.
The Orcs also chant "Death to man!" or something of the sort as they march up to Minas Tirith, with their commander going "Louder" every time they chant. Imagine being an Easterling marching up to Mins Tirith and your allies are very non-specific about wanting your whole race to die.
I'm glad I did this video. The Easterlings appear far more than I ever thought. I wish they had been used more like the Haradrim and fought some of the heroes in Jacksons movies.
Okay so uh.. I saw your video, and yeah. Also, the ones where you seen them in the Siege Tower were just Orcs. I used zoom to see closer and nope, not Easterlings. Just orcs. But I did spotted a few..even some in the rohirrim charge 50% yes and not. Like.. Also you may want to read carefully because I am not good at English. So, When the trolls burst through and they start to attack the Gondorians, RIGHT for a short split of second, when the trolls in scene stand before the door who got destroyed, there can be seen Easterlings entering inside for a small split second (need to slow down and also use space to stop the video if need). And when after the gates break down, and the both Mordor Orcs and Gondorian soldiers impact with each other in battle, there can be seen at least 1-3 Easterlings charging in the background in the battle(easily to recognize if its on slow and by the Easterlings halberd + shield + helmet horns). And when that Gondorian soldier impales with the spear a Orc to the ground, in front of him are 2 soldiers, these 2 soldiers are Easterlings who are standing with the Halberds raised ready to strike right in front of the Gondorian Soldier. Also when there were like quick shots of soldiers running past that Gondorian, those were actually Easterling. (Prove me If wrong) And the second, when the Rohirrim charge and impact with the Mordor Orcs, when they are seen riding through after Eowyn I remember her name yells as she rides her horse, first there will be some orcs at first getting killed but, if you look really close and slowly on the video(I recommend a full quality video) after the orcs, there can be seen ALSO some Easterlings getting knocked to the ground and killed as the Rohirrim riders get through. Oh and BTW, before the Rohirrim riders like..how to say.. Get through, there will be a few seconds of a scene where Rohirrim riders are with the camera posed at horses's legs while running, if SLOW and pause, there can be seen 1 Easterling left behind of the charge. (I recognized him by the Halberd since it was a little different then a Orc one + saw the helmet horns for a split second). 50% if I'm right. 50% If I'm not right. (This video has been posted 2 years ago, yet, I just wanted to say! :D) Ur welcome!)
Hey, thanks. Other viewers pointed those out to me too. I had to go back and really slow things down. Blink and you miss it. Wish Jackson had made them more prominent in the fighting but one can't have everything.
@romandacil3984 👍👍👍. Also by curiosity, you caught the Easterlings at like the Rohirrim charge? Curious because, I am neither sure if those were truly Easterlings so I want a confirmation to..
@@Random_Pirate_Fan I just went back and watched ROTK again and slowed down the action on the Rohirrim charge. Didn't see any Easterlings but can't be 100% sure. Merry & Eowyn kill a couple of Haradrim (knocked off their elephant) when they get knocked off their horse.
This just depresses me that rings of power wanted to include people of colour in a disrespectful way to Tolkien’s lore and not a more accurate approach like the esterlings or haradrim. They could of explored the unknown aspects of harad or rhun and could of given it more depth to the screen, but nope you can’t relate to character if their skin colour is different because all white people felt related to a dwarf and a immortal elf with superior aspects.
For me the Rings of Power went wrong the minute they made Galadriel into an Xena Warrior Princess type figure. As far as the skin color thing goes, I didn't care either way as it stands to reason that Dwarves, Hobbits and even Elves in the Far South would be darker but in the Northwest of Middle-earth they would be paler in complexion. I do wish Tolkien had explored Rhun and Harad more and learnt more about the wizards who went to the Far East or about Aragorn's journey into the South. Tolkien was always tinkering with the Silmarillion and was never satisfied with his own work.
The amount of times I've seen these movies and not noticed that haha
I know, I watch the movies once a year and even go back to get certain color schemes for painting and never noticed it.

Cool, I thought so. It's too bad Jackson didn't use them in close ups fighting the heroes. I would have liked to see the Men of Khand too.
Disagree. Not being funny you can literally see orcs with halberds in the initial marching scene as they approach minas tirith.
