Classical Chinese architecture is about dealing with opposites such as inside and outside, light and dark, and natural and geometric, which are meant to come together to form a unity. A perfect round circle, as shown by the full moon, unites both opposites and thus symbolizes perfection and harmony. A circular doorway is therefore called a moon gate.

In China, foreigners can walk on the streets, in the park holding a camera doing video recording and speak her own language so loudly and yet no one stop or bother them. See this is freedom in China. I remember walking in India New Delhi on the streets. The minute you get out of the taxi there will sure be beggars following you and begging. There are sure to have people following you and wanted to be your sight seeing guide, 3 wheelers rider wanted to bring you for shopping and touting people trying to sell you something. I remember when I was in New Delhi Connaught Place. I can't even enjoy myself. While I was walking, on my right there was 2 kid beggars following me and begging all the way. On my left there was a man holding like 10 sun glasses on his hands and keep asking me to buy from him. 3 wheelers rider following shouting sir! sir! shopping! shopping! good price, good price. And they are so persistent and they can keep following you and make you very irritated. But in China, tourists can really enjoy wandering and walking anywhere freely without anyone bothering you.

Was in China in 2013 we also stayed at the Marriott in Shanghai, one evening we decided to go over into the old neighborhood located across the bridge in back of the Marriott at the end of the block. The neighborhood was where the common everyday working people lived as we were walking around at no time did we feel threatened the people were super friendly and that was the way it was wherever we went in China.

Welcome to China, the Chinese people welcome you! There is no political correctness in China like in Western countries, and China is also very safe! Don't be deceived by your media, saying that China's cameras violate your human rights and freedom, etc. This is not true. It is because of these things that bad people will stay away from you, so China is currently the safest country in the world, no doubt about it!

zhujiajiao is ok if you never seen a chinese water town, but it's too commercialized imo and not that impressive architecturally. it's only popular because it's a metro destination from shanghai. the 144 hr visa isn't limited to one city in a lot of cases. if you entered shanghai, you could have gone anywhere within the two neighboring provinces. a one hour bullet train to suzhou would have been better for a water town experience, or slightly further hangzhou. there is a chinese saying, the sky has heaven and the earth has hangzhou and suzhou. marco polo wrote hangzhou was the most beautiful city in china, but that was way back then lol.
same for shanghai in general, it's way too commercialized imo. a lot of other cities in china have more character, but if you like big modern metropolis, shanghai is as good as anywhere else if not better, albeit 2-3x more expensive than most other cities in china
    😅

Ive been there twice before covid , it bring memory😊.
The Maglev is actually built by Germany Siemens and it is the 1st even before the China HSR.
In contrary many people assume , China actually purchase many best technology anyone can provide for example the Shanghai metro line 1 was built with American Westinghouse company. And when I went to Huangshan the cable car is from Swiss company.
And also some olympic building in Beijing the architect company who win the bidding were western architect company.
    China purchasing power is crazy.

This fully shows that China's development has led to the development of the world, especially the Western countries, in the past decades, China has made a lot of money, at the same time, China has learned a lot of advanced technology and experience, which is win-win. But now the Western society, especially the United States, cannot keep up with China's speed, and they begin to try to stop China's development, which is extremely selfish and unwise.

Zhujiajiao's advantage is it's close to Shanghai (reachable by the Metro, even bike: less than 2hrs' ride from the Hongqiao Airport), others are also peaceful and beautiful.
And I want to say, comparing to some other travelers, you guys really known how to enjoy(spend) life (money)! You've already been to more corners in Zhujiajiao than I, a personal from Shanghai have. 🤣

There's a nice app for all the metro systems in the major cities of China called Metroman. I still have 2 years left on my 10 year long stay visa, so I would recommend going through the process of getting that. Not too difficult, and well worth it if you travel frequently in SE Asia. So much to see, and so many places worth visiting in China. Guilin, Zhangjiajie, Yunnan Province......and the list goes on.

Venice of East boat trip was awesome. Steam fish is the best chinese dish, nice to see karol enjoying eating steam fish. Maglev train journey is superb touching speed of 300 kmph plus. You both covered Shanghai trip very well. Appreciate your hardwork & passion to travel around the world. Thank you very much to both of you for sharing priceless video.

Zhujiajiang was beautiful, but I think other water towns are considered the 'Venice of the East,' particularly Suzhou and Hangzhou, but these towns seem more touristy than Zhujiajiang, which has more of a laid-back and quiet charm as you noted. I hope when you go back to China you do a sort of 'water tour' where you look at the towns along the Grand Canal, which was built around 1,400 years ago, and maybe also tour Dujiangyan, the oldest waterworks still in use today. That would be a nice way to make a 'splash' on your next visit!

Reason that this maglev train cant' derail is that the part of the train (at its bottom) that runs on the track has a cross-section in the shape of a "C" - it clasps about 180-270 degrees around the track (without actually touching the track due to levitation). The levitation is effected by running the same magnetic charge on the track and on that part of the train that runs on it - each of them repels the other and so they do not come in contact.
