    Hi @therealsprometheus, cool video!
    The reason we made the first Puqpress was one of our friends who worked as a Barista but started to develop RSI in her wrist.
    Later we found the entire team was more consistent and overal flavor improved too :) But this was all in coffee bar environment.
    The Q2 is our most advanced product and a bit of an overkill indeed for home use.
    We are planning to make a small and more affordable version for home use later on. (But you didn't get that from us.)
    Cool channel mate! + 1 follower!
    Best regards from Amsterdam!

    Great, helpful video. I’m one of those rare home users with a modest espresso set up (Rocket Mozzafiato Evo R, Eureka Mignon Oro XL - all because of space constraints) who purchased a Puq Press Q2 to avoid exacerbating an old repetitive strain injury. Although I was a pretty proficient tamper, the daily process began to take a toll and increase my pain, so I decided $1200 was a cheap price to pay - given the alternative. It works like a charm, is SO consistent, and my morning routine is now pain-free. The biggest surprise, other than the sudden lack of discomfort which I didn’t realize was steadily increasing, was the impact the super consistent tamping had on the quality of my espresso shots. They are smoother, more mellow, and extract more consistently. The Puq Press was worth every damn cent. For me.

    After doing 14 shots in 4 minutes at work today, the Puqpress looks like a machine made of dreams and sunshine. I'll admit, I use the wrong part of my palm pretty regularly, but I use the technique that's easier on the shoulder and arm. This though...to never have to worry about my shoulder or wrist again...

    Gotta smash that like button as soon as the video starts. I work in a high volume cafe and the puqpress is really intriguing. Spending time training people to tamp is frustrating. It seems like time would be way better spent on other skills more important to being a coffee professional. Eliminating the tamping variable would make the dialing in process a lot more streamlined too. I feel like just for those reasons, $1,100 is totally worth it in the long run for the cafe setting.
    Keep up the good work sir. The information in these videos is outstanding but they're also probably the prettiest coffee videos on RUclips.

      For sure. Cafes can benefit from that, especially ones with lots of employees and high traffic. It’s crazy that they are trying to market this to home as something needed though.

    Great video. I have shoulder issues and bought a Puqpress Q2. It’s the difference between being able to make espresso and not as I couldn’t do without it. I can understand that if you don’t have a problem with tamping, it’s not needed. One other thing of note is that if you’re using say a double spouted filter and a naked portafilter, you can’t just swap between the two. It either fits one or the other. You have to adjust the Puqpress which is about 10 mins work!

    • @Sprometheus
      @Sprometheus  4 года назад

      For sure! I feel like physical limitations are definitely the reason why I’d see them at home. And yeah, it’s a bit odd why they require a little adjustment even when using the same basket, but such is all this new tech stuff.

      The Real Sprometheus Hi. Just out of interest, if I wanted to add another tool to supplement the puqpress, which would you recommend between the Push Tamper and the OCD. I presume the OCD is better than Push Tamper for distribution but not for tamping? So the OCD can do both but the Push Tamper can only tamp - is that right? Thanks.

    • @Sprometheus
      @Sprometheus  4 года назад

      Rizwan Walji In my opinion I’d recommend the OCD because the motion is more a twist with a slight push to get the puck to tamp. Seems easier on the wrist and shoulder. Plus, between the two the shots tamped with the OCD were more balanced and better tasting than the shots with just the Push tamper.

    One thing that has struck me is this. I do only have a 51 mm basket which without any funnels etc, gets quite ful already at 15 grams and above. For this reason I hold the portafilter under the grinder and taps it constantly during the grind. When its done, I just tap the filter a few times or even spreads the surface abit with the hand before doing the nornal tamp. This way I almost NEVER get any sprizers and the shots ends up very consistant. Can this technique by tapping the portafilter during the whole coffee-ground filling process, be the reason ?

    • @Sprometheus
      @Sprometheus  4 года назад

      Yeah I can see that being an issue. But I feel like a notebook should be kept to track that and also maybe more of a grind change adjustment than a tamper adjustment to keep everyone more on the same page. The only tricky part is if you have more than one coffee on bar and just one tamper.

    Spro, are you sure they're aiming this at the home barista with more money than sense? I'm definitely one of those (I've got a dual boiler machine, acaia lunar scale, stepless grinder dialed in for espresso, and another stepped grinder for French press and Aeropress, etc., etc.) and I couldn't justify that expense. Especially as it would render my personalized Reg Barber tamper moot lol
    But seriously, that last point is key - a big part of the romance of going all in on home espresso is the tamping act. Why would I kill that? I might as well pick up one of those Breville machines that will grind and tamp for me

    • @Sprometheus
      @Sprometheus  4 года назад +1

      Yeah I was pretty shocked to see this machine for sale on the La Marzocco home website. So they are aiming for home baristas. I think there are definitely cases of people who want the craft espresso experience without the work, and automatic machines are getting more popular. So this is their way of trying to maybe tip the scales a bit back in LMs direction. Just like adding that new Swift grinder for home that is going to be maybe $4-5,000 for a grinder/tamper combo. Hoping I can get a press tester of that one. But may be hard after they see what I said here haha.

    There is flat out no way this is a worthwhile purchase for a home. Putting aside the fact that tamping is one of the joys of the process, it's also a fairly quick easy to learn part. This is thing is for cafés, where speed and consistency acros different staff is crucial.

    i look at this like an expensive toy that it would take me a lot of hard work to get and I will use twice and then put it somewhere to collect dust, especially for 2 reasons. First I really enjoy all the process of making a good espresso and second it looks boring to use even in a cafe.
    If i have that crazy amount of money and i could only used on a tamper I will comision a really cool and over price, costume hand made tamper that will look better and I could be proud to show and use.
    If i have all that money i will probably a upgrade my grinder or kettle, or get a water filter

      Great comment and I agree completely. I wasn’t disappointed to see it go. It’s definitely kind of a show piece, but not really a stand out in general. I wouldn’t use it regularly at all.
      It absolutely takes away from the craft feel, but I can see it being useful for those with physical limitations on tamping. But in the end, i think it’ll be a flop in the home market. Sometimes I feel like these companies don’t see how excited people are about the full hands on experience. Look at how popular the Flair and handgrinders are!?
