You're right. The old covers for PJO is nostalgic and great but I actually like the new PJO covers.
I love the new covers because they actually match the og covers of HOO. I believe they were done by the same artist.

@@kyureisui oh rly?? 😅😅I didn’t know I guess the art style sorta changed? or maybe because the OG was more on minimalistic designs while the new covers had more things going on with it. Yes, the original covers will always remain special but IMO the new covers and the HOO compliments each other’s designs more. Thanks for telling me tho.

one thing i appreciate about the heroes of olympus cover changes is that annabeth gets to be on the cover of mark of athena. that's her book and she deserves to be front and center

The new Percy Jackson spines add up to a complete NY city skyline. I think they look awesome on the shelf and I prefer them to the old ones.
A Court Of Silver Flames is UGLY. I hate it. It's interesting because I don't think the art itself is ugly. Like I think on its own, it's nice line art. But with the background color and the way the text is... it just does not work as a book cover.
The newer Percy Jackson covers are pretty cool, and their spines do make a mosaic. They're more for display purposes. But you're right, the original covers are the best!

As far as Percy Jackson goes. The originals are GOATS 100%. So well done and they just draw you into the magical world with their illustrations. I especially like that each sort of sticks with a theme of one color to differentiate themselves from each other as well as set the mood of the book. I’m so nostalgic for them but I still think the new ones are good. It’s interesting to see how the new collection stays faithful to the original covers in some ways while still revamping themselves into a fairly cohesive continuous collage for the “collection” effect. I actually just bought the collection today because I respect it so much so now I own both styles.
The rest of the Riordan cover remakes can go die in a hole though. Not that they’re bad in their own right, but they arguably don’t fit the series that they’re portraying that well and then when you look at them as replacements for the gorgeous original covers on top of this it just leaves you questioning: why?! Why would anyone do this?
Some times I don’t like when they change the covers, because sometimes I’ve got older covers it’s mismatch with my old series that annoys me... sorry.... happy reading to u😊🎃👻

I have a soft spot for the OG Percy covers from when I was younger but mine were the UK covers rather than the U.S (for reference it’s the series where Lightening Thief is yellow with the Minotaur, Sea of Monsters green and so on)
I like The Diviners cover with the string and pearls 🤗 never read the book but that cover is intriguing me. A book with one bad and one pretty cover is The Humans by Matt Haig. Idk which came first but there’s one all white with just a nose and the other has a pretty night sky with a dog 😊 I paid a lil more to get the dog cover but worth it haha

I’ve noticed at the book store the new ACOTAR covers are in the adult sci-fi/fantasy section instead of YA finally
And all of the Gemma Doyle books from Libba Bray all match and always have; them not getting the diviner’s ones right makes no sense
I'm really curious to see you reacting to foreign editions of books and seeing different covers that are not UK or US! 💗 Also, I don't know why but I kinda like A Court of Silver Flames cover aaaaaahh... But I much prefer the original design, hope they change it back to the original lol💛

the uk covers of percy jackson and the olympians are gross like weird actor changes for percy on ever single cover and weird colour choices just gross. the heroes of olympus and trials of apollo covers aren't much better but they make more sense than the pjo covers
Exactly! We in India have the UK covers mostly and the Percy Jackson covers are just so bad. I mean why can't you keep same covers everywhere?

the new PJO or the anniversary version rather, also makes a muriel on the spines of the books just to let you know! unfortunately i was late to the game and only have this version i really wanted the original but im happy just to be able to read it 🤩🤩

You should look up the German covers of A court of thornes and roses, they are so amazing! Much more beautiful than the old and the new cover in my opinion
With the New PJO books the spines do make an image, and it's of like a city skyline.
The new US Graceling covers are pretty nice, but sadly the new UK ones are not too my taste in the slightest (I won't say they're bad exactly as some people will probably love them but I am definitely not one of those people). I loved the previous UK covers so it's a real shame to not be able to continue the set. I'm hoping to get hold of the US version for the latest book, though it's harder right now with some of the biggest US sites (Amazon, B&N) currently not doing international delivery.

I like how simple the older covers are for the graceling series but the new covers are much more vibrant and fresh imo

It makes me so happy to see someone else crocheting! It’s a hobby of mine and I don’t know anyone in person who does it so seeing someone else enjoy it is exciting. I make blankets, hats, coasters, stuffed pumpkins and polar bears, etc. I’m currently working on a cardigan. I like listening to audiobooks while crocheting too
I haven’t been brave enough to try a piece of clothing yet like a cardigan so props to you!❤️

I personally prefer the new PJO covers because I just love John Rocco's artwork on all of the Riordanverse and it makes me happy that all my books covers have continuity and look like they go together

Hi Ashley! I really enjoy you talking about the cover of the books but I enjoy more the crocheting thing hahaha. And I'm so inspired right now to do a crochet.
I cannot find a single person who likes the A Court of Silver Flames cover like I do 😭 God it just really reminds me of all the mythos Sarah read and researched in order to write this series and mythology is so nostalgic to me that I just loveee the cover redesign for it but I can’t find anyone who agrees with me 🥺 I mean sure they won’t match the copies I have of the series, but it’s worth it because it finally looks age appropriate for the audience it’s intended to gage. Hopefully I find more people who like the cover design because I’m so happy about it and all I see is complete trashing of it which is kinda depressing.

Ember is a brownish cover with a sword on the front and an outline of a cat-like animal in orange, and Savage Song is a white cover with grey droplets and red writing.
I personally like the covers that I have even more than the ones you showed here 😊

I will literally not be purchasing a copy of A Court of Silver Flames because of the cover (unless they do a reversible cover or give an extra dustjacket like they did for Carry On) I will just read it through my library and never look at that cover ever again. To me, the cover even somehow looks unfinished like a Work in Progress or Mockup that still needs loads of revisions. Honestly with all the fanart Charlie Bowater did of ACOTAR and all the work she's getting illustrating book covers, it's insane she didn't get the gig to redesign them.

Looking at the new covers for TMI again, I don't hate them as much, but I almost lost my shit I lost my copy of City of Heavenly Fire. And so I was going all over the place online trying to find the old covers, cause I still had the 1st 5 in the original covers. And then just when I was about to lose it, I found my original copy of book 6. I will say though I never liked in the Dark Artifices Series how one spine as some red in it, and the other two or both grayscale. I like how the colors of the new PJ books match, in the old ones they didn't really go together imo.
Fun fact, the new acotar covers are being put in adult sci-fi, while the old covers are still placed in ya. Working at a bookstore, there has been a lot of talk about sarah j mass' new book crescent moon (an adult sci-fi) and how they are trying to rebrand her as an author of more adult fiction rather than ya!

Rick Riordan is the only author for whom I import every single one of his books to get the US covers. (Okay, I didn't for the two mythology books or the short story collections, but I have for every novel.) The (original) US ones are so much better than the UK versions.

I totally agree with the ACOSF cover, I think the art on itself isn't bad, but it doesn't match nesta or cassian at all, and why the mask? and with the grey background and text it's just terrible.

I dont really like the ACOSF cover and the rest of the series new covers at all but I can live with it buuuuuuuuuuuut what really gets me going is that they did this in the middle of the series. It seems like a cash grab because if I want a complete looking series I have to rebuy the previous three books and I would bet that that was something they thought about when they did it. (I'm not mad at Sarah though more at her publishers, this wasn't necessarily her choice.)

So many artists have made better fanmade covers for acosf (starsthatdream on Instagram made a really good one that matches the og trilogy and has Nesta on the cover like a Feyre) and a few have already said they’re gonna try to make and print dust jackets so I will definitely be buying them.
Definitely will consider buying a different dust jacket from an artist online just to cover up the photoshop grey one LOL 💞
Not necessarily a full cover change, but one of the changes I'm most disappointed of was the 30th special edition of Robert Jordan's Eye of the World. Wheel of Time is one of fave book series of all time and I was so SO much looking forward to the 30th anniversary edition, but the only thing they added was the silver, glossy cover and a new symbol on the hardback (plus red spine letters) and it didn't even look THAT good. The silver was weird, dull-ish. Apart from that, everything else was the same.
I dunno, I just expected a lot more, it was so underwhelming, and especially for something like a 30th anniversary. And with so much other more beautiful special edition of books coming out (ones that have illustrations, endpaper artworks, sprayed edges, etc) I feel like the 30th special edition wasn't really worth my money.

@@vivamurio honestly the marketing team behind the Wheel of Time books needs to step up their game. Look at how beautiful the Dune special edition was. Now THAT'S how you do a reprint.
What really confuses me about the new ACOTAR covers, AREN'T THEY SUPPOSED TO HAVE UNLIMITED ADVISORS AND LOTS OF PEOPLE TO TELL THEM THIS LOOKS ABSOLUTELY BAD? There's also the fact that as far as I can tell, the bookish community HATES them as well. All they had to do was a focus group and they would have known THIS WAS A BAD IDEA 😑😑😑

Maybe thematic content of SJM books is adult in parts, but tropes and writing style are definitely YA. The paperback color schemes are still very YA and I don’t think they hit the mark when considering an adult sf/f audience. Idk. Not impressed.

I like the character art on the spines of HoO but the covers are disappointing. I saw them in the bookstore before I saw them online and was disappointed pulling them off the shelf.
Agreed! I do like seeing more of the characters, but the art itself compared to the original is not my fav. (No shade to the artist though! I appreciate them creating them either way!) 😋
