    Squishing your stern to make it more slicey dates back to the early days of kayaking. From cutting seams to running over kayaks with trucks, many methods have been used. Here is one I came up with to make a controlled adjustment to the deck of a kayak without altering the hull.

These videos are how to guides for improving, updating, and upgrading your outfitting. These videos are especially useful for updating old school whitewater kayaks which are famously uncomfortable.

    Thinking of doing the same with a Jackson Super Fun. Not sure I will be able to control how much it will crush and wondering about skipping the foam pillar. I am afraid it will be all or nothing with the crush. Any thoughts?

    • @AlexBarham
      @AlexBarham  2 года назад

      You can certainly try it without shaving the pillar, but all control of the squish will go out of the window, and now your stuck trying to carve the pillar to fit back in

    Alex, would fun runner 60 be good candidate for this, for slicier stern while still surfing well?
    I have a jed M and now Rewind M, and I’m 140-145 lbs. Maybe should have got the small rewind, but I don’t own any river runner (or intend to) so I wanted to err on that side with it. Also the small was only available in pink at my store. I had the FR originally more for ocean wave surfing with the hard edges but now I live 4 hours from the ocean.
    Really appreciate all your content, just discovered you and learning a ton.

      I've thought about doing it to one lol. Never really liked them as made, and they don't have any resale value so why not?

    I also want to do it with my Axiom 9.0 but I am scared that it will pop out to the old shape and I ruined it.

      If it pops back it isn't ruined. Not a tom of risk

    debating on picking up a 9.0 and giving this a try. Had one and sold it for what I bought it for, but this has me thinking....
    Loved the riverunability and high float on it, but I can't see ever getting the tail down on it (even at 230 excluding full wisconsin winter gear)

      I'm a huge fan of the 8.5 I would get one of them and paddle it stock over squishing a 9

    Awesome video! Any thoughts on repairing an oil can beneath the seat on an axiom with the playboat outfitting?

    • @AlexBarham
      @AlexBarham  4 года назад +1

      These are tricky. Most of the Axioms were made with the Countour Playboat seat with the welded in track. If that is the case you'll have to get creative. Maybe try wedging foam under the seat.
      This is how I do it in standard boats with a hollow, roto-molded seat. ruclips.net/video/W78cictcq4s/видео.html

    Propane torch and a Honda Accord works too. Careful. The boat can shoot out backwards.

      does it pop back up if you leave the boat on the sun, or is the deformation premanent
      im thinking about crushing the stern on my prijon hurricane, is it same process squishing blow molded plastic vs rotomolded ?

    • @thomasjameskay

      What effect did it have on Braaap performance generally? I have a Braaap and can sink the stern but require a good eddyline or a little wave to help (I’m quite light). Thinking I could turn it ‘Party’ but not sure what the trade-off will be for bigger water performance. Any thoughts?

      Same idea in reverse. Pull the pillar and add foam on top. Heat the deck and re-install the pillar.
