@Sam Tidwell: _" aggressively call me brother"_ I'm dying laughing. I remember how that was a term of endearment a couple decades ago. Now it really is more often an aggressive thing most often used to imply some sort of right wing racist comaraderie. But the reason it's funny here is because Sammy is not _that guy._
I did. I'm not the most dedicated student out there, so I haven't really finished it yet, but it for sure deepened my knowledge about guitar and gave me a couple of excercises that I do every now and then.
Do you get belts like a real samurai? Or is that another warrior culture that does that? Lol I'm ruining my own joke. I should be practicing and not commenting.
The guy who wrote that jingle sold it for a flat rate. He also wrote the "Here Comes the King" Budweiser song, and he still gets a cut every time they make their Christmas commercial.
I thought the reason that room vibrated when I played an a major power-chord was through the sheer majesty of Rock. Then you have to go bringing science in to it.
That bass harp/guitar is one of the most beautiful guitars I've seen. Not psyched about the carbon fiber thing, but they created an amazing looking instrument that looks like a naturally occurring piece of wood that they just attached strings to.
I have one of their acoustic basses it is a 6 string with a low F# B E A D G tuning. It is definitely loud acoustically compared to many other acoustics. But they will custom build options, as mine has Both a piezo and a bass bar pickup setup each with its own controls and outputs.
It looks like real wood because it is real wood. It's a very thin veneer that's purely there for aesthetics, but it's real wood and they have a huge selection of very rare and fancy woods to choose from.
Me: Sammy G plays it, kinda cool, maybe you can use it one day Also me 3 min later: Jimmy Page plays it?! Wow, I need this! Good demo, Sammy G, love this series and your video content in general! Btw, how‘s your progress in learning german?
Sounds like a really interesting way to save the space and time for a Bass and Guitar if you needed both in a situation. Now that I think of it, I could perfectly see Billy Sheehan and Steve Vai double teaming on one of these haha
4:16 Try plucking a string on a Bass guitar without muting the others, they will ring along, if the played tone ist one of their harmonics (I believe). That's why muting is very important when playing Bass. Same with the Piano if you hold the sustain pedal and play a note, the whole thing sounds in sympathy.
Great show and tell! Loved the sound and look of this instrument. The one manned band music is insanely appealing to me. I would love to hear some more songs on it.
I listened a second time with my headphones, and I really liked the voice of it when you played to show the extra vibration and I loved the accompanying bass notes at the end. I haven’t seen someone play a harp guitar in awhile that’s really cool. Thanks Sammy
That was super nice. Really appreciate those small creation that you've played. Love the acoustic sound and the base note in the back. Really looking for you too play it again. Should do a video on "different style played on the Harp guitar"!!!
We had one of me dad's friends come all the way from America to collect a custom made one of these. They sometimes sacrifice a little bit of the acoustic guitar tone, but when you're playing it right they're amazing.
Didn't expect to see this come up on your channel! I'm from Donegal and I've been following Emerald for a while now. If you do visit I know plenty of people that could show you the best spots (& guitars!). Keep up the good work!
I was gonna say the same thing. I never hear anyone mention Hedges. I actually learned that song from an old Guitar Player or Guitar World that had Steve Vai's Blue Powder LP (a few years before he put it on an album & was using it to showcase a Carvin Pre-amp...which I ended up buying at the time) on one side & Michael Hedges Because It's There on the other.
Yeah the resonance thing was immediately noticeable to me when I got a double neck that has a bass neck and standard 6 string neck. You gotta make sure to prevent the sound leaking badly.
donegal is beautiful i always go down there with my family in the summer. in northern ireland (where i live) there is also castlerock beach and caravan park on a mountain. it’s all rocky with a beach below it. it’s beautiful 👍
That is a really interesting instrument. No sound hole, even! For great harp guitar stuff, check out Michael Hedges. He had an amazing, idiosyncratic style of playing.
Great composition and beautiful playing. Probably one of my favorites of yours. I also appreciate the Sean Daniel and Ian Stich reference with G the people's key. #thepeopleskey #peopleskeyofG
Sympathetic resonance happens on a regular guitar as well, which is why well adjusted guitars sound "more rich" than the other ones. This is why muting is critical: try playing an E on any string, then mute only the string you just played. 2 or 3 other strings should still be vibrating! The more strings on a guitar, the richer the tone gets, but the harder the muting game gets. And when we start adding distortion to all of this, things can get quite messy! This thing takes it to another level though!
The six string part of the guitar harp sounds fantastic. The whole thing sounds fantastic. You playing is quite impressive too. I just never heard a carbon fiber guitar that I liked the sound of but this sounds really amazing.
When you played the harp/guitar, it had a sort of folk-rock/country-rock sound, a little bit like the Eagles early work. Quite an interesting sound, and useful if you don't have any friends who can sit in on bass.
The only thing that bugged me is the G string tuner looks like the only sting to not be straight pull through the nut. Maybe the D tuner too, to a more slight degree. I’m a bit OCD.
I have to say Sammy G, right now I really enjoy your pieces that you write a lot more than in your earliers videos. The first one here was absolutely gorgeous. I would buy that. The one you wrote for the Passarelle: I actively listen to that regularly. I hope you‘ll record some of these somber pieces, because I think you have a knack for it.
Sammy G, in one of your other recent videos I remember you mentioned setting a goal for learning to do some new things through Skillshare...Curious about what other stuff on there has caught your interest? I was inspired by your idea of setting goals to learn a bunch of new stuff...A lot of their watercolour courses look cool...
For a really talented harp guitarist, check out Steampunk Stace. I got to meet him in person and attempt to play his instruments, though I did them no justice. He plays beautifully and really is a phenomenal player.
Hard to say what I enjoyed more: a) The really cool gimmicky guitar b)His amazingly soulful playing or c) The epic steampunk amp his dad built.....so I'm going with d( All of the above, because sometimes it's absolutely necessary to have it all
Bro I played a couple of old acoustic ones from the seventies that they brought to my school. The harp was hard to use practically, but it was super cool.
I'm from the North of Ireland and when i was watching I had to rewind the video because of your pronunciation of Donegal, I only picked up the second time through. I just find your pronunciation of Donegal funny.

The Kontragitarre (2neck harpguitar like this) is typically used in traditional viennese Schrammelmusik since mid 19th century.
Sympathetic resonance happens on a regular guitar as well, which is why well adjusted guitars sound "more rich" than the other ones.

not sure if it's the resonance I'm hearing but the sound is a lot fuller in the low end for a lecky when you were just strumming the chords
