To me this Proverb means to fight for what is true. To fight for your self, your family, your community and for those that cannot protect themselves. There are many ways to fight. Wisdom is needed to choose the battle. Conditioning and Training allows us to never give up while in a fight. (Side note - I'm really happy to see more videos and also taking on more students. This is the fight like in the Proverb in action. All the haters for years now and your still not giving up.)

I work for a steel company and I am a knife designer from the Appalachians. Alot of our work has me cooperating with families in Seki. For the life of me, I am now having a hard time not drawing parallels between traditional Appalachian people and the peoples of Iga and Koka. From the basic knowledge of the herbs, spiritual beliefs, family and clan centrism, archery, the weapons of the day, stealth, hunting, etc ... and considering there are more Appalachian people in Special Forces, SEALS and many other specialized federal, state and military units - per capita - than any other group, the only differences I can find between us and you is style, specific spiritual beliefs and culture (language).

I like that proverb. To me it says that if there is something to be desired, one must enact their will on it to try to change it, while he who accepts everything, is at peace with himself/herself and his surroundings. While fighting is a basic and essential part of survival, it doesn't mean that it is the only way to achieve goals or peace later. Ninja fight only when there is limited or no options to achieve their goals of survival and victory.

3 part answer applicable in many ways.
    1) In general conflicts arise when two parties are in competition for a resource, be it physical or conceptual. The competition without understanding leads to conflict, with misunderstanding the conflict leads to combat; physical, verbal, ideological etc. Fighting is often the fastest and many time the sole way to obtain a monopoly of resource and fulfill a greed.

  • @cric3754
    @cric3754 11 лет назад

    3) In either approach you can accept what you can gain from the insight, getting closer to understanding. Once you understand there is nothing to fear, once you are beyond fear you are beyond conflict. You have won with out fighting.

I think the proverb you shared is telling us to keep our minds set on obtaining peace. If we are accepting of the negative things and people that assail us then they cannot not affect our inner peace. We determine the degree to which negative people and things affect us.

    my answer to parable:
I believe if one a attained a high level of awareness, Fighting is not need. You can talk them out of it. Even better you can steer clear from those situations all together( staying in the shadows) right. When a situation becomes out of hand and the threat will hurt you and yours you have to take different steps to make it safe again, fight

I think there is a yearning to fill oneself of all that is missing. Fighting can result victory for oneself. It can also be what one desires, perhaps either through experience or just instinctive feeling. We fight for what we want, and will go through the most difficult obstacles and challenges for this fight, to the point of force which can lead to suffering. But when we accept everything, there is a calm that replaces the strain; a joy in place of suffering; and a peace instead of a struggle.

Fighting is only a by product of the disruption of peace, but for someone who is a master of their martial art peace can be maintained under almost any circumstances. A fighter who is content within his/herself and does not want something has no need to use their martial art to gain something hence leaving it for it's intended purpose of self-defense.

I believe fighting is only necessary when there is no other option out, especially if others have the desire to physically kill or harm you. Acceptance is the key to ending a fight, when both parties can come together to an agreement. Having a win-win situation for both parties for what they desire, and creating peace afterward. Only if the world we live in can accomplish such a task, we wouldn't have to go through so many wars with other nations. - Anthony Lao

"One must understand everything is of harmony(yin and yang)" i.e. good & evil.To know EVERYTHING is good. For even evil is used for the glory of good. One must remain in the spiritual truth of this and strive through the hardships to do as much good i.e. selfless, productive, and compassionate things for the betterment of others(that's how we make the world a better place by the way) When one has true understanding of this proverb then

We fight for what we believe in, we fight to win. We fight for a better life; one of peace. If we learn to accept our adversities, however, we learn that fighting is not needed. But, if one wishes to physically harm or kill us, and no other option is valid, like escape, then fighting to live and protect is the way to go. God Bless. -Jeiel Burrell

We must fight to protect what we love and that grows in that love. Absolutely, a word I rarely use. Peace is the environment of growth and love. Absolutely fight for peace this must be your desire. If not you only fight for your own desires and that only opens the door to war. Acceptance is critical! Without it there can be no peace. Accept ones self ones surroundings ones friends ones reality and peace is yours to attain.to guard a treasure is work. The true treasure is protecting peace there

    (continued)
If we accept (or are content with) everything, there is no need to fight for these unhealthy desires. The exception to not accepting or rejecting something is when someone is trying to harm (or kill) you because of their evil desires.
In having said all this, if we look at what an individual is fighting for, we can clearly tell what his/her desires are and also determine if the person is a decent human being.

to me it means that the only good reason to fight is to protect our self and others. we train not to entertain others or to boost our own ego but so that if and when the time come we have the strength to protect and not to just use our strength to harm other whom we dislike or to enforce our views.and that when fighting to protect you must be victories even at the cost of your own life.

    Kanja Proverb: "FIGHT"
When you fight, it should be to bring about 'peace', either to yourself or others. Like the calm after a storm. - Sometimes we must fight for what we believe in or for things we greatly 'desire'.
If you have 'acceptance' towards everything, the need to fight is diminished entirely. As we all would have common ground and similar desires. Naturally, there are times to reject this, when intentions are to bring harm/death unto you or others.

It is my humble opinion that this proverb means that one only fights to win that fight and fights are started to get what you want, even if that is only to harm the other person. But if you accept who people are and what they believe in there would be no reason for you to fight with them as you will then accept that person and get along with him. The only time for you not to get along with that person or to accept his beliefs or intentions would be if that person intends or believes that he is going to physically harm you or you loved ones.

2 If one walks into to the completion, conflict or fight with the intent to understand, and place yourself in the mind and condition of your opponent this allows you many options, first you can see where a compromise can be met and acceptably offered. Second if you can understand the opponent and get into his head you know how he will fight, where he is weak where he is strong, you then have won before the fight even begins.

Thank you sharing your knowledge and skill so freely. I believe the meaning of this proverb states that only through acceptance we gain true peace. We tend to fight for so many things in life that we have no control over. And through the frustrations, fear, and anger we only distance ourselves from that of which we seek. Yet through the acceptance of who we are, of what we think we know to be true, and of what more there is to learn, we can find the peace that will require no more fighting. That is, a confidence to know that through peace all things are possible. Through peace, inner peace, one can discover the truest form of peace which is love.

there is no point to fighting if you are gonna lose, because if you loose you will start out with less than you started with, although sometimes victory can be achieved by loosing. This will be done to assure peace afterwards, a fight is never won before peace is ensured.
You will never risk loosing for something that you don't care about, that is a basic human principle, but if you learn to accept and love everything and everybody you will only take a fight to defend others or yourself.

This what I think this Proverb means: When you fight, whether it is physically or spiritually, you do it to win. Which in turn gives peace,to you and those around you. But there are times that you must accept certain situations that cannot be fought, like for example,a death of a family member or a close friend. That is part of life and should be accepted. But desires of murder of enemy's towards you or others, should never be accepted, and thus we are required to protect or defend those in need.

Kanja proverb titled fighting. What it means to me is exactly what you said. Selfish desire can lead to conflict with others who may be like minded. The desire to learn, grow, & be free is something worth fighting for when threatened but doesn't necessarily require conflict. Our mind is our best tool for dealing with conflicts. Something our politicians are lacking right now as our government is shutdown. :p
I forgive those who trespass against me. Be ruthless when given no choice.

When you accept others for who they are you will see there is no need for conflict. The conflict lies when you try to shape others to what you think a person should be. This is what causes divorce, wars, infighting in families. Such as in combat if you can recieve a punch or kick and not tense up, but rather accept it you will minmize the damage it inflicts. When you accept another person, you will see who they really are because they will not need to hide behind the conflic inorder to be accepted

The core of fighting is to gain victory and obtain peace afterwards. Peace is the rewards that come with engaging in a battle. This doesn't have to be physical in nature. It could be a fight one takes with themselves to run faster and farther in their exercise, or fight the urge and quite smoking. The peace that comes afterwards is the surreal feeling inside which at that point, the fighter knows that all the effort, struggle and hard work can be felt down in their core.
People fight for what they desire, but if you accept everything...there is no need to fight. So true. Here I understand this to mean that the urge to fight, or strive for something can be related to a material possession, social status or acceptance, or something which the fighter holds dear and acts as a motivational push. Regardless of what it is, the value behind it usually results in the person not accepting to let go of it, even if it's not in their grasp. So they fight. They fight to gain the riches of their desires, and they fight. They fight hard towards this singular goal, and loose sight of what's really around them. Once they realize their surroundings for what it really is, and accept everything with an open heart and open mind, the urge to fight slowly vanishes, and at the end, the intended goal often comes to them 10 folds stronger.
The only reason to not accept or reject something is when others desire to physically kill or harm you....this is a self defense mechanism which prevents us as a living creature to fight for our survival. Fight for another day, because each day granted to us is a gift those whom have fallen before us can no longer cherish.

Proverbs of a Kanja #9 "To Fight"
We must accept others for who they are instead of trying to change them to what you want. War is the greatest atrocity that mankind can inflict upon itself. The only condition that validates war is that a party actively seeks to kill or inflict harm upon another. Peace must immediately follow fighting otherwise ruin - the complete loss of enlightenment and all good and noble things will result and those who initially fought for good will then become oppressors.

Every man and women has a goal, and when another gets in the way of that goal they are an enemy. To gain victory over the enemy and obtain peace one must destroy the enemy by making his enemy into his friend. Therefore to accept everything, even your enemies goals is to be victorious, and victory will lead to peace. Unless a person desires is to harm, not just a person but also their love one's than one must physically gain victory in order to obtain peace.

What we should be fighting for are, peace and love. This should be our desire. However, if we have unhealthy desires and our greed controls us, we fight for selfish gains. This could be for money, power, certain beliefs, fame, popularity and etc. Often, our unhealthy desires lead to self-destruction and hurt (or in extreme situation, kill) other people.

i shall attempt to break down the proverb now. if one was to accept everything, keep an open mind and be adaptive to situations and ideals, then they soon lode desire, and instead gain knowledge. the root of fighting is to survive, but those who know how to fight know that fighting should be the last option. if our goal to fight is to bring about peace after victory, then the best way to obtain the goal is to not fight in the first place. that is my take on the proverb, or at least in 500 words.

Where is your school? I would really hope to attend it someday as it is very hard to find the real teachers among all the fakes.

Trying to explain what this means in my own words is a little difficult because if I were to explain this to someone i would say almost the exact same thing. I myself am a martial artist and particularly enjoy the combative aspect of it, however I only fight to as the proverb says "achieve victory" and to hopefully retain the peace that is there and to become a better martial artist. But I suppose if I excepted my current skill level I wouldn't need to fight then.

    fight proverb
the only reason to fight is to have the out come be peace not hatred, resent or anger. If you seek to understand why the other wants to fight, and find out what it is they want or desire then the fight can be solved with out fighting or physical harm. A fight can always be avoided and resolved peacefully unless the opposition only wants to harm and or kill you then one must fight to defend ones selves.

Well I learned about the importance of scent from a source other than my teacher at the time. I would ask you how one would find an authentic Ninjutsu teacher? Most don't have them that think they do, and with all the propaganda people have a hard time filtering through the muck.

The solution to the somewhat paradoxical principle of fighting for peace lies in motivation. If you fight for the well being and best interest of others, that's good. Picking fights with others or challenging others to raise your own name or to gain what is theirs is wrong, and it is low. I'm undecided on my thoughts on self defense; no doubt I would assist someone else in danger, but if someone wants to harm me for my money or my food; don't they need it more? I could always give in that case..

when I was young I had cousins from different families selling lemonade in front of my grandfathers store one on one side and one on the other they both would say the dog peed in theirs it seems many martial artists are doing the same as those young kids the dog peed in theirs is what they are saying about others.. I appreciate your humility and your humanity Namaste r

great vid! The quote you showed I think speaks volumes about senseless killings and wars that rage perpetually amongst humans. So much of it is without purpose or with the desire to bring about some change and therefore without end. There can sometimes be a good reason for killing, however, such as in the case of saving oneself or a loved one?
