  • I built a home recording studio in my garage. The project took about 10 working days.
    The acoustic elements on the walls are homemade. The ceiling is treated with Pyramid Acoustic foam (Basotect®) provided by Eurokustik.

      Hi Touko Helanen, Im thinking of making a recording room of my own, in my basement. Its pretty humid down there. Do you think that this could be a problem for the walls? Meaning mold would come on it, and if so how could I fix this problem?
      Thanks

      Max Brenke same problem! 😆

      You could use Calcium chloride based desiccant. I use it in my own studio which is also located in the basement. It works pretty well and keeps the humidity around 50%. You might buy it at a local home improvement center or on amazon. I have some videos and a timelapse of the studio teardown/buildup here on youtube if you're interested :-)

    i love the fact you built it single handedly. keeping some panels as on side walls would great if you also have them on ceiling above the speakers.

    Nice!
    Finally someone that has real knowledge about building a nice little home studio.
    Only videos like this one should pop on the top of the list when looking for how to build a home studio.
    Nice job, you are gifted.
    Maybe the only two things I would be a little worried, and again maybe I'm a little to picky, but it would be to create a cloud on top of your mixing spot, with those panels you've build instead of just the foam. And I would also be a little afraid for the mic, it looks nice where it is, but maybe you will get the reflections from the cymbals of your drum, perhaps panels on wheels that you could roll up there to create some sort of booth.
    But then again, it is just me being picky ;)
    Perhaps it sounds good already.
    None the less, really nice video.
    Congratulations.
    And kids, THIS is what building your own studio should look like and these are the steps you should be willing to do.
    Get educated and put done money aside if you are really serious. Best regards.

    • @BlowerTubes
      @BlowerTubes  8 лет назад +2

      +sp pro Thanks for your nice words! I appreciate! Maybe I'll add the CLOUD over the mixing spot some day. I haven't really thought about that lately, because the spot has worked out just fine the way it is right now. :) And about the mic, I've got a couple movable panels that I use sometimes, though they are a little bit of an overkill as what comes to killing the small reflections around there. I usually just dampen/cover the drums with a cloth if I'm doing some serious vocal recordings.

    • @spproplus
      @spproplus 8 лет назад +2

      Touko Helanen
      Well I am glad it works out.

    I think the question is not "How to build a home recording studio in 10 days?" but How to afford a home recording studio in 10 days?"

    • @BlowerTubes
      @BlowerTubes  7 лет назад +36

      Johnny Valencia Heh, I think it's time to do some sum ups. 😉 The studio project wasn't as expensive as it might look like. I really did everything on budget, and I also did a lot by hand, by myself. I collected some second hand acoustic material from a local construction yard (sports hall), had a couple nice deals with some dealers, and also put lots of time in the thinking process of building a home recording studio. I can't tell you the total cost of the project, but I'd say - without the actual studio gear (that has been upgraded since the video) - the build was around $1500-2000. That including everything from nails, glues and screws to all the acoustic elements and the electric table(!). Go for the second hand and construction yards!!!

    It's really great what you did!
    I have a couple of questions, I am looking forward on building a little home studio in my house, And I really would like to know if it is really necessary to insonorize the room with mineral wool And double walls, floor & ceiling.
    And also if I need to separate the recording room from the operating room (it's a really small room, maybe 2.50x1.70 meters). All mainly focusing on being on budget.
    Thank you very much!
