Jordan is definitely good. However, I have to say the best boyband front man in my opinion is the King of Pop Michael Jackson (The Jackson 5, and The Jacksons).

He's homosexual anyway, which probably caused him to stay back from the girls, and not interact so much, which was a huge part of their success. Lot of the band members stated he was kind of the "parent" of the group, so that was his "purpose."

New Kids were my whole world in highschool. Donnie was the bad boy - Jordan was the heartthrob with his amazing falsetto voice. You need to check out The Right Stuff, I'll Be Loving You Forever, and The Remix. If you want the ULTIMATE boy band experience - check out the NKOTBSB concert at the 02 Theatre in London. New Kids and Backstreet Boys teamed up for a tour - and the concert is FANTASTIC.

I agree! It has SO much energy to it, and the guys are at their peak here. It's that kind of energy that reflects everything a female gets excited about when meeting a guy, and wanting him to want you. The chase. It's just such a nice encapsulated emotion.

80s music is full of surprises. It was a decade where making good music was priority. Arrangements, vocals, chorus, image, variety, being original and try not copy anyone else, having a distinct label. One of the things I like the most from 80s is there were many vocals groups, like trios , vocal quarters & quintets. Males and females. From Exposé , Sweet sensation, After 7 , Covergirls and so many others.
Ahhhhhh the Jordan falsetto! He can still pull it off today. Going to see them with Salt n Pepa, En Vogue and Rick Astley in May.

Maurice Starr is the one who discovered both New Edition and New Kids...Maurice said he wanted a white version of New Edition, and he got that and more with the New Kids....it was great time for music back in the day

The confusion over "who is the heartthrob?" Is it not blatantly obvious that its the lead singer - Jordan?! lol Also the fact that he kept talking about the Wahlburg brother, but then didn't even notice Mark is in the video near the end lol.
I was a teen at the time, basically they all counted as heart throbs. With 5 to choose from, everyone got to pick their favourite. Discussions were had, at length, during lunch at school.
If I remember rightly nkotb were the first band to be manufactured as a boy band from the start.
Except, NKOTB wasn't really manufactured. Most of these guys were friends, or brothers, before the group.
They weren't manufactured and they weren't the first boyband that was meant to be a boyband. Many boybands cam2 before them like New Edition, The Jackson 5, The Chi-Lites, The Commadores, The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Beatles, The Monkeys, The Archies, Frankie Lymon and The Teenagers, The Ink Spots etc

🙂 Wham! was definitely a boy duo. All my sisters were in love with George & Andrew... especially with George. I never paid much attention to NKOTB when they were current. But as I got older, I'd smile when I'd hear their songs. I was shocked at how MASSIVELY successful they were and what their individual net worths are today. 👍 Enjoyed your reaction.
Since you made it to NKOTB and watched so many boybands, I think at some point you need to watch their video "The boys in the band" which will take you through boyband history with a little bit of a 😉 and cameos by members of other boybands. It's a fun one.
When they assembled these groups, they profiled the guys so that girls can find their own favorite - bad boy, baby face, more mature one etc. NKOTB actually did a collaboration with BSB in 2010-12 and released one album together.

Boston girl here. These guys were Gods when I was growing up in the 80’s. We used to run into them in all of the time in JP and Dorchester, just hanging around Convenience store parking lots, during the height of the success. They always kept shit real. They still do, for the most part. They were genuine guys who never forgot where they came from; and honestly, they are still super humble. I am so proud of them, and I am still a huge fan. Thank you so much for reacting to them!
Great song ❤️. Donnie ate breakfast at the Cracker barrel.i worked at when they played in Chicago. He had pouched eggs and hot tea . I think hot tea is good for your vocal cords. It worked cause the concert that night was incredible.lol

Yes exactly Maurice Starr basically took the Jackson 5 formula Bobby brown / Joey McIntyre were the youngest (Michael Jackson) of the the groups.
In Latino music they also had the boy band Menudo in which Ricky Martin was the youngest one. It’s definitely a pattern they used to form the greatest boy bands.

I loved NKOTB! Donny Wahlberg (bad boy), Jordan Knight & Joey McIntire (hearthrobs)..yummy! These guys are my age-ish (52) and still touring and killing it! Also, I would not consider Wham a boy band. They're just a duo. If you want to think early " boy bands" think clear back to the 50's, 60's& 70's! The Temptations, The Spinners, The O' Jay's, etc. Another great boy band and an original 80's is New Edition!
Maurice Star was the producer and manager for New Edition and then he met the guys of NKOTB and here we are today. In 1988 New Kids On The Block played the Apollo. They receiveda standing ovation.

Wham! wasn't a boyband, pretty much just a duo (George Michael/Andrew Ridgely) with back-up band & singers. Or you could say just an extension of George since he wrote & produced most of their content anyway. It depends on your definition of "boyband". If you look at it The Jackson 5 were a "boyband". As were a lot of male only groups of the 50's and 60's. Hell even The Beatles were a boyband lol. If you are looking for a early group that didn't write any of their material and were "produced" I'd say New Edition in the early to late 80's.
Your face when Jordan added the falsetto 🤣 He can go really really high with his voice. And contrasted against Danny with the bass right before that (aka Mr. Muscle Man in that video) - seeing your reaction to that was hilarious. Loved it.
I guess, the heartthrob usually goes to the baby of the band (Nick, Justin...) here that would be Joey.
And maybe a bit Jordan as well.

And last but not least we had Jon who would be a bit of the Kevin's equivalent compared the BSB. As in the quiet, a bit older one. He is also Jordan's older brother.
Good points about how different the video is compared to the ones made a few years later. It does show the difference in time. Interesting enough - they still tour once in a while to this day. Obviously all have other carriers now as well, with Donnie and his acting probably the most well known.

I saw NKOTB in July. They are still amazing and treat their fans so well.. have a cruise every year with 3,000 fans! How cool is that?!
New here! NKOTB we're my world in the early 90's. I was 12 when I saw them in concert. The girls in the audience were all crying LOL!! Including me. Jordan Knight was my favorite. My room was covered with all of their fan memorabilia. You could not see my walls and my father (a single dad) hated it 🤣🤣.
Donnie was in the headlines breaking the law. Jordan was the heart throb. They all had their individual talents.

Donnie Wahlberg was definitely the 'badboy" and rapper of the group. Then his brother Mark Whalberg aka Marky Mark debuted with "Good Vibrations". Years later we first saw Donnie spread his acting chops - successfully when he had the brief but Very memorable showing in "The sixth sense" he was sooooooo Good. But the group was great - they even performed at The Apollo - and that was the time when you had to come correct with the audience or they would chase you off the stage...hahahah
I was around sixteen when I took notice of NKOTB. I started to become attached to Joey, but over time I REALLY see why so many females liked Jordan. Man, is he a stunner! The razor-sharp looks, the dancing, the swag, clothing style, that amazing voice, and on top of that he seems like such a cool guy. I can see why he is the leader of the group. This song represents NKTOB perfectly. Such great energy!

I'd say Donnie was the "bad boy" of the group. Blink at the 5:23 mark & you'll miss Donnie's younger brother Mark "Marky Mark" Wahlberg he's holding the green basketball. I'd say Jordan & Donnie were the leaders of the group. As for heartthrob I'd probably say Jordan (lead singer in this song), Joey is the youngest. To be honest Danny (guy with hat turned sideways) and Jonathan (Jordan's older brother) are just along for the ride. If you want to check out some more of the uptempo stuff try You Got It (The Right Stuff), Hangin' Tough, Cover Girl & Tonight. Their popular ballads are I'll Be Loving You Forever & Please Don't Go Girl. Later on in their run they tried taking on a more street/urban vibe. Check out the song Games. At the height of their popularity they only last about 3 years, give or take.

New Edition was the 1st boy band. They started as young teens and still sing together this day. Check out “If It Isn’t Love” and “Can you stand the Rain”. The same man that found New Edition found New Kids on the Block. I think Mark Wahlburg was one of the original members. I just remember him most from Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch dancing around in his Calvin Klein tighty whities 😂

🤔No WHAM was a duo (there was a third member Dion Estus but that's another story) but one of the first American BOY bands was New Edition there were a lot of groups but BOY bands were more modern and New Edition was the first in my opinion. (Maurice Starr guided New Edition to stardom split with them and then created New Kids On The Block.)They were super popular with many hits throughout the years when they split Bobby Brown was super successful on his own for a while, Ralph Tresvant had a few hits and Bell-Biv-Devoe the remaining three had some big hits as well, they reunited and replaced Brown with Johnny Gill who also had some success with a solo career. Then they all came together again and I think went on tour.

Wondered when you were gonna come across these guys lol. Donnie is the bad boy of this band for sure. Joey was the baby face boy (like nick carter). And Jordan (the main singer on this one) was probably the main heartthrob but us girls always like a bad boy more lol. Hangin tough and the right stuff are probably the main two to listen to. This sound was very typical in the late 80s early 90s. In the UK, producers Stock, Aitken and Waterman had many many artists with this kind of sound.

Mark Wahlberg was an original member of the group with Donnie, but Mark got into a lot of trouble as a teenager and he was kicked out.

This was a later one for NKOTB actually. I was a blockhead as a teen and had all of these albums and paraphernalia. I saw them in concert during the Hangin Tough tour. Donnie was the bad boy and my favorite. Joey and Jordan were probably what you call the heart throbs.

No matter where I am if I hear this song, I will happily sing along with it. Blockhead forever, Danny was/is my fave, love his smile. Donnie was the "bad boy", Jordan & Joey were the heart throbs (Joey was very young), Jon was the quiet one & Danny was smiley fitness guy.

Yeah, that is Mark Wahlberg's (Marky Mark) brother Donnie Wahlberg in the Public Enemy t-shirt. And that's Mark holding the green basketball at 5:23. New Kids On The Block were the biggest selling group at the time. Their songs were written and produced by Maurice Starr, who also wrote and produced New Edition's tunes when they first came out. That is why NKOTB's sound and performance was so polished from the get go. Classic pop!
