software version in the scan tool shown here is 2.8.0, it doesn't appear to be able to update it externally at the movement Which is a drawback. New for 2024 Ancel come out with a Ancel AD310BT ( Bluetooth Edition where you get the classic hand held ad310 device but it is now bluetooth enabled so you can use more features on a app on your phone in conjunction with it)

I purchased this simple and OBDII/EOBD +CAN code reader off Amazon for a family member so they could have something to read and clear the codes in case of a check engine light. I also have a ANCEL AD410 code reader which is a little more advanced than the AD310. If you are in the market for a good basic scan tool that will not break the bank and are not going to be doing very advanced things this economical scan tool does a lot of common stuff for the price I paid of 20.99 USD Plus tax at the time of purchase
I highly recommend AD310 or AD410 OBD2 scan tools for the at home user or shady tree mechanic
Major features are
- reading and clearing codes
- viewing live data
- I/M Readiness ( will it pass emissions test)
- Evap Test
- graphing data points like fuel trim, voltage O2 sensors, etc
- viewing other data points of the car.

Yes it is for the price, $20. They have better ones now. I bought this one for my son for the Camry. So he could monitor His fuel injector codes which eventually went away by itself. After 2 bottles of high milage STP fuel injector cleaner and 2 bottles of Berrymens B12 chemtool. It’s good that it did because to replace the injectors on it is very $$ because it’s the GDI injectors which are about $330-400 each just for the parts and all 4 have to be replaced at same time. And the entire intake has to come off to get to it.
The injectors are both port and Direct injectors.
My scan tool is better the Ancel AD410. They also have. AD310BT
Which is basically this + it is blue tooth enabled so you can use it in conjunction with a mobile app on phone. Ancel makes some good scan tools for the DIYer
The AD310 isn’t updatable that I can see but the Ad410 is and all updates are free.
