- Alberta Premier Danielle Smith calls on the federal government to close its borders to end the flow of migrants and drugs, particularly fentanyl, as requested by the Trump administration. U.S. President Donald Trump said last week that 25 per cent tariffs on Canadian goods could take effect as soon as February 1.
Premier Smith also announces long-term plans to grow the province’s Heritage Savings Trust Fund to $250 billion by 2050. The fund was established in 1976 to collect non-renewable resource revenues.
The premier is joined at the news conference in Calgary by provincial Finance Minister Nate Horner and MLA Myles McDougall (Calgary-Fish Creek).
