I have three favorite Ric Flair moments. One, Comiskey Park, 1985, Ric Flair vs. Magnum TA in the main event. Two, the very next day was the day the Horsemen broke Dusty's leg in the Omni. Three, Chi-Town Rumble, 1989, match one of the Flair/Steamboat trilogy. It was a privilege to see that match in person.
First time I saw Flair wrestle was the 92 Royal Rumble. I was a huge Hogan fan and was rooting for him. Flair was just so entertaining and with Bobby Heenans commentary, I became a fan that night. The next best moment for me was the Mean Gene interview on Nitro. The " I ain't leaving" interview 😂. The best. Next was that match he had with Triple H on Raw for the world championship and the celebration after the cameras were off. He may have done some questionable things outside the ring but he was damn entertaining.
I never got to see Flair wrestle in JCP/NWA. So, when he jumped ship to WWE in "91, I immediately got excited because the WWE at the time was booking him at house shows where he'd come out in the middle of the card and brag about being the "Real world champion." I already had my ticket, so I figured this would be a chance to at least get to see him live, even if he wasn't wrestling. Well, the show happened to fall on the Thursday after he attacked Roddy Piper on Superstars. He came to the ring, and about a minute into his rant, bagpipes started playing on the house speakers. The pop was insane, and as soon as Piper stepped out into the entrance aisle, the crowd went nuts. He and Flair had a pull-apart that went around the ringside area and into one of the crowd exits. I was already a fan of his, but this just solidified my love for his character. Thanks, Naitch. I will always look back on that night fondly.
Naitch is ABSOULTELY more relevant now pop culture wise in the last 10 years than he has ever been. In the 80's, Vince gave the WWF icons an epic marketing and production machine to get the most out of their IT factor/charisma. JCP didn't have a MACHINE in place to get the most out of their stars IT factor/charisma. A machine tailor made to get the most out of an edgy adult oriented product. IF Flair had a machine in his prime years to get the most out of his IT factor/charisma, he would have been JUST AS BIG as Hogan. BUT in a different way. Flair and the Horsemen, Dusty, Road Warriors, Sting, Luger, Nikita, RnR Express, etc. in that 1985-1988 timeframe ALL were very marketable commodities. They just didn't have the machine to take advantage of it. Before Vince changed the game in the mid 80's, Andre, Dusty, and Flair were the three biggest stars in the US. Because they were huge stars in the most places. ONCE Vince changed the game, it gave his stars A HUGE ADVANTAGE in several ways. When Flair went to the WWF in 91, the machine WASN'T BUILT to his brand of IT factor/charisma. He wasn't allowed to be as edgy with the promos. He wasn't allowed to have those epic marathon matches. And the company was built around Hogan. So even though Flair won two WWF world titles and the Royal Rumble, the promotional machine wasn't built to his strengths. Plus the company as a whole didn't have the grip on mainstream American that it had during the peak of the Hulkamania run in the 80's.
There was nothing like old school NWA. St. Louis was the NWA headquarters. Sam Muchnik was THE best promoter. Seriously loved. Produced everybody. Name them. If they were anybody they fought in St. Louis. Flair to this day owns St. Louis. Harley would be 2nd. Great video. 👍🏻
Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat would do broadways night after night just for fun. I have been watching wrestling since 1976 and to this day no two wrestlers could out perform a Steamboat Flair match. Late 70s early 80s these two sold out every where they wrestle. In Greensboro NC one night I watch these two do a 1 hr Broadway. The bell rang and these two keep wrestling for at least another 20 minutes.
Im disappointed i cant afford my siriusxm subscription smh 😪 i had to cancel. Busted Open radio is the main reason i subscribed. The HipHop channels are Dope too. Ill be back soon tho

Flair is The Man. What a dark day it will be for the wrestling world when we loose such a unique legend.😭😭😭
The stories Flair told are the reason I love this show so much! Awesome stuff!
