Sad news from the Depeche Mode front. Founding member, Andy “Fletch” Fletcher passed away suddenly a couple days ago. He was only 60. I’m so fortunate to have been a fan since I was 10. I’m 51 now and play them nearly daily. I thankful to have been able to see them live twice. It’s a very very sad time for us “devotees”. (That’s what Depeche Mode mega fans are called) Please react to more. Their music must live on. 🙏🏽
You actually did get to see the diversity in their music with these videos. 90s DM will always be my favourite, where they went in a darker, moodier direction. I love singing One Caress in the car. It's so dramatic, and very goth. Thanks for the reaction as usual!
I hope dear friend you realize that Depeche Mode has influenced the minds of so many people all over the world because of the lyrics. The music and its arrangement and delivery drew us in. I have listened to alot of music and i can tell you DM has consistently produced such music for the soul. Even after this video, you have barely scratched the surface.
The renowned Antoine Corbin is basically DM's art director for decades. He does most of their art, tour stage design, videos, the works. Which reminds me. Watch "101" by the famed documentary filmmaker D.A. Pennebaker. "In 1988, Pennebaker, Hegedus and David Dawkins followed Depeche Mode as they toured the U.S. in support of Music for the Masses, the band's commercial breakthrough in America. The resulting film, 101, was released the following year, and prominently features a group of young fans travelling across America as winners of a "be-in-a-Depeche-Mode-movie-contest," which culminates at Depeche Mode's landmark concert at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. Because of this, the film is widely considered to be the impetus for the "reality" craze that swept MTV in the following years, including The Real World and Road Rules. In various interviews, DVD commentaries and on their own website, both Pennebaker and Hegedus have cited 101 as "their favorite" and "the one that was the most fun to make" out of all their films to date."
"I Feel You" is from what in my mind is the single greatest Pop album ever released "Songs of Faith and Devotion" every song on that album is pure gold, but if you listen to the album in song order it tells a complete story.
When the band recorded Songs of Faith and Devotion (SOFAD) Alan was asked to play drums on the tracks and then performed live for the Devotional and Exotic tours in support of the album. It was pure magic seeing Alan on drums. As for the production, that can be attributed to the talents of Alan Wilder and Flood (Mark Ellis) who did a masterful job on the album and well as their work on Violator which was their first collaboration with Ellis. Love to see them work with him again. One Caress also came from SOFAD and Martin recorded the song live with a string section that also perfomed on tour along with Alan on keyboards. I remember being a young teen when Master and Servant was released as a single. Quite a racy track for the early 80s but that's why I loved it back then and still do 37 years later. DM will always be my favorite, especially the era with Wilder. I love the dark edginess he brought to the table and how he helped to shape their signature sound.
Exactly, Alan always did what was needed for DM's music. He was a member but especially perfect producer. It was needed for the vibe of the album. And he did it.
The disappointing thing about the band with Alan, is that Alan was NEVER considered a band member. He was a hired musician. He started out that way and he left that way. The guys never made him a true band member. Now, Alan did a whole lot of work for the band, producing music, mixing songs, saving the band from destruction during SOFAD, you name it, Alan did it as a HIRED MUSICIAN. He never got paid adequately for all of the work he did. He just got a, “Thank you, Alan,” during the Hall of Fame induction ceremony. I’m surprised Alan stayed as long as he did because if it was me, I would have left a long time ago. But, if he did, there would have not been Violater and Songs of Faith. Alan’s solo work is AMAZING. If you like the production of most DM music, then you will love Recoil. It’s all Alan. Every Recoil song is a masterpiece and a feast for the ears. There is a new piece of sound every time you listen to the song. I highly recommend checking out Faith Healer, Want, Stalker, any song from the Unsound Methods cd. Alan’s shows are truly amazing, too. He even does an amazing mix of Never Let Me Down.
In 1983 my sister was 10 and I was 6. Our babysitter was my mothers friends teenage daughter who was into 80's goth. One day while watching us she came in and said you guys should hear something. She put on the Construction Time album. Our lives have never been the same since. DM until I die baby!
Years of growing up living abroad, I come back to suburban Canada in the mid 80s to start high school--bored out of my mind! Not enough stimulation after growing up travelling. One day in grade 9 or 10, someone played Depeche Mode for me and that was it. I found my groove and dove straight into the Brit New Wave/New Romantic/Goth Post Punk scenes. Ironic that finding Depeche Mode very likely saved my life because our nickname for them was "Depressed Mode." Love you Fletch!
These guys were always on the radar of people like me. At 52 I've been around awhile. First song ever heard, of course, was People Are People. Weird to say but thankful for MTV back in the day...
I love that you watch multiple videos in one reaction video. It is awesome showing others the evolution and diversity of artists. FYI Depeche Mode is one of my all time favorite bands! Thank you for your content!
But the dance moves never change! Seen both videos a million times, but never back-to-back... just noticed that Dave dance/claps the same in 1993's I Feel You as in 1984's Master and Servant.
I Feel You is that one song and music video where Dave reminds me sooo much of Michael Hutchence, they had some of the same dance moves and just style in general. Dave growing long hair certainly helped to remind me of Michael as well. And i know INXS made friends across the globe, and U2 plus Depeche Mode were defintly 2 bands where they sowed some friendships. 4:25 Lysette Anthony, an actress and a model. She had an early start by becoming The Face Of The Eighties already as (hold onto your trousers!) 16 years old. Her model career skyrocketed after this, and she made her movie role debut as (keep holding thoose trousers!) 20 years young. She has had one amazing and long career that started super early. Absolutely gorgeous lady wich certainly knew both to pose for the cameras and to act good on screen. If you have watched "Look Whos Talking Now" with Kirstie Alley,John Travolta and one amazing cast,Lysette has a role in that one as well. (She is Samantha) Is also seen in the hysterical comedy Dracula - Dead And Loving It with Leslie Nielsen. in Dr. Jekyll and Ms Hyde, in Robinson Crusoe from 1997 as Mrs. Crusoe. Amongst many other hollywood productions as well. What can i say,im a movie nerd too and i love me some Lysette Anthony. (Shes born in Fulham,London,England)
I have been waiting for this! I love the cross section you picked -- you can def see how they evolved in their looks and sound but still were uniquely them... they are their own entity. Your observations are dead on, and hilarious, as usual. I am waiting for you to discover Behind the Wheel and the two that most DM fans will say are in their top songs... Stripped and Shake the Disease.... some of the best is still to come!! PS hope you find your hat!! I can't remember if you've reacted to Policy of Truth, but after seeing that video in high school I searched forever for a hat similar to the one Martin wore 🤣
Love your reaction to these marvellous songs and am so happy that you are back🙏 The fact that you not only pay attention to the video, but also the music and lyrics at the same time reciting important parts of the songs that you are reacting to gives your reaction vids extra spark and value great job 👏💪😎
3 top 10 hits (in the UK) and one b-side. One Caress is the b side to I Feel You. From the sampling electronics of Everything Counts in 1983 and Master & Servant in 1984 to I Feel You and One Caress in 1993. The latter two are from the album Songs Of Faith And Devotion which is their only album to date that hit number 1 in the UK and the US together. They’re always pushing boundaries. Great selection of videos. You should try Only When I Lose Myself, Wrong, Where’s The Revolution and Suffer Well. Pretty sure you haven’t done all of those yet.
Omg thank you soooooo much for this grouping of videos...loved your observations as usual loved your reactions ...keep going ...with DM ...you'll find there's no such thing as a bad DM song...thanks to Marrtys writing and Alan's production and Dave' interpretation...❤️👏🏻😍✌🏻
Yay. So glad you reacted to I Feel You. It’s my favorite from them. Just an amazing track. A completely different track for them. There music is wonderful but that track just hits different
I love seeing you dive deeper in DM's catalog. Now you need to check out the video for "Wrong". It is all kinds of crazy! Also, I wanted to recommend checking out Arcadia. They were a Duran Duran spinoff group Simon & Nick did in 1985. You think Duran videos are confusing... wait til you see Arcadia's videos!
Hello my friend .. Again nice greetings from Germany.Ich enthusiastically watch your reaction videos to Depeche Mode. The music you are almost 40 years old causes such reactions in youHope to see more of you in the future ... Until then .... thumbs up 🙂🙂
Another awesome reaction PMD i really enjoy listening to your reaction video's I would really like to see how you react to the song "Stripped" live from DM's Devotional tour in 1993 or "Never Let Me Down Again live from there 1988 tour. It is an amazing sight to see
Love your DM reactions! Growing up being a DM fan was hard, everyone made fun of them! I learned how to be non-judgmental because of it I can talk or be friends to almost anyone because DM gave me a safe place in my heart! I am glad you love them!I hope they give you that place inside too!
GREAT video! Thank you for all the wonderful videos you make and I hope that you have a great Christmas this year! (or great other holiday, if you have one 🙂👍)
You're more than ready to react to one of DM's biggest influences : Kraftwerk. The Model, Radioactivity, Autobahn, Trans Europe Express, The telephone call, Pocket Calculator (if you're in an adventurous mood you can check the French version "Mini Calculateur"), The Robots...
If you ever have owned their Video cassettes with their compilation of that particular Album it is not collated and pieced together like other pop stars of that generation although my favourite Song/Video of their`s is See you from 1982 and watch it everyday just to recollect my teenage years.
Enjoying this even more re-watching today! Sorry to be greedy but I also had a thought for your next set of DM reactions.. all live performances. Everything Counts from 101, Condemnation and In Your room from Devotional, and Home live in Paris. Or the whole Devotional video in general! I just love watching your appreciation and understanding of this band. ❤
Bryson, my friend, this was incredibly spectacular - seriously! - four of my favourite Depeche Mode songs alongside their music videos, and *you* reviewing these classics, completely entranced. Sorry I have not been around for a lengthy period, but I have had a rough go at things lately - things finally settled tonight, hoping to gain stabilization of sorts now. At any rate, so glad I caught this quadruple special of Depeche Mode videos! Night Bryson! 🙂
Thank you. I enjoy how you notice so many different aspects of the video. Maybe I’m different than most, but I don’t enjoy the videos as much as the live performance videos. I’d love to see your reaction to those, especially the ‘wave’ segment near the end of Never Let Me Down Again, if you haven’t already.
As a reaction idea that crosses more than one band - why not try a reaction to the various bands that Vince Clark has been involved in? Early Depeche Mode (New Life?), The Assembly (Never Never), Yazoo (Situation) and Erasure (Nerves of Steel). The King of the synth.
Hello again, have you ever watched Madonna's -- MDNA TOUR OPENING SEQUENCE LIVE? -- It is another one of those were I am certain you will react saying "WOW" again, as with the Confessions Tour.
Speaking of Korea. Been there in the 80's. As a an American military member I DJ'd in two clubs. Beautiful people. I played this DM song a lot! And others.
Depeche Mode is one of those bands I always forget when I want to listen to some music. Don't get me wrong, I love their music, I have multiple albums, but somehow they're always an afterthought. This did however remind me of my favourite song by them, sung by Martin... Home. Guess I'm going to watch that next. Keep enjoying your journey of musical discovery.
Depeche Mode caused an earthquake in the music industry with song of faith and devotions. They changed a lot their style and production, they went more darker and got a deep rock style very unique, I feel you is for sure one of their best songs. I would recommend you to listen in your room which also belongs to this album, definitely my fav album from Depeche Mode. It’s almost perfect, Alan wilder is a genius.
First track brings back great memories of dance clubs in the eighties(Trocadero Transfer in SF, South of Market) which provided the dance floor with a great dance beat and some much needed consciousness raising lyrical content. Second track, I can take or leave as I am not always a fan of the hard driving rock sound from them, third like the first is a dance jam from 80's dance clubs which if we were lucky we would see leathers Master Daddies with their Servant Boys in acting the song in real time. The video imagery suggests more universal social implications in a way! Funny how you have sandwiched Early & later videos. I feel the later videos(say 90's) were a bit more overcast or depressed in their content. I have fallen behind a little in your reactions but I am slowly catching up. I appreciate your Butch-Nerd-Fem-der bending persona and absolutely love your open & smart sensibilities. ☮🕉☯⚛
confronting everything counts with i feel you is some of the biggest contrast in the DM catalog - the introverted/sensitive teenager ruminating about the world vs. the adult trying to ride out his slghtly "dramatic" sexuality are somehow the opposite ends ot the DM spectrum :D
A lot of DM videos were/are cringe worthy prior to handing things off to Anton. I’m glad they got rid of their early cheese around 1987ish. Great reactions. Meow get you some Skinny Puppy and Nitzer Ebb. ;)
You ought to play Depeche mode, walking in my shoes and also, home. Been a fan of there's since 1982, same age roughly as the group, brought me so much over the years and kept me sane
Everything Counts is my favourite DM song. Iconic as anything danceable beats, and super poignant lyrics that stay all too relevant. Lyrically it does resonate with more than anything else they’ve done, and the rest of Construction Time Again, the likes of More than a Party (which could be read as a subtle critique of the British Conservative Party), or Two Minute Warning (the potential threat of nuclear war). Thematically they’ve never been better.
I really think it's time you did a DM album Bryson. It just is. To me, there are THREE real choices here. Black Celebration (1986) is great, a represents some of the darkest music. Music for the Masses (1987) is another masterpiece. You'll hear a couple of songs you've reacted to on there. WHile not exactly an album, DM released 101 which was a recording of the 1988 Music for the Masses concert at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena (was originally released as 2 cassettes, which of course I had). 101 is really all of the best from Black Celebration and Masses, with some of the older gems thrown in. Is more like 20 songs, rather than the usual 10-12 songs of an album. But just seems like it's time, and you just can't go wrong with any of these. To me, the real apex of DM's music.
I’m not sure you’ve done DM’s “But Not Tonight” as it’s a hidden 💎. Please read the back story of it first. 🙏🏼 Please also go deeper into DM and the early years with Vince Clark who was there before Martin and how Vince left after a few DM albums to create Yazoo, a few albums there and then created Erasure. Please do these video song listening reviews: Yazoo ~ Only You Erasure ~ Hideaway

They haven’t influence my mind. I just simply like the music. They sing more of their experiences than they do of influencing people.

Yes, you're right
ABSOLUTELY
Yes. This was PEAK Depeche Mode
Not sure I’d call it pop - in many ways, the antithesis of the very poppy Violator - but brilliant nonetheless.

alan was asked?, no no ....it was alan's idea to play drums live. alan was asked,... he wanna play drums and move on...evolving
Wondered how many time someone could get ALAN in any given comment...🙄😂
Exactly, Alan always did what was needed for DM's music. He was a member but especially perfect producer. It was needed for the vibe of the album. And he did it.

Lol! Me too!
Great reactions all around !You DEFINITELY need to eventually check out the music video, "Wrong" by Depeche Mode. Really cool video.
Thank you for watching!
"Wrong" is one of the most powerful songs/videos they have....and that is saying alot since 90% of their music is powerful AF.
Wrong 🖤👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽🔥
Years of growing up living abroad, I come back to suburban Canada in the mid 80s to start high school--bored out of my mind! Not enough stimulation after growing up travelling. Love you Fletch!
For a long time ‘Everything Counts ‘ used to be the final final song at their concerts. The audience would sing the chorus, and it was magical.
These guys were always on the radar of people like me. At 52 I've been around awhile. First song ever heard, of course, was People Are People. Weird to say but thankful for MTV back in the day...
So glad you discovered them. Love them since early 2000s. Freelove, I feel loved, Precious.. Synth, darkness, mistyness. They stand out.
Their music is untouchable.
They created their own genre everything!!!

"Songs of Faith and Devotion" (NOT Love and Devotion)
These videos could’t have been more versatile😀. One Caress is such a beautiful song.

At any rate, so glad I caught this quadruple special of Depeche Mode videos! Night Bryson! 🙂
I’m glad to have you back! 😊❤️
Thank you so much for watching! 😊
As a reaction idea that crosses more than one band - why not try a reaction to the various bands that Vince Clark has been involved in? Early Depeche Mode (New Life?), The Assembly (Never Never), Yazoo (Situation) and Erasure (Nerves of Steel). The King of the synth.
The video for "I Feel You" was directed by Anton Corbijn. You should check out some more of his music video work.
Hello again, have you ever watched Madonna's -- MDNA TOUR OPENING SEQUENCE LIVE? -- It is another one of those were I am certain you will react saying "WOW" again, as with the Confessions Tour.
At last! Great reactions as always!!
Thank you!
I think they are the best thing to come out of Essex
Hugs from me in Sweden, very enjoyable reaction 🤗
Thank you! ❤
David Gahan was the first John Wick
Speaking of Korea. Been there in the 80's. As a an American military member I DJ'd in two clubs. Beautiful people. I played this DM song a lot! And others.
Depeche Mode is one of those bands I always forget when I want to listen to some music.
Don't get me wrong, I love their music, I have multiple albums, but somehow they're always an afterthought.
This did however remind me of my favourite song by them, sung by Martin... Home. Guess I'm going to watch that next.
Keep enjoying your journey of musical discovery.
Fan fact: "One Caress" was released as a B-side of "I Feel You" single
Did you ever find that wide brimmed hat? Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
I'm having trouble finding one that fits my large head, but I won't quit until I do! 😂
I thought the same thing about the hat! I got like months after lol
Great music with great messages!!
i love your reactions ❤ have a good day!
Thank you so much!!
They filmed the video for One Caress in the forest preserve near where I lived. Love DM forever
A recommendation for you to watch from DM are “I Feel Loved” and “Wrong.” They are both in color but very strong concepts. Great job on the reviews!
Thank you, and I’ve reacted to both of those already 😊
Master and Servant. Still played at every big fetish night to this day.
The way you backed up as the the woman in Barrel of a Gun walked towards the camera :D
one caress is a beautiful gothic song
I am IN LOVE with your apt description of my persona!!! 😂❤😊
@@PancakeMarshmallowDude This description was inspired by your presence & tailor made for you my dear. 🖤💜💙💚💛❤
confronting everything counts with i feel you is some of the biggest contrast in the DM catalog - the introverted/sensitive teenager ruminating about the world vs. the adult trying to ride out his slghtly "dramatic" sexuality are somehow the opposite ends ot the DM spectrum :D
This mix is different than the one I’m used to. No echoed vocals. Maybe just old cassettes and vinyl.
Please react to Strangelove and Fly on the Windscreen. Their musical evolution is amazing. D🌹M is just so awsome.
I worked for them for a few years.
Depeche Mode have a special place in my heart. Top reaction PMD.
Thank you!

"I can do without the bugs!" 🤣🤣🤣 (yeah, me too)
I am a life long DM super fan, so loving this video for that reason, but this host is also so damn cute!
Thank you so much! 😊
Love DM❤
Everything Counts is my favourite DM song.
Iconic as anything danceable beats, and super poignant lyrics that stay all too relevant.
Lyrically it does resonate with more than anything else they’ve done, and the rest of Construction Time Again, the likes of More than a Party (which could be read as a subtle critique of the British Conservative Party), or Two Minute Warning (the potential threat of nuclear war). Thematically they’ve never been better.
Awesome!
If you really enjoy depeche mode try Flexible and Set Me Free. Oh and the Slavery Whip mix of Master And Servant.
Please also go deeper into DM and the early years with Vince Clark who was there before Martin and how Vince left after a few DM albums to create Yazoo, a few albums there and then created Erasure. Please do these video song listening reviews:
Yazoo ~ Only You
Erasure ~ Hideaway
May I suggest you watch 101, one hundred and one concerts in the US. Through the eyes of fans who travelled with them after winning a competition
they are the best.
I'll comment before I watch: 😳😳😳😭😭😭😁😁😁❤❤❤
Next time do Halo! Halo and Halo and Halo. Song on repeat
My adolescence was at that time, 80 and 90 the best
Watching this made me realize how I miss Alan Wilder in the group....
Recoil is fine, but I miss his musical influence in Mode.
Policy of Truth is a great video.
you should Check "FREE LOVE" MV
Blasphemous Rumors is Brilliant as well.
Hey, hope you do the new Duran Duran video, Anniversary.
I get it with the bugs lol. Last night before bed a tiny fruit fly was stalking me, swear it ruined my sleep. Still wonder where it went….
