Wouldn't this solve the issue as it will have 4x 8 pin connectors directly attached to the card getting rid of that silly connector completely?

The right-angle ATX 20/24pin connectors sometimes made me feel uneasy as well, but at least with those the connector is not surrounded by a shroud so you can support it with your fingers and squeeze the plug and connector together. And if you break anything at least it's visible. I wonder why they don't have large connectors use plugs that are split into smaller blocks in order to avoid the pressure from having to mate all the pins at once. It was something I always appreciated about the AT power connector being split into two.

Very true, but in honesty, back in the day I had an Abit IC7Max board with a 90 degree ATXPWR connector and it gave no problems and run it for many years, it also made cabling tidier but I was Just as concerned when I 1st plugged it in and took extra care but you could just about grasp both the plug and the connector and squeeze them together if you didnt cut your nails too short :/ but as the pins were also exposed because of its orientation I covered the exposed pins on the topside of the board with insulation tape as they looked like they were an invitation or something bad to happen.

The problem is the big lever by having the small pins at the bottom and the bigger ones at the top. It's a smart idea of Asus to put the connector upside down (kinda), to combine the generally stronger support of the bigger pins with a shorter lever arm.
Maybe putting a drop of some strong, sticky adhesive under the connector will give a bit more support so it doesn't start moving?

I am not surprised at all that this happens. I got today my Gainward 4070 Super and i couldn't believe how hard you have to push the connector to get it fully seated. I had to remove the GPU from my computer and keep it sideways on the edge of the table, and then push the cable in. And you have to do this weird jerkin motion side to side because it wont go when pushing directly.
I watched multiple videos where people just gently pushed the connector to the place and it made click sound, but this was something else.

That connector isn't designed to handle that mechanical stress. Since you're usually in an awkward position when plugging it in, all the counter force comes from those soldered-on pins. Maybe a kind of crimping tool to hold onto the plastic and the connector could solve this installation problem.

I hope my 4080 Super will not burn in the future. I inserted the connector before putting it in on my motherboard outside the case so i have a perfect view if the connector is fully seated and if i do no bend anything. I think it's a bit of both, user error but also manufacturers error. The connectors on the Asus cards need a lot of power to insert. Way more i felt comfterble with. I had a 4070 TI S from then and got the 4080 S at msrp so changed it. Both needed a lot of force. And initially i really thought it was fully seated. I even heard it click.
But when looking at it i saw it was not fully in, so applied more force and finnaly it was in all the way. I can imagine this is hard for many people to feel/see oudside the case, and even more so inside the case.
So that's why it is a manufacturers problem. However i do believe at least half or more of the burned or bent connectors could have been avoided. But i believe the connector should be different and better so this does no happen so fast. There is a small red led on top of my GPU and when it's not inserted all the way it will light up. So i check it every day to see if something might go wrong.
Hope they do change it to a spec that is more user friendly.

On my 4070S, the male Nvidia adapter was oversized and wouldn't fit. I applied a large amount of force and it simply would not go in. I could easily have broken the connector this way as well.
The resolution was buying a 12vhpwr cable from Corsair, which fit perfectly.
So, Nvidia is shipping defective cables is my main takeaway, potentially leading to "user error" and connector failures.

the problem is with those 12 pins 12vhpwr sockets/plugs nvidia is using is a regular quality ones. typical copper you can find pretty much in any other PC motherboards pins. while in nvidia RTX 4090, those mere 12 pins must serve 4 rails that have theoritical power throughput up to 600 watts. those 12 pins 12vhpwr deals with way too many watts going through it. nvidia should at least use higher quality conductor materials for the socket pins and the 12vhpwr plug, such as those OXYGEN-FREE copper conductors. which more stable temp wise in high wattage. at least for the top tier cards that supposed to operate over 400 watts. or just use silver pins for the socket and the plug. expensive product should come in expensive materials too.

In germany we say "Eins nach dem Anderen" which often gets shortened by various accents, for me it's "Eens after den And'ren" (low standard german, which basically is a mutation of dutch, english and german).
About those connectors: every video where you repair a 12VHPWR connector is a confirmation for me: the connector itself is not ripe for end customers and we are (again) beeing used as alpha-/beta- testers for a product, that could've used more time to ripen. I also would've preffered a connector that is closer to an 8-pin ATX EPS connector...

Turn around and confront the enemy, otherwise they will keep coming back. Choose your battles wisely! That connector needs more than the solder joints to secure it to the board. This is a design flaw.

I think people need to start sueing Nivdia for the connectior and have them issue a mass recall of it and have them replaced with new ones with 8pin connectors.

I'm glad the newest games I play are 5-10 years old. I just fix my old stuff with other peoples old stuff that they're upgrading (to the stuff I see on this channel) for next to free. A Radeon RX 590, x299 motherboard, and an i9 9960x is the Ultimate machine for my purposes, and my parts just keep getting cheaper.

If you own or want to get a 4090. Do not use the cable that comes with it.
Get a 12vpwr cable from your PSU manufacturer. It clicks into place and goes all the way in.
The cable that gets supplied is horrendous, its a bulky spaghetti mess and it doesn't click or seat right.

The video cards need a connector that has strong mounting ears that use strong fasteners to secure the connector physically to the board.

I'm assuming when Alex mentions a customer with multiple cards that customer is Cablemod. They do seem to sell their refurbished 40 series cards in batches sorted by brand but could be wrong the customer here is them. I still wish we'd get some form of statement, be it official from CableMod or a unofficial opinion as what made CableMod's connector so different from all the rest that caused it to be such a high % of the melted connector. Of course part of that is based on they likely had the highest sales for any of the angled adapters but you rarely, if ever see reports of the others. Not sure I've ever seen a report of the Corsair adaper melting or the Bykski (branded as FormulaMod) having issues. Not saying it's Cablemod's fault as it's clearly a connector design problem but it's obvious that the design CableMod did interacted with that bad design more negatively that the others.

TBH to me it's sound strange all these problems. I have a RTX4090FE with HK V waterblock powerd by a SeaSonic Vertex and I haven't any issue to plug in the power cord and check if it was fully inserted. I didn't even need to put too much pressure to get the connector fully seated. I know the 12VHPWR isn't good but to do this type of damages you have to be an animal 🤷‍♂
