I Went Back to Kyiv, Ukraine. 🇺🇦

  • Although I was honestly a bit nervous coming back to Ukraine right now, I was homesick, and didn't want Putin's invasion to keep me away from the life I had prior to the war. The only problem is, even though I own an apartment in both Kyiv and Kharkiv, I don't technically have a home to go back to. Not a safe or available one at least.

I’m sorry bro but your 1st day there was overstaying your welcome.
As a property owner myself, I would NEVER put myself in a situation where I’m asking a tenant if I could stay any length of time during their contract/lease period.
I’m most cases, if they aren’t a property owner themselves, most would feel obligated to tell you yes. Regardless how they feel about it. I can only imagine just how awkward and uncomfortable they feel as you are just walking around making coffee, using restroom, taking showers..
Bro you really should already know this.
I love your channel and content but this just didn’t sit right.
I’m just thinking how I would’ve reacted if my daughter, wife, or other female family/friend was put into this situation with their landlord.
Please know this is not hate.. just constrictive criticism from a follower, sub, and fan of you and your content!

In America property owners have no rights. To remove a tenant, needs to give a half a year notice. Tenant can stop paying. Then the owner files to the court. Can wait for acourt day haf a year at least. Tenant lives for free. Then the court orders to keave the property not immediately, few more months living for free

I don't understand why everyone is criticizing Johnny so much. These are special circumstances involving international travel and a request by a renter to extend her lease unexpectedly. If agreed, it is reasonable for Johnny to stay as a roommate for a short period of time to set his affairs in order...
How long has she extended her lease for?

You are getting paid 1600 USD for renting out your place. Just find another appartment in Kiev for 50% of that price and stay there whilst this girl is paying for this. it`s actually wild that she is paying that much, when you can find a similar appartment for 50-60% of the price. So get out and don`t overstay your welcome, i know it`s your own appartment but you agreed to let her rent it for a longer period, so get out and don`t be wierd about it.

Agreed! But, I keep thinking of all the people 'stuck' living there in Kyiv. Relatively speaking, they are far safer and protected than in the war zones. Diplomats, consulates, corporations, reporters have all stayed or come back after the initial attacks. Which, means it's 'safe'. He's far better off there than say he would be in Haiti, Israel or other very active conflict zones.

I'm glad to see you back in Ukraine. If you decide to stay, maybe it would be good to find an apartment. It's a little weird to own multiple homes and have to rent your own residence, but it happens more than people think. When people are world travelers, timing isn't always going to work out. I don't know what rents are going for there. Hopefully, you can find a nice place that is less than what you're receiving for rent now. As far as the food, I wish there was a restaurant near me that served that wonderful borscht . I love borscht and that version looks especially delicious.

Suggestion for the seat orientation issue- if there's a display picture of the seats on the train when purchasing tickets, count from the walls. Looks like all seats against the walls face the middle of the carriage. Just count every other seat inward from the walls for same orientation on cars with alternating seats like these that are facing tables. Happy voyages!!

Putin having a hissy fit because the majority in Ukraine preferred to be part of Europe despite all his infiltrating and financing of any pro Russians into positions of power at any level.. and fomenting clashes with the Ukrainian military.
That's what he does...look at Hungary.. infiltrate..
But it failed in Ukraine. The people knew what he was up to he so then he acts like Donald Trump when he doesn't get his own way. does whatever he wants at whatever cost to anyone else including Russians. Seems Russians are expendable to him.
So he invaded Ukraine attempting to oust the government, take over Kiev, annex the country and install a stooge government like his own...and made up of mostly Russians from Moscow..
No other country fired a shot at Russia...never mind a missile... no one was threatening Russia..
He just assumed the Russian military was the greatest and not the totally corrupt incompetent force that it really was and we all saw...and that it would defeat the Ukrainians in a few weeks.
Two years later now ...and He can turn his weapons and his troops around and go back across the border home into Russia anytime he wants and end his invasion. No one will follow them .. no one wants to follow them.

It's pointless. Rent prices skyrocketed in small towns, because of people coming from frontline regions. Now some Kyiv outskirts like Troyeshchina or Borshagovka are equal to Vinnytsia or Zhytomyr pricewise. Moving out of Kyiv just makes no sense unless Johnny wants to explore other cities. Some people in the comments section say they pay $250 for a nice apartment on Arsenalna which is not too far from where Johnny lives. $120 is the cheapest deal I saw yesterday. There were like 10 or 12 offers for that price on OLX.

If she holds a diplomatic passport, she can't be evicted. Furthermore, if she decides not to pay her rent as well, there is nothing that you can do to enforce the rental agreement. She enjoys total diplomatic immunity because she is ex-territorial. Never rent a place to diplomats. That said, she might be a nice person with no sinister intensions whatsoever.

She's probably a diplomat from the UK no doubt, getting paid with UK citizens tax dollars. Robbing UK citizens of their tax dollars just to pay people to prolong the war in Ukraine should be criminal.

1600 it’s an insane amount of money for UKR and more than decent for a diplomatic city like Brussels. So you got a very good deal. Chances are she is not paying herself but her employer is paint the rent, so no issues here. A diplomat from a decent country will always pay and pay on time, it’s not about the legal consequences but administrative ones from the embassy, ethics are usually required and enforced

Going back to the apartment you let is like going back to an apartment you sold. I rented an apartment in Budapest, if the owner said I wanted to stay, I would tell him or her to do one or let me off the rent for that month and pay all the bills. I own an apartment in the UK and I did not let it out just incase I had to go back to the UK for a situation that did happen plus the war in Ukraine changed my direction in life. If I had let the apartment in the UK, I would technically of been homeless until the contract ended with the tenant and would also have to rent or stay in a hotel. I would never impose my self on my tenant, that is so wrong!

Johnny, like you I'm also fortunate enough to own two properties (one of which I rent out) but mine aren't located in an active warzone. I know you love Ukraine but my sincere advice to you would be to put both of your apartments on the market (or even offer them for sale to displaced Ukrainian families at a discount), get your money out of UA and reassess your living arrangements. Whatever you decide to do I hope it works out for the best and please keep making your 5* content here on RUclips.
