As soon as I beat the campaign with my sorc, I did a few tree of whispers, a nightmare dungeon, and was immediately bored with the endgame. People rush thru the campaign for the endgame, when the campaign was the best part of the game.

First Diablo I've played, and played them all, where I didn't finish the story or do multi builds, it's just...not unique enough. It's too safe.
I'm playing Street Fighter 6 instead and then first Street Fighter in 30 years for me.

100%. I played every Diablo game. Each for months on end.
This...I literally gave up because of boredom and lack of those...dopamine hits you usually get in ARPGs.
I think from reaching level 50ish I did not find a single item that I could replace in my gear. I am level 66.
The stats seem meaningless because there are just too many affixes to choose from:
      - dmg to injured
      -dmg to stunned
      -dmg to poisoned
      -dmg to slowed
      -dmg to crowed controlled
      -dmg to distant
      -dmg to close
      -dmg to vulnerable
      WTF????
And it feels like each stat can roll on any item...which makes finding the right configuration....nearly impossible.
Chance of finding good piece of gear with affixes that you want seems impossible and most importantly makes that next piece of gear you chase too far away.
Good ARPG dangles that carrot right in front of you. Next boss, next mob, next dungeon. But when you get nothing for 10 levels (which by the way go real slow after level 50)...it just becomes, a boring, repetitive grind.
It's crazy how Blizzard have not learned anything from D3.
I'm sure they will fix and rebalance a lot of those issues in the next 6 months or so. But for now...meh.

Honestly, it's not even better than D3 (and I'm not a D3 fanboy - I'm in my 30s, I grew up on D1 and D2). So no, not as good as D2 in any sense, unless the grimdark vibe from earlier games was *really* your jam (which it admittedly nails).
The story somehow feels like it has lower stakes than D3, despite it being the apocalypse. And I say that as someone who read and loved the shit out of the Sin Wars series that established all this lore in the first place. I've been waiting to see Lilith for nearly 20 goddamn years, and I was still underwhelmed.

D3 had better flow, in D4 you have lots of downtime (empty areas, long stretches of running around). Some of the systems feel a bit convoluted, yet undercooked which is just weird. The tone of D4 is on point, though. Itemization needs a bit of work. Endgame is shallow - as expected.
Overall, D4 is good, but not great. Imho, it has no real identity when it comes to its gameplay mechanics. It kinda feels half baked.

Scaling is a huge problem. Easy solution: Chunk the game into more tiers. I think tiers are fun because you feel like you are taking on harder and harder challenges for better and better rewards. Just make a new tier every 15-20 levels. Mobs won't scale anymore until you manually advance the tier. Then you get much better drops to make that tier easier, rinse and repeat. My favorite part of Diablo IV was moving into Nightmare and starting to see "sacred" drops and uniques. If they pulled that trick six or seven more times, I'd be satisfied.

Man, Diablo 4 was a disappointment. It's not a bad game, but it's nothing like Diablo 2 and those older releases, it's "okay" but nothing special IMO. I remember when EVERYONE was lining up to get a game, *everyone* talked about it and played it. The only releases I've seen like that have all been indie games, Terraria, Minecraft, those "you HAVE to play it" types. I guess on one hand with all these options stuff is just that much less special, especially when a couple random dudes can crank out a game that far outsells and shames most AAA releases. I'm just not impressed when a company gobbles up tens of millions of dollars and makes an alright game, that's like the minimum expectation. With how much money and resources go into gaming now, we should be having monthly 10/10 releases, but unfortunately more investments can't buy proper management or vision.

More than half a video: complaining and how D2, D3 and PoE does it better.
End Score "yee, 8 or 9/10 for hardcores"....
Dude, that's some IGN-level of scoring that doesn't allign at all with what you are saying. You didn't sound at all like you review a game that gave you good time for 8 or 9 out of 10. I don't know if it's buyer remorse/fanboism or what, but I don't know who would have thought of that score after watching your whole video.
Anyway. For me D4 is a husk, a boring visually high quality game that desperately trying to get back magic of D1 and D2 but all the people who made those games are gone. Game doesn't know what it want to be, D:Immoral, D2, D3, PoE, WoW, open world, MMO, live service, single player? This game has no identity and it's shown in design, recycled content, boring as hell bosses, overloaded with fetch quests Ubi-style boring empty open world, forced online only and artifical grind to cover the fact that... it's just boring. Is combat an improvement over D3 and D2? Yeah.. but is it big enough improvement to carve it's own way/uniquness? Hell no. High quality cutscenes? Ye, cool, but I don't watch a movie, I prefer to game good gameplay over cutscenes. Besides story is generic as hell anyway. Turd cover in gold is still turd.
But what can you expect from company that is Blizzard only by name. People who made old Blizzard games are long gone. Rest just picks scraps and try to stich something that will hold long enough.

    Payday
    and skepticism.
Now, the first of these problems will be resolved in a few days but that second one...
I mean i hear a lot of good stuff from all over the place but that changed after the same people reached the "endgame" of D4.
Level scaling is for me a game devs politician approach to solve a problem they created in the first place. It is a compromise that makes no one happy at the end and yet i can't think of a better solution for this kind of game.
And grinding is something i despise with all my heart. Having a fun gameplay loop isn't a grind in my book but how you described the Tier system in D4? No thank you Blizzard.
My cousin and i made a mini LAN back in the day when D3 came out and rushed through the story together, had fun together and then i was done with D3.
The only Diablo game that kept me actually hooked was D1 of all games. I came back to D2 a couple of times in my life but D1 had that special something for me as a kid.
But the always online thing + the approach to endgame in D4 turns me off hard.
Also that the strongest Necro build seems to be an emo sorc is just sad. One day we'll get a proper necromancy game but i guess this isn't the one.

So i gave the company a second chance, they will not get another. This company is a zombie walking, and no shade to anyone who genuinely enjoys their games, i just hope your honest with yourself when you talk about them being good or not. Right from the start, I was hit with so many flags, from the WoWification of graphics, to the horrendous voice acting starting from the first guy you ever talk to, the story that never stops getting in your way so you can just repeat a section in peace, to the story itself being so Saturday Morning Cartoon trope that even other Saturday morning cartoons wouldn't want it around, to the atrocious loot and statting system where the only thing worth getting was "number go up", to the piss poor synergy and shallow pool that skills were at every turn I tried to make towards something fun, to the depressing balance of the game. Bought it at launch, played over two months tops never went back. I've heard it at least improved over the years, but I have zero desire to even bother finding out. I instead put in a bit over 1,100 hours in PoE over the years (and could write a long winded video essay on my problems with that game, too), have satisfied myself with Grim Dawn as well as it's D2 total conversion mod, am enjoying Last Epoch, and been looking forward to PoE2.
And now, we have Diablo 4, revealing itself to the world after such gems as Diablo: Immortal, now OverWatch 2 being cancelled, and who could forget Warcraft 3: Refunded in all the time leading up to it since D3. I see its game play, I hear peoples' complaints, I hear about its problems, bear witness to its cash shop on top of its already pricey cost of admission, and I am left here thinking just what PoE2 could become (or even a proper second game from GGG) with Blizzard money, or what Last Epoch could become, or what we could get from any other sufficiently talented group of passionate gamers who lived through highschool on Diablo 1 and 2 that were given the creative freedom necessary to come up with something new and innovative.

Why have levels if everything scales? Just ditch levels and present more options. Consider the following: would you rather have a skill which grants you a 10% buff to melee damage OR a skill that let's you convert your melee physical damage to one element of your choice? One option is static but powerful as its a straight power boost but the OTHER is diverse and gives you something to think about. It gives you options that you would choose based on both your build and the enemies you are fighting.
We all hate those bonuses on a skill tree that grant a 3% bonus to shield bash damage but only when you crouch or some nonsense because that's filler but really in a level scaled game, ALL power increases are filler!

I want to love the game, I really do, but I just can't. It does a lot of things right, but pretty much immediately craps all over them by being always online (and thus having the mountain of downsides that comes with that), and by sheer virtue of Diablo 2 LOD having done more things better. Like, all of these people are offering what basically amount to convoluted solutions to the game's various problems/shortcomings, but in all reality the only answer to all these things is legitimately "D2 is the solution. Just copy D2 more". I feel like at this point Blizzard is just doing this to themselves on purpose because they don't want to acknowledge that a bunch of devs from decades ago somehow got it right out of the box, so they mask this inadequacy by piling on multiplayer aspects, seasons, and the like.
I mean, hell, I'd let almost every single issue I have with this game slide if I could just mod the thing like D2, but, NOPE, you guessed it, being always-online stops that. Boy, glad that I, as a consumer, have gained so much from forced always-online D4! And I'd just like to say this is coming from someone who played D2 for the first time AFTER playing D3, so there's no rose-tinted glasses here.

I never dreamed the hate people had for D3 would lead us to the level that would transform the Diablo franchise into an MMO with an ARPG skinned stretched across it's face. The gameplay is so slow and resource management continues to be a slog. I never had that one moment where I honestly felt I was more powerful. My buddy kept grinding up until mid 80s I believe and he had to stop. We both consistently hit mid 90s to level 100 in each POE league every reset. They have to let up on the resource management, our at least give viable options to maintain the core loop ability of each different build.

Always online, mmo group content focus, cash shop, level scaling, the same bossee over and over, season pass, and supporting the snakes at Blizzard by giving them 60$+ for what should be a free game with all the monetization.

LOL it's open world.. you can see a maximum of about 150 ft in all directions.. open world though.. no you can't move the camera.. I don't care how much your neck hurts from seeming like you're staring down at a table for hours on end you will look down at the exact angle in perpetuity.. you will not control this camera in this fully 3D world.. this open 3D world mind you...

"You can respec at any time" In other words the game has no real character building just like D3. Understood. Will avoid this shit like the plague.

Love the how you unobjectively disregard the story, because you probably didn't even have an valid argument to discredit it. Atleast you don't try to make bad takes to justify it.

Why does this feel like a heroin addict explaining the merits of how the new stepped on product, has positives and negatives compared to the old stepped on product.. and how the actual purity and quality is not increased, but there are benefits to the new mix and it's still heroines so.. like it's good.. but back in the day..
