Hey guys hope you enjoyed the vid. Just wanted to let ya'll know I stream on Twitch every weekday at www.twitch.tv/robarkae for anyone interested. Regardless, thanks for watching!
Dude. I absolutely LOVED this video man. Warcraft 2 was the first computer game I ever played. So I was just super into it, and also it took me a long time to figure out how to do anything in it. But soon enough I had the gist of it, and in my eyes humans = good, orcs = bad. So imagine my shock when this mission starts off with this orange human peasants killing OTHER human peasants, which I had to kill? Or when orange human (well... technically Elven but that's just an oversight) destroyers are fighting on the side of the Orcs?! Then later (this might have been in the Orc campaign actually), a damn Alterac dagger is found in the body of a human as the Orcs are saccing city after city, and they're hunting for the book of Medivh. These damn weak minded cowards. And hardly anyone seems to really remember or care about these events anymore! You absolutely nailed it here. Nailed the lore, visuals were top notch. I got a chills a little bit since it's awesome to see someone who knows their shit educate these noobs on their history :p. My only critique would be that I enjoyed the presentation style towards the beginning, but as we're building up towards the climax the modern slang lost a bit of its charm. It was still decent, but that'd be my one criticism of the video. (Edit: Specifically, it's at 7:27-7:50. You're discussing THE specific moment Aiden Perenold betrayed the Alliance. Don't get me wrong, it's funny, but it sort of undermines what would otherwise be a pretty weighty moment. Other than that though I love the style). I hope you do more of these! I think there's a bit of an untapped market for them since I think the only other dude who makes Lore videos is that European dude who's super knowledgeable and all, but the accent can be a tiny bit annoying if one isn't used to it. (Which, yes, shame on me and my uncultured ears I guess.) Also, I only just noticed that the Syndicate face coverings are Orange. That's badass. Orange is the colour of Alterac in much the same way that green is the colour of Kul Tiras or purple is the colour of Dalaran Great video. You just got one more subscriber :)
Tyvm Eric, real glad you enjoyed it. Ill keep your critique in mind going forward as well. To your point about the earlier lore, part of what makes vanilla so engaging is all this underlying stuff that isnt even overtly addressed. Makes the world feel more alive and authentic that way. Like how many ppl even know what the statue of Lothar near blackrock mountain is even in reference too? But the best part is they dont have to know, all that sort of stuff still adds to the experience regardless. It makes the whole world worth engaging with in the first place. I think a sign of a poor universe/setting is one that feels like it has to explain everything to validate itself. Vanilla doesnt feel compelled to really tell you anything, its all there in the background. And if you get around to learning about it its quite cool, like Alterac, and nearly all early pre MMO WoW lore.
@@Arkae Totally man, the first time I came across that statue it was amazing. Same with the statues of the alliance expedition on the way into Stormwind (I imagine most people know what that's about these days after Legion and TBC?). Agreed, that's what I love about Vanilla WoW lore (as opposed to TBC lore... ugh.) It reminds me of Diablo 2 where theres this INCREDIBLE backstory that you're only barely aware of, especially in act 2 and 3, but you don't need to know any of it at first, but on repeated playthroughs of the game you slowly become more and more aware of the Diablo universe. Same with Vanilla WoW, you don't necessarily need to know anything about the world to enjoy it, but the more you learn the more immersed you become.
I noticed a good amount of mistakes there and there, for example, the Kingdoms were not made by people who went away from Arathor, they were made by the tribes which already lived there and broke away from Stormguard/Arathor, therefore the city of Stormguard was also named Stromguard long before the empire of Arathor collapsed. Another mistake is, Orgrim Doomhammer did not lead the horde in the 1st war, it was Blackhand who did, Orgrim led it during the 2nd war, but overall you confuse first and 2nd war a lot. As for all you say about Alterac betraying the Alliance, you solly focus on saying how Alterac was bad to do it, and not on how the Alliance badly treated them most of the time which led to them losing faith in the frist place. As for my thoughts on Alterac, i think this Kingdom should be rebuilt in wow and the alteracci humans should be an allied race for the horde, they are so interesting.
Completely agree with you here. Alterac's betrayal isnt focused on how badly they were alienated from the Alliance at the discussion table by Stromgarde by alot of people. Orgrim Doomhammer treated Alterac with so much more kindness and honor than the other Alliance members. Its no wonder why Alterac betrayed the Alliance and i sympathize with them. My Human Paladin wears an orange martial shirt to represent Alterac and RPs as a paladin from Alterac who was raised in Stormwind since the end of the 2nd War. Alterac is so under-appreciated in Warcraft lore.
@@LagunaShirogane Oh, you send me this message when i was actually browsing on the trading post and saw that there was cool orange cape and hoods that really would go well with an Alteraci! I really find the Kingdom of Alterac to be very interesting, really if Blizzard wanted to make a Games of Thron style story Alterac would be perfect, if you have read the novel Day of the Dragon thats how good it get! I hope that one day we would play as alterac humans maybe even humans in the Horde! That would be sick.

They just don't care about the still Human kingdoms that aren't Stormwind (obvious enough) and Kul'tiras (ties to Jaina) and Dalaran. Alterac also shows that the Humans v. Orcs history really isn't just the fantasy racewar they desperately try to portray it as.
Sorry to tell you im actually deleting the channel. Jk lol. Heads up though, probably not doing any purely lore videos for a bit. I need to experiment with other kinds of videos that might be more efficient for growth atm, from a time investment standpoint.

Nice vid! Pretty interesting story. Wish I knew more of the WoW lore
Ty ember, ill be making plenty more lore focused videos. Typically more niche stuff as every big event/character has been covered 100x over.

Well you can also argue humanity woukd've survive with Alterac. ;)
The Horde in WC1-WC2 era lore wasn't trying to destroy Humanity. Rather make their new world order with the Orcs and their allies ruling.
foe the Horde
I laugh at the casual swearing 😂 A lot of wow historians try to sound professional
Lol glad you liked dude. Some people were put off by that apparently. At the end of the day this is just a game.
I usually like warcraft lore but this talk sounded too ghetto for my taste
Thats fine, theres plenty of videos of monotone ppl reading lore like its from a textbook that im sure youll love.
You say words weird.
okay.
