    When you are honing run the drill a lot slower and go faster on the in an out motion so you get a cross hatch pattern.
    For lubricant you can use a thin Auto Trans Fluid and Kerosene 50/50 mix that will clear the pores better as you hone and run more freely.

    Tips from Powerseal Holland ;), use a longer hone mandrel, it should be 1,5 times the length of the cylinder bore, else it could become like a banana or rainbow, and the piston wont fit, also use diamond honing stones, 600 grit for finishing, and make sure the crosshatch is at 45 degrees., Hope it helps you! Keep up the good work!

    I was the engineer in charge of super finishing posh way of describing honing at nsk bearings in the honing process the stones surface are opened by the parts roughness this will make the stone break down and cut more material as the stone begins to load the surface of the stone closes material removal stops and polishing begins to achieve best results the stone runs a low speed both in terms of rpm and oscillation then fast for the final polishing all the time having oil flow over this cools the stone to prevent cracking we used to bed the stones in to ensure full contact between the part and the stone
    Total material removal was small around 5 microns if you’re getting high removal values then the stone is cutting to much and not closing up you would need a softer stone
    Honing can be a bit of a black art in terms of choice of stone and speeds and pressure applied to the stone a change in one can affect the others it all depends on what is the required surface finish

Or at least didn't make it past the first sentence, that is if it even had sentences, as it's the longest, non-sensical sounding run-on sentence I've ever seen in 15 years on youtube. I bet even you, the author, would struggle to make sense of it now LOL. I even copy/pasted it to Wordpad and tried to punctuate it LOL, but apparently there's more errors than just having no meaningful format.

    Ok just throwin it out there. I have built a few small 4stroke engines and only a couple of old Victa 2strokes and a few hot chainsaws. I have never noticed any difference between a X pattern and a horizontal pattern in the honeing but I have found that in any engine I have ever built (and then run for years including hot chainsaws ie 2stroke that work very hard for their life) that too much fuss over the hone and your just wasting time. You are on the right track and doing more than anyone I have ever seen to build a totally different engine than what can be bought at Bunnings if your an Aussie (home depot for the yanks). Keep it up...... I can't wait to see how well this thing does on the dyno. Thanks again for the inspiration and I hope it does what you want it to do. Very good work. Please keep the videos coming. I genuinely await each upload with hopes of seeing it go........ Seriously can't wait. This really could be a game changer.

    I worked alot on my Kawa 750 H2 (40 years ago) and found out that the piston ring clipped into the channels a bit when the channel becomes wide; now your exhaust channel is much wider than mine back then, hopefully you do not run into similar problems and the Nikasil will not chip off .

    You can get a really nice cross hatch and surface finish with a "flex-hone" if it is available in your bore size. These hones use abrasive balls on the ends of flexible brushes so the actual honing pressure is very light and even. They tend to preserve the as-machined shape of your bore while just improving the finish and cross hatching with minimal material removal. we use them to hone the bores of hydraulic cylinders, although they were initially designed for motorcycle engines I think. It will have a much lower material removal rate than the multi-stone hone you are using... may be more forgiving.

  • @minor0confusion
    @minor0confusion 5 лет назад

    any hone or ajustable reamer i have gets a hard ass grind/cut on something old/past usable to really bed in. as your friend said (as i was typing lol) the stones will loose lots of material on the edges befor setteling to match the radius, once matched, it will hold its shape and be less chattery (its basicly unable to be fully wound tight untill the edges are gone, the tool is loose, it bounces) continually taking my hat off to you for this tho!!! 100% backyard and winning! top marks

    One idea from me is to hone the zylinder bevor you are coating it too.
    I guess you get the nicasil better to hold on the surface after honing and the zylinder is more round after the honing.
    So when you hone after coating the zylinder, you only have to hone very short time to get all the surfice nicely with the little scratches.
    That will keep your nicasil more thick.
    In my opinion you honed a too long in this video
    My experiande is to go trough just 5 or 10 seconds mabee in 2 or 3 steps...
    I normaly goes really fast.
    Greets from enduro riding.
    Love your channel and work.
    You are very kind.
    Good luck with the final zylinder

    • @2STROKESTUFFING
      @2STROKESTUFFING  5 лет назад

      Thanks! A slightly rough surface (blasted is good) will help with getting the BN particles to stick better - higher density of BN in the coating.
      I'll experiment more with the honing, as I'm not shooting for an exact size I'll hone the actual cylinder just the necessary amount for a good finish/straight bore.

      @@2STROKESTUFFING welcome
      on the enduro i ride they say you can use one zylinder for ca. 3 times honing and bigger piston kits (A B C size) after you have to go for new zylinder because the nicasil is very thin.
      One guy from a special engine service and prepairing company onece recommended me for nicasil zylinders a honing brush ( picture in the folowing link)
      In my opinion these are good for the honing after your first pisten is blasted out.
      It also rounds the sharp edges from the flow holes slightly wich you sometimes have to go over by hand to take away the sharp edges.
      Give youbthe picture maybee you can decide on your own if this is good.
      Anwnser me what younthink about in my case ind enduro and in your case with your new zylinder.

    I trust that in your studies of plating, to ensure the best possible plating, it is important to surface finish the plated areas every time you dip it to ensure maximum surface finish and uniformity of depth.
    Otherwise you can end up with a clumpy chunky lopsided mess and waste a lot of plating material.

    That's a neat little hone, thanks for posting link. You would be way better off (in my experience) thinning the cutting oil way down with either kerosene (or diesel) or get proper high sulphur honing oil. When honing, use about 90rpm and 'stroke' in /out a bit faster to get a 45degree cross hatch (I used to teach this stuff) Most rigid hones are capable of running to 450 rpm but it's really difficult to match stroke to rpm at higher speeds. I've been meaning to do a cylinder honing vid for several years, since I did an 'Instructable' on correct way to measure a motorcycle cylinder

    I would be checking that honing with a bore micrometer for roundness and parallel walls before committing to using that hone tool.
    Just to be sure.

    I would move up and down faster when honing? I try to get more vertical croshatches when i hone (but maybe you're aware of this or have your reasons for doing it this way idk)

    Hvilken type sigarer foretrekker du?
    Jeg må holde fast på den billige
    Cucaracha Perla Natural når jeg røyker flere om dagen.

      Blir sjelden feil med en CAO Flathead Camshaft - ikke så dyre heller(men litt flaut navn...)

    When are you going to do a motorized bicycle video ?

  • @janhugo
    @janhugo 5 лет назад +1

    Nei! Må ikke slutte nu!
    Følger med spent på hver episode hva nytt jeg kan lære!
    Jeg driver og roter med elektronikk, Arduino og snekring/møbelsnekring.
    Snekringen har jeg lært her på RUclips... Resten har jeg utdannelse selv fra.
    Jeg bor selv på Blaker, Akershus, og bare lurer på i hvilket området du bor i?
    Har selv en moped, litt gammel da, en 1985 modell Honda VF1000R, og har begynt med litt restaurering, videoene dine er en inspirasjon, fortsett med dem!
    Har du Vipps?
    Mvh

    I've been watching a lot of your country before. You are very skillful and brave. I would like to ask you what do you do for a 2t reed engine with a bore of 47.55mm and a stroke of 45mm? You know all this at 17600rpm. thanks

    Spännande! En fråga, jag har själv en cylinder (inte som din) men med en jäkla bred avgasport, jag har funderat en del om den kommer skapa problem för kolvringen, men din är MYCKET bredare. Fungerar det att köra sådär bred port?

    Another nice one 👍 🤞🤞that it's not going to self-destruct 🙏. Would you cast another one or two? Seems like an awful lot of work, also for your friends 😉

      Thanks! I'm going to cast more of this design, hoping to improve the quality/reduce porosity. Also going to cast other ideas in the future.
