I’ve heard the V20 has some features where it can taper, maybe fade a bit when ninjas are nearby. Helps when going low speed when hauling massive trains (please help me)
As a fellow Minnesotan i love this. i live in along the trail bit of this line and there was talk of rail being laid again years ago but they thought up the green line in the cities and the project was scraped for the green.
pretty much! I think it was going to be called the Rush line or something like that, but it's been cut back more and more over the years and now it's just going to be a BRT route from St Paul into White bear lake (The Purple Line!) But even now that's not looking like it'll happen anytime soon, since Maplewood withdrew support for the project.
@@crazyash1999 dang i was looking forward to trains rolling through again and #328 used to frequent the line so it would have been fun to see her back on home rails for a trip or two.
Yes, short line railroading is awesome, I work for one around here the southern railway of British Columbia has some great power. Where else do you get to see MP15DCs or SD38s. I don’t catch them nearly enough
Great horn. Should you film them again, perhaps some drone footage of their interchange in Hinkley, the yard layout in Rush City and the trackwork in North Branch - I find it of interest and it would be fun to model SCVRR as an model railroad layout.
It’s good that we got documentation on the short line while it’s around because I’d bet a good 50 bucks this line isn’t around in the next 10 years as you said they only have one customer most of their other customers have been cutting tieswith the St. Croix Valley over the past few years and I’m afraid they’re gonna end up like the old Brook Park And Moria Railroad that used to use the line that went from well Brook Park to Moria but was abandoned in the early 2000s because they lost all their customers
They have two customers. There is a big propane tank farm in Rush City and a chemical plant in Harris. Also the Andersen Windows plant bought the old frac sand plant and plan on shipping by rail. Haven't heard when yet. I have lots of videos of this short line on my channel.
I have this one shortline where they have some of the craziest horns they have. Some have S2Ms, some have RS3Ls, 1 has a P3, and one has an old cast P5. This shortline is pretty cool, as it runs at around 50 MPH max because of track upgrades provided by Sound Transit. Their crew are pretty nice as well, as they usually wave at anyone filming trains. The shortline used to have SD70ACes, but they threw them to Arkansas 2 years ago. They also had many classic diesels, including GP20s, SD40s (with and without the -2 configuration) and more. Their remaining fleet of older locomotives consist of EMD GP40Ms from New York Central, which were built in 1965, a large hand of MP15s from the 1980s, and two ex-CNW GP38-2s from the late 1970s. Their rebuilt locomotives include a pair of MP15s rebuilt in 2021, a pair of GP22ECOs in 2011, which were rebuilt from GP40s, and one GP23ECO which was rebuilt from a GP40 in 2016. A pretty interesting fleet. The shortline has 3 divisions, well, 2 now. One of them is the Tidelands division, which is where they keep the remaining locomotives working every day. Another division is the Lakewood division, which stretches all the way out to DuPont, where they interchange railcars with BNSF. They usually send in a pair of matching locomotives to do the job every Monday and Thursday. Mondays are for northbounds (switches up railcars at around 8-9 AM, leaves to head north at 11, after 2 Amtrak trains pass.), Thursdays are for southbound drop-offs. The third division, which is now abandoned, was one of the last segments for The Milwaukee Road's Pacific Coast Extension. It had a steep hill grade of 3.75% over the Puyallup River, which still has the original trestle maintained since the 1910s. Multiple railroads, including the shortline itself, has stalled on the hill. It also had rare equipment, including Safetran hybrid bells and RSI bells. It's very unlikely if this line will ever be revived. That's my local shortline.
RARE: 3AM ET Upload But yes, it can be incredibly fun to learn about and railfan lesser known shortlines, especially ones with awesome power, views and horns like this one.
Class IIIs hit different. In a really good way. The palmetto up my neck of the woods has GP18s, 20s, SW1001s... All in immaculate shape. Ive yet to see a proper movement of them though, since i dont know their running times
The only run at 10mph now? That's a real shame, a few decades ago I swear they ran at 20 or 30mph. Sucks to see that the track quality is getting that bad. Love the vid, always nice to see my old hometown and local short line.
I've gone by SCXY track so many times and have yet to see anything move. I was beginning to think it was some kind of 'moves only if not observed' thing
There are no freight branch lines in my area that are more than 1km long (short spurs to serve 1 industry) but some of our lines are very scenic and see electric suburban trains (some still have trestles). The few long branches are 500+ km away and I can't drive so I'm screwed
The only problem with class 3s is that there’s fewer trains. If you Railfan any major class one mainline you’re guaranteed to see at least one train. With a class 3 you have to know when the train is departing something kinda hard of newbie’s
My local has 4 GP38-3s and 2 GP40-2s. the GP40-2s have a nice canadian K3l, and the GP38-3s have the same broken rs5t, and got am I "mad" about that. Like bro i wanna hear horn but ok
By the third time they passed you, the crew must have started a bet over how many times they would see you.
Nice amount of likes. (69)

Glad you were able to get these guys! Thanks for the shoutout too.
So cool for you to tip him on the move SD, you’re the best!
Thank you for the help! No problem
I used to know the schedule back when they were busy. It really hurts to see how slow they are now.

The V20 in the SD45s RAAAAAAH
V16's in the Saint Croix SD's

the small ones still have great personality 😊
Yes.
Dude💀💀💀💀 i can confirm tho
small ones > big ones ngl
Small railroads are fun and easier to chase. I enjoy watching them do switching operations
Northern Pacific scheme, RS5T's, old EMD's. What a paradise!
Man, that RS5T is one hell of a horn! Awesome catch and chase!!
I have tons of footage of this railroad on my channel.
AMAZING RS5T
I love the smaller railroads and local operations. This "last mile" is where the real railroad work is done. LOVE THE HORN TOO!

Love how everyone's highballing through around 2 to 4 am 😂
I'm always fascinated with shortlines. But the one I'm most fascinated about was the Hartwell railroad in Southern Georgea.
That RS5T 🔥🔥🔥
My local railroad “WSOR” has only sd40s and Gp38 and boy do I love it
Hey, that used to be mine, too!
@ wsor is a cool railroad
TC&W for the win here!

Heck yeah I'll keep this little line in mind since I live in duluth.
That's awsome I go up there alot and I rec them! They are a very friendly crew of guys!

indeed
