    🔷 ABOUT US 🔷
We're a DIY family building our "forever homestead" from 15 acres of raw undeveloped land in Tennessee. All of our content is family friendly and safe for everyone to enjoy.
In today's video we continue building our new 12 x 10 free standing deck on the back of our 1988 Palm Harbor Single Wide Mobile Home. Today we show how to build deck stairs -- completely from start to finish. We begin by building concrete forms, and mixing and pouring our own concrete stair landing pad. We then frame up our stairs with store bought stringers and other materials to build a strong, sturdy, and code-compliant set of deck stairs for our home. Let's go!

OMG! I’m in the middle of laying a concrete block foundation and digging a French drain. I dislocated my SI joint and I’ve been flat of my back all day. All I could think about was a video from Sam and Angela or Doug and Ashley would get me through this!! Ahhhh. Relief. Thanks guys.

I'm proud of all 4 of you. How far you've all come. How much you've learned. How you, Sam, are willing to learn from mistakes. You, Angela, for not being afraid as a woman to jump in and work hard and be someone little girls and women alike can look up to. And to the glorious feral children for being willing to learn from your Mom and Dad and also brave enough to try new things. I'm proud of you all. ❤️ I'm so glad you guys started this channel. Keep it up! High five! And a hug!

Sam, if I may, I would use a 1/4" or 1/2" router bit on the handrails to get rid of splinters accidents, most people use the 1/4" bits but I love the 1/2" more, just my taste on it,, Later

Just a little concerned about the slab sticking out down by the first step. If you have your hands full and are looking at the first step, you may trip on the slab sticking out, but not sticking out far enough to be a step. Make sense?

Hi Sam and Angela, this back deck is so awesome, I really love how it turned out and I agree those handrails are so beautiful, it really does make it look so complete. That back deck is so large and really great to hang out on, I wish that I had someone that could build me an awesome deck like this. My son and his dad have a covered deck that they will be fixing the bottom because the wood is damaged because of the weather getting it wet with the carpet the previous owners put on it, but my ex which is my son's dad is a contractor and really good at building and fixing things. I was so excited to see this video it was so much fun to watch, and I will be looking forward to your next video. I hope you have a great week ahead, sending love and hugs, bye for now. 😂🥰🤗💜💜💞

We did our own sidewalk. Sooooo easy! We used 1 x 2s and basically bent them to our will into a shape all the way to our driveway. It's about 25 feet...maybe a little longer. We put relief boards using lattice wood, in between every 4 feet or so. Then we poured. It's only 2 in thick, but it hasn't cracked. We poured it 6 almost 7 years ago. Way cheaper than paying someone, and it took 2 days to do.

Engineered screws has been an amazing leap forward in deck building! I remember back the the 80s helping my dad build a deck and having to use bolts 🔩 and nails because Engineered screws wasn't a thing back then. Atleast it wasn't for us. Deck looks amazing by the way. You build decks like I do. The only difference is we had our beams going the opposite direction, only because we wanted our deck boards going the opposite way you have yours.

You did an awesome build on that deck! I didn't think about it on the last video, but when Angela was using the spacer jig, I noticed there was no marking on the side of the it to give a reference for the height of the balluster. So if anyone duplicates the jig for their own railing, add a pencil mark on the side to mark the top of the balluster placement. Great ingenuity, Sam!

We used regular joist hangers and 3 pre-made stair stringers. They are really solid and quick to get the stairs up.
And originally we did our handrails like y'alls. But out inspector wouldn't pass them...said a person couldn't "hang onto" them. So we had to go get some uncut ballistors to use as a handrail on the inside.
