  • Bunny is always looking for ways to improve her garden and hone her techniques. In this video she looks at a new Deer Repellent ‘Trico’ for protecting trees which is based on sheep’s fat and is for use in the domestic and commercial market(agrigem.co.uk) , and discusses the way she will deal with box moth next year plus the replacements she is using. New varieties of Persimmon trees (wonderful small trees with colourful bauble like fruit that stay on bare branches over Christmas) which are more suited to our climate are being planted in her garden later, though her Persimmon Kaki has survived well but is proving very slow although it did fruit last year.
Bunny’s coffee habit produces huge volumes of spent grounds so she is trying mixing these with bark to reduce the pH of her highly alkaline soil so her Witch Hazels thrive and her hydrangeas go blue. Will it help? Many clients are asking for verandas - providing the perfect covered outdoor space. They can hugely improve an unprepossessing elevation too. Bunny shows how you can create one for a reasonable cost.
Finally the type of planting in the new Rose Meadow with informal drifts of home propagated perennials is developing and Bunny will add more Rose meadows into her designs, making sure there is a good percentage of evergreen ground cover to maintain winter interest.

I love when you show various areas of your garden Ms. Bunny. It is a mix of formal and not so formal but it is so sophisticated yet fun! Thanks for sharing.

I love the veranda idea using the disguised corrugated plastic and heather roll. I’m going to build some self wicking beds this year as I’ve got fed up with trying to kill off the mares tail I have growing in the flower bed.

I am worried that if I use those pheromones bait traps for the boxwood moths , those traps will attract more moths in my area, including those that go to my neighbours who have more boxwood plants than I do! 🤣I do spray do with BTK each spring and fall. Those moths are also doing major damage here in 🇨🇦. I do appreciate a diverse garden as that also reduces the risk of any one pest attacking everything. I can’t wait until gardening season!

The slugs love coffee grounds on top of the soil. However, when composted the coffee grounds do not create such a problem. So, if you want to make a slug trap, try coffee grounds.

I have been pouring all leftover coffee grounds and coffee diluted with water all around the garden this year. I don’t know if I am really improving anything but hopefully I am. Thinking potentially worms may be attracted to it

You mentioned that the arrival times of Box Moth are shown on the internet; is this an official site you are referring to - or just word of mouth ? I have just noticed the first ever signs of damage on my Box in the past few weeks - which probably occurred last autumn unfortunately. NB . I stopped using Plum Fruit Moth pheromone traps a few years ago, as I had a suspicion I was actually drawing more moths to my garden , as opposed to helping to eradicate the problem. My plums have certainly been no worse since I stopped using them; plus they were becoming very expensive. Thank you.

Oh No, I've been tipping mine on my buxus plants. Sick to death of the caterpillar, so see how they get on 🤣
