Had the great fortune to meet him at a book signing. Says he would make another movie if he got a script he liked. He's not a fan of the cursing and crass humor. He's got a point. He didn't need it and there was no one better!
The anecdote about his mother was heartwarming and refreshingly honest. Amazingly talented, and so down-to-earth and genuine in person... Mr. Wilder, you are a delight, sir. Rest in peace.
Such a shy sweetheart of a man and brilliant actor and comedian. My idol, I'm so proud to share Milwaukee WI as a home town with Mr. Gene Wilder. I live close to his old high school. RIP Mr. Wilder there is one more angel in haven now tears. As fans we will love and miss you forever tell we meet again tears.
Not many people understands nor will try to understand what it means that we are loosing all they great ones. Great individuals as Mr. Wilder, means not only how great he was, is, in what he did but the person inside of the people like this man is gone. It doesn't live inside of today's actors and entertainers. People are famous for no reasons, what so ever and their heads are empty. I'm so glad I had a chance to grow in the times I did, sharing the world with bright, brilliant individuals as him. He was one of the greats, and there's no one like these guys and gals any longer. It's a very sad time to loose people in this world because it feels a little more empty.
I completely agree. I'm a young fan though I'm nearly 30 years old but I do respect actors such as Mr. Wilder there aren't any today nor great singers. It's very frustrating but I'm proud I have better taste then my generation.
Thank you for being respectful at your young age. Just an advise for an old soul as you are seems to be. The songs for "Willy Wonka" were written by two wonderful British songwriters Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse. Anthony Newley was also a great singer in addition, an actor and entertainer. You can find a lot of his creations posted on You Tube. I think you would enjoy this man's talent as well, unless you knew about him already.
Amen I'm blessed to have shared this world with Gene for nearly 30 years. And it's supper cool he was from Milwaukee WI my beautiful city I live close to his old high school. I'm happy he's at peace now.
this is so classy ...no vulgarity or someone using vulgar words or flashing their wealth..only a very talented, well mannered hollywood celebrity who knows how to behave in front of the camera..Lovely guy
Wonderful to see this, thank you for uploading. Terry Wogan could sometimes be quite an awkward interviewer but here you can tell he is trying his best and is genuinely a fan of Wilder, so is trying to coax answers out of his own interest and respect for the man's work. I met Gene Wilder very briefly when he signed his book for me at a book store, and he was so shy and quiet, but still had that gentleness that you see here.
Saw him in Charlie and the Chocolate factory as a kid, I think it was after I started loving the book and Roald Dahl's works, then I saw him again by coincidence because I decided to drop in on some guy streaming a movie I had never heard of: The Producers. Now I just absolutely love him, and the love isn't even clouded by childhood nostalgia. I had forgotten I'd ever seen him before! What a kind, lovely man
Gene Please Come back I miss u so much I keep watching ur movies and interviews U always make me laugh and smile every day You are So Handsome and sweet and humble Luv you ❤❤❤
I've met a few people who've worked with Gene. All of them have commented on what a genuinely gentle, kind and sweet man he is. Skinner must have had it coming.
*sigh* I love this guy. He has such a good heart! And I feel so sad for him, RIP Gilda. And aww... his poor mommy. :`( Gene, your stories always touch me, either in sadness, love, or happiness. Luv ya! ♥
Wogan wasn’t interrupting him like he usually does. I agree with the other comments; Gene Wilder is open and intelligent and funny and interesting. Great interview.
I find it funny he didn't think he had a book in him. You should read them if you never have, they are so touching and a fast read if you have a few hours. I learned much about him from his biography.
Ohhhh Gene Wilder!, I'm a big fan. Do you want to know why I'm a big fan ? Is that what you want to know, why I'm a big fan ? Because if you want to know why i'm a big fan I'll tell you. Are you asking me why i'm a big fan ? Is that what you're asking me ? IS THAT WHAT YOU'RE ASKING ME ? WHY I'M A BIG FAN OF GENE WILDER ? ARE YOU ASKING ME WHY I'M A BIG FAN OF GENE WILDER ?
yes, a good man' someday we all got to go through the transition to a new life.. makes me almost cry to know there are so few heroes in the acting world!
Just realised that Gene Wilder is dead from looking at RUclips. A very sad moment I've had.. Wilder was in numerous classics and was a gifted actor and comedian.
There's hardly anyone in the world who believes what Gilda and Gene said. The reality is that youth, beauty, and WEALTH are what most people are drawn to.
first of all, he looks like eric idle!! i came accross him yeserday through the little prince and i immediately knew he was the best actor in there although i "met" him for the first time.
@nounever Yes and no. Don't know why you'd think of the 70s, but you're right in that it's not in '91. They are talking about "The Woman in Red", which was released in 1984. And in the end Wilder mentions writing on "Haunted Honeymoon", which was released in '86. So, this interview was shot somewhere between '84 and '86.

There is truth in that statement.
I love Gene Wilder, great human being, genuine and sincere.
I find him attractive. :) He is intelligent, a great actor and he really does have such a soothing voice.
Gosh, he's just so lovable.
He's so full of wisdom! Such a charming, gentle man!
i love this guy. he made me understand the power of comedy.
Had the great fortune to meet him at a book signing. Says he would make another movie if he got a script he liked. He's not a fan of the cursing and crass humor. He's got a point. He didn't need it and there was no one better!
Beautiful interview. Too bad these kinds of interviews don't happen anymore.
You can tell Gene and Terry were both enjoying one another’s company. A really nice interview.
The anecdote about his mother was heartwarming and refreshingly honest. Amazingly talented, and so down-to-earth and genuine in person... Mr. Wilder, you are a delight, sir. Rest in peace.
Gene Wilder and Terry Wogan both here, both passed in 2016. So sad.

what a beautiful person
he is ..love his eyes and his genius
A most beautiful individual. Terry tried to be uncouth, once, and Gene ignored it. Gene was sincere, honest and deeply loveable.
"Little boys and grown men are confident of what they do in life because of what their mothers told them they're good at."
I love his nose.
this is so classy ...no vulgarity or someone using vulgar words or flashing their wealth..only a very talented, well mannered hollywood celebrity who knows how to behave in front of the camera..Lovely guy
I worked with Gene Wilder and loved him.

What a kind sweet and honest man he was. This is a sad day. But Gene has wings now. ~Blessings

Just realised that Gene Wilder is dead from looking at RUclips. A very sad moment I've had.. Wilder was in numerous classics and was a gifted actor and comedian.
One more movie Gene! U got fans like me 21 who love ur movies!
In case anyone's wondering he's talking about 'The Woman In Red' (1984) at the start of the interview. He also wrote and directed that film.
His voice is so comforting! But yes I do agree with the interviewer that he has a naturally funny face but still pretty attractive at the same time.
The last vestige of a true comedic actor and a gentlemen!
There's hardly anyone in the world who believes what Gilda and Gene said. The reality is that youth, beauty, and WEALTH are what most people are drawn to.
