OMG this is a heartbreaking interview. I remember them both so well because my parents were huge fans. Such an honest and real interview. I wish people today gave them.
What a heartfelt, genuine interview. Thank you, Gene Wilder. Also, I've sooo enjoyed your work, talent, comedy, and love for many many years. My love to you.
Gilda was one of a kind, her different characters on SNL were hilarious. I know what Gene was saying when Gilda would take out her anger on Gene, what she told him is exactly what I saw so many times and explained to friends and family members of my patients. I am a retired oncology nurse, the patients were so vulnerable, filled with fear and anger and of course all the physical side effects, the pain and nausea, they did not want to take that out on their caregivers, but a spouse, adult child, dear friend they could let it out knowing that person loved them and would always be there for them. How happy I am to have been able to enjoy all the laughs Gilda brought to the world, and how sad she passed too soon.
I think Gene was a product of his generation and knows how to compartmentalize. But what this is is honest, raw and real. Relationships are so complicated. This was one.
The fact is, he moved on. It's good that he got over the loss and found happiness with someone else. If you can do that when a loved one dies, that's a good thing. They wouldn't want you to live on in pain and sadness.
@@jedijones That's not how grief works, especially in the loss of a spouse. I just lost my 29yo wife last year at only 28 under strangely similar circumstances (we were together about six years, the last two of which she was very ill and in constant decline). You don't move on. You can move forward sure, but there is no moving on. That loss is always part of you and it will color every moment going forward. What you make of that is up to each person. I agree that he was able to find happiness with his second wife, and that is a wonderful thing (something I can only hope for someday), but to say that he got over the loss is just not how it works. You won't know until it happens to you, which I pray won't be for a very long time.
Oh ok wow, he just expressed his feelings and words in context..that's often very hard to do regarding talking of how you feel about someone. I always loved Gene wilder, he had/has a warmth about him that I can't describe more than that.
I relate to Gene a lot when it comes to losing a spouse after battling illness for years and only being together a relatively (and unfairly) short amount of time. Watching the documentary that came out this year was really beautiful; it brought me to tears at multiple points. Though I don't think you have to go through losing a spouse for that to be the case. He was a wonderful person.
You made my childhood so happy and full of laughter young Frankenstein blazing Wonka to name the top ones your artwork was wonderful you crafted a character will the audience in mind , I think, and I always loved to tell people about you two and how much someone can be in love not just love Thank you Mr.Wilder and Mrs Ratner for making me smile in happy and sad moments you guys could always bring a smile not just to my face but my heart and mind laughed as well and that's rare you genuine presence is so refreshing unlike other great actors/comedians you always seemed to appreciate the other side of entertainment,,,,the rest of the world thanks for all you did
We met, we got married, did 3 movies, she got sick and died. Not the most memorable way to recount a relationship....but there was some admiration there and definitely sadness. He deserved happiness after that tragedy.
I guess what Gene meant to say is that he didn't expect to go on the roller-coaster ride he did with Gilda. You get married, you live happy ever after. Instead she got ill and died. You can tell that Gene is still visibly shaken by it all.
He wrote a really great memoir and talked about Gilda. He said she was often sad because she wanted a child. Heartbreaking. It’s called, Kiss Me Like A Stranger.
Well, think about hiw many times he's been asked the same thing, over and over. The world knew what they meant to each other. To retell it fir the umpteenth time must get so hard for him. He loved her so much and was so devoted, and he still misses her.
Bruising up in Scotland.. We didn't have SNL, I didn't even know about it. I would see Genr and Gilda etc in the movies. Gilda could make me laugh like no one else at times. She could make something hilarious or of noting but a look. She was brilliant.
Gene Wilder could never tell a lie. He seems pretty blunt here but you know everything he says about Gilda is genuine. And that's the man she fell in love with. Love that apartment story.
You're looking at it all wrong. Cancer doesn't drop from the sky. There is cause and effect in the Universe. It's probably caused by birth control pills as well as hormone replacement therapy for menopause. You're in the Matrix and brainwashed with what the medical mafia tells you to do. Screening isn't the effing point! 🤦♀️ That just justifies poisoning a person with toxic waste like chemo. You can't poison yourself to good health! Alkalinize! Alkalinize! Alkalinize! Cancer cannot survive in an alkaline environment. Fresh fruits and veggies for the win!
Gene Wilder i respect this man so much , the honesty he talks , makes you a better man . thanks for sharin this
She was a brilliant comedienne. The world became a sadder place upon her passing.
And darker.
I'm not crying, you're crying.
Lovely comment
he could see her so clearly....can you see like that...miss you Gene
That why he cheated on her?

Gene was unique. I don't think there will ever be anyone else like him.

He said that not to upset his wife, I’m sure of it!!! He missed her dearly.
It was an unfair question. And besides, of course he missed her!

True love
Two of the sweetest people that brought happiness to us all. RIP

I think gene loved gilda, and its alright to love and miss them still
So beautiful and sad.

awwwe love he called her a fire fly ✨️♥️✨️

Haunted Honeymoon is a forever favorite movie

The very same illness took my mother the same way
OMFG. From 5:41 - 5:47 he literally had asked her the Joan Crawford question from _Mommie Dearest._
Ovarian cancer to me is one of the most scariest cancers.. they still don't have good screening tools and it's so deadly

You can just tell. Nuff said.
Wow!!!
🍀Precious time 👀✌️
Soul mates, but for a short time.
4:50 good question
Gene I feel for you.
There is no logical reason for this, but "The ducks are in the water." reminds me of "Put the candle back."
Definitely need to resurface Gilda Radners work.
He was hilarious as the waco kid in blazing saddles.
Kiss me like a stranger from gilda to her husband was kiss me one no more time passionately
Why is willy wonka making me cry at 9:37am
THe ducks are in the water? She couldn't give him her phone number?
